Thanks for covering this topic, I had been introducing a new song every week which didn't seem to be working in many cases. I just met with my worship team last week and we agreed that 2 per month might be better.
    Thanks and God Bless

It's a hard balance to walk - new songs/variety vs old songs/familiarity. Too many old songs and an emergent congregation can get bored, too many new and they're not worshiping anymore. Paul's advice comes from true wisdom and a heart for God that is evident in everything he says. Thank God he's posting these!

Thanks Paul, always wise advices from you. When I was young worship leader I pushed the congregation too hard, introducing like 10-15 new songs each month ... (3 every sunday) because the scripture tells us to sing a new song ... but now I realize that it's maybe too much ... I'm so glad we have an opportunity to hear bits of wisdom on worship via youtube. Keep up the good work.

I'm a praise leader. They would get tired, of course (sometimes, and only if you repeat the same song too many times), but he meant that we should be aware that the rate in which the congregation gets tired of the song is different from the rate which the praise team gets tired. I was planning to bring many other new songs. I thank Mr. Baloche for this advice.

    Really good and interesting advice.
Thanks for the great teaching tools PB.
Yes, we practice the songs alot, and think about them more than the congregation.
Before I was in the band, and out in the congregation, I would really connect with
these great praise songs, and really get
inspired and motivated for the Lord.
And yes, I would love to hear "that song" once or twice a month.

So true.... and a good "rule of thumb". Thanks.

Hardest thing for me is dropping off the old songs, lest you end up with a list of 500 songs. And I don't introduce a song unless I like it, and if I like it, I don't want to drop it even if I've done it for 15 years. There are some, like some classic hymns, that I will never drop. Difficult to say, "Well I really like this old song, but I have to keep bringing in new stuff, so something's gotta go."

^^, thank you for the advice brother.
I'm also involved in our music ministry and I agree that we should be sensitive of how the congregation respond to songs that we introduce. . thanks again. God bless.
