Hey Editor was last updated in 2009 and is not supported by Notepad++ by default anymore, since it is unstable. You can try downloading it directly from sourceforge and import it into notepad++. But note: Hex Editor was published in 32-bit and will not be able to run within the 64-bit version of Notepad++.

its only available in in 32-bit. You need to download from sourceforge, and manual plugin import in notepad++ 32bit via Settings > Import > Import plugin, then restart the app.

You did not mention anything about saving the file. Just because you can view and edit the file using the hex editor it does not mean it can be used once all is finished and the file needs to be saved. For example notepad does not have the option to save a sav file. You can save it as .txt yet the file wont be usable even if the .sav ending has not been changed.

Hi, Is it possible to read data from the bin file for the given address in python? I mean in the hex view you shown the address and hex data, right? So, what I want is data if we specify the address

Of course u can use the search feature of the editor to go to a specific address and see the data it correspond in python i guess it's possible im not sure but i used an decompiler and i can see the assembly code related to an memory address

How do Download and install offline ?

Download the plugin and extract the plugin dll file.
Place the plugin.dll file under plugin folder of notepad++ installation. For me it was : C:\Program Files\Notepad++\plugins
Start Notepad++ as an elevated administrator and then go to: Settings -> Import -> Import plugin(s)... (import the plugin).
Notepad++ will show the restart message. / Sometimes it may not show it.
Restart the notepad++.

Thanks. I wanted to see the metadata of an empty file in windows (eg. author, created date etc.). But I see nothing shows up in the hex editor, the file appears empty. Hence, the metadata must be stored somewhere else in windows?

HEX-Editor is no longer available. This is not the case, you are probably using 64-bit x64 Notepad++, install 32-bit x86 and you will have it available. Tested with Notepad++ 7.8.2 32-bit 2020-01-12
