I'll just say, ditto on the helmet mic/cam footage. And - you've sold me on buying a CRF300 to do my exploring out west. 330 lbs. sounds a lot better than 600 lbs. to pick up the 5th or 6th time. Tho due respect to you getting your big bike through that challenge. I don't know how big you are, but the 1200 GS is a lot of bike for anyone on that terrain.
I also want to say that you are a very good extemporaneous speaker. Nor many are. Kudos! And, you 'keep it real'. No posing, jumping, vamping for the camera. You are who you are and that's plenty. Keep em coming.

We hired a guide for a north of Lake Superior ride this summer. It was an amazing area to ride and I highly recommend it. Having been told of a new 50km section of ‘easy’ hydro cut he led us on a new route that he didn’t preride. For us intermediate to advanced riders it was a very challenging section. A lot of the rock gardens, then deep sand, then rocky or muddy water crossings and it began to rain about 3kms into the trail. About half was the same as your steep tough rock garden descent, both up and down. Those baby head or bigger stones provide little purchase and roll around under the bike. It was the toughest riding most of us have done. Up there is without cell signal so your relying on GPSs for rough wayfinding and InReach or Spot devices if help is needed. It took nearly six hours to traverse 50kms. Now that it’s been a couple months in the rear view mirror it’s become the highlight ride of the 2021 season, at the time it was hell. We named the route Purgatory, a name that’s stuck and is now the ‘official’ trail name within our riding community. We were riding gear laden 1200GS, 800GSA, F650GS and a couple KLR 650s. As far as we know only one other experienced big bike group has attempted it but the group turned around after a few kilometres. This was a great video, the in helmet live VO is great! Man, I so feel your internal dialogue in those tense moments. I often go mountain camping on a 1200GSA, almost always riding solo, and have been over many a Colorado/Arizona mountain pass that gets seriously gnarly like yours just did. You were on your game, and were remarkably thinking the exact same things that go through my head, but that I'm not filming to document! Really enjoyable to watch. Two wheels up, brother.
PS: I didn't see, but can you remember what tires you were running?
It’s like the stress is dripping off my elbows after a while. Sometimes it takes a whole tank of get to get to that level of peace.

I was getting a little excited/stressed in those rocky areas, been there done that. Good advice about not getting yourself into a place you can't get out of. I added a Nanuk camera case to my 790 Adventure this fall after seeing it in one of your earlier videos. I have it on a quick release plate.
It is a nice step up for carrying several camera bodies and a drone on the motophoto trips.
Thanks for showing people both sides of the mountain. We often see the romantic ride portion but often miss the “geez, this is hard, what was I thinking” moments that often make up the rides on a medium or large adventure bike.
It sure feels rewarding when the ride ends and you can reflect on the trip.

Your comments about road condition’s for motorcycles vs. 4 wheelers are absolutely correct. Things that a truck wouldn’t even slow down for are virtual road blocks for me. Yet I can blow through sections, honking and waving to Jeeper’s who are out of their rigs scratching their heads. Congratulations on another fantastic video story. Your channel is the best.

Sterling, what a great video! I love the way you talked about the feeling of having to ride through all the "normal" stuff. The riding footage with narration was equally super. It makes us realize we all go through the same things. I do tend to be more conservative when solo, but there are times where you just don't know what your going to get. Thanks again.

Great Video Sterling…my brother and I took the same wrong turn on the North side of Georgia pass a couple of years ago. It dead ended at the bottom of a loose talus slope and took a huge effort to negotiate and get turned around…you made the right choice!

I appreciated the transparency and candor on this ride. Being of the same age and mindset, your choices of camping yet lack of drama getting there is my desire. That North side would have me swearing (and probably whining) for sure. Too much for me on the GSA but kudos for grabbing the mojo and manning up. In the end, that is the only way to overcome. And geez Sterling, no gloves on the rock section? You're a stud.

As soon as I saw the title I thought "fully loaded GS on Georgia Pass, that's bold!" I live right down the road from there and have done that route a lot. Its a rocky beast! Nice job cleaning it. We have the exact same bike and I can say i never thought about taking the GS there! My Jeep or my KTM 500XCW not a prob. But my Rallye? Not likely! Haha!
