How have you been using ChatGPT or other AI tools to augment your work?

It’s been a super charged way to google for me. All the things I’ve wanted to google and massage small chunks of work. Refactor, find dead code paths, testing, architecture questions.

      Copilot helps me a lot.

I'm in the same position as you. There are a lot of repetitive, mundane tasks that require time and cognitive load in our job. I've started using copilot to automate a lot of them using bash, which is dramatically improving my performance and letting me focus on the things that are actually important for solving problems. I'm also sharing my scripts with my team and other teams, which has a knock on effect. Very quickly it's becoming the new norm and it's given me a lot of optimism on how I can grow in my career now that I have fewer barriers.

That's really good to hear and also interesting that you've been using it in a similar way to me (writing bash scripts). Thanks for sharing how you've been using AI ☺️

I think that this is the only thing that devs celebrate and others don’t understand. Every code base I touch I have nearly 12-24 different tech debt tasks that are boring and repetitive. ChatGPT helps me have hope I can maintain code bases better. Like having a super charged tool to make my job suck less

I am excited to see how it can help out with tech debt related tasks too. There's only so much I can do with ChatGPT as I don't want to feed it any code from my company, but for general problems it seems great.
Also my name is Cody and I too code 😉

@@CodyEngelCodes yeah dude! There are some LLMs that are self contained, and don’t have server calls. But that’s a big thing to be wary about. I feel like a lot of clients and companies aren’t fully aware of the risks

I stopped using chatgpt because it almost always is suggesting made up function calls. code looks good but it doesnt work. i develop vscode extensions, intellij plugins and eclipse plugins. for this domain chat gpt sucks. also unlike 90% of software, plugins for ide require very fast execution and here chat gpt is also luring me into inefficient methods. i am still having the experience that i find answers faster on stackoverflow. every time chat gpt makes up fantasy method calls it takes too long to ask again and reading a completly diffrent generated code after its apologies

I disagree. That would devalue our already inflated currency. If anything, just basic food and housing to start. Don’t enable people to spend money on stupid stuff.
