    Not gonna lie, I'm glad I watched someone else just yank the wiring assembly out before I went and had to do it myself...

    There is also a locking lever at the top of the I/O modules for locking the terminal strips onto the I/O modules. You should move the locking lever at the top of the module to the unlock position before pulling on the handle, and when you reinstall the terminal strips you should lock the terminal strips by moving the lever to the locked position.

      Dedrick Broussard Good point, we don’t have the locks on. We don’t want students damaging a locked card. Thanks for the comment.

      @@RDCINST Someone not in your class might have seen the video and tried to work on a PLC and damaged it if he tried to remove the terminals without unlocking them.

    Thank you for the video, helped me a lot.
    I've a question, can we unplug a module while it's powered or we have to put the rack off first. Thank you

    • @RDCINST
      @RDCINST  Před 4 lety +2

      Nabil Ou you can do it with power on. Just make sure whatever inputs or outputs are controlled by the card are in a safe state.

    Would you power down the whole PLC to replace a module? I have a bad RTD module and have to replace it. Allen Bradley doesn't have a power button like a Siemens PLC does. I have replaced a Siemens but not on an Allen Bradley. Thanks in Advance.

      The modules are hot-swappable on the ControlLogix series. Confirm in the documentation, but you should be able the change the card out with the PLC powered up. If the PLC is controlling a live process make sure to connect to it with Studio 5000 and check the module isn’t configured to fault the controller when it is disconnected. Otherwise, if you feel more comfortable doing a shutdown, you can power off the PLC by opening in the door on the power supply and using the power switch to power it down.

    Mine wouldn’t connect back to the PLC after installing. The ok light was flashing

    • @RDCINST
      @RDCINST  Před rokem

      That’s too bad. Was the controller in run mode when you disconnected it? If so, the ‘Major Fault On Controller if Connection Fails When in Run Mode’ option must be checked in the module’s configuration in the RSLogix 5000 / Studio 5000 project file. To clear the fault you can do it from Studio 5000, or switch the key to PROG and the back to RUN once or twice to if you don’t have the software.

      @@joew4202 I would reach out to Rockwell if the module is still on warranty. Those modules are suppose to be hot swappable.

    by powring off the PLC and removing/installing the CPU , is it going to loose its data taking in consideration that there is a backup battery inside it

    • @RDCINST
      @RDCINST  Před 5 lety

      abdelssami brahmi that’s right! The 1756-L61 has a backup battery for powering the memory storing the program. As long as the battery is still good, the program will not be lost if the power supply is turned off. There is a battery indicator light showing the status of the battery. If the battery is weak, a red “Bat” light will turn on.
