  • www.YouKnowIGotSoul.com It almost seems inevitable that once a group disbands and each of the members try to find success going in their own direction, they soon fade from the public interest. In the case of Jean Baylor, who pretty much did fade from the public eye for over 7 years, she's equipped with the triple threat of talents that's allowed her to remain relevant; she can write, she can play piano, and she has one of the most amazing voices of her generation. After taking some time to re-evaluate life and reinvent herself, this former half of platinum group Zhane is back to doing what she was put here to do; sing. In this interview with YouKnowIGotSoul, she talks about her solo debut "Testimony: My Life Story," how her sound as a solo artist compares to that of the Zhane, her decision to leave the group and create music on her own, her collaboration with Will Smith early in her career, whether she thought the classic "Hey Mr. DJ" would indeed become big, and much more.

I love love love Zhane. I wish they'd reunite. I'd go to their concert. I'm a south African fan. I bought their first album twice. My cousin stole it and movers stole the other copy when I moved state.

both she and Renée Neufville appear to be humble, real, poetic, creative ladies...both have passion I wonder if they truly parted so easily. you never see the two with another any longer yet Jean seems to enjoy partnerships; hence, her continued mention of hubby. wamp wamp wamp

The hate is real in these comments dayum! Yo sometimes people have to allow artists to grow. If you know anything about the business especially with the way the industry treats women they don't care if you have talents like writing and playing piano. They don't give you a chance to be a fully realized artist with out fuq shyt happening. THE LABELS KEEP YOU STUCK! So i think that she made the right decision for herself at the time. She is currently Grammy Nominated along with her husband. As Dope as Zhane was Those two ladies were being stifled. Would you rather them have stayed together and you don't hear from them again do to record label bs like shelving a great record or what? But y'all should stall the sister out. This is why you need a strong mental foundation and spiritual foundation when being in this business and that means even if you are a platinum selling artist you gotta know sometimes when to walk away and bet on yourself. Which for her is paying off. And like she said who knows...those Sistas don't hate each other. Outside influences can really mess things up. It happens all the time. For Zhane to reunite the situation probably has to be damn near ideal and perfect.
