I love how each person's reaction is unique. Jack smelled a rat even before his SOUL turned blue, Etika just started trousling to the bones, the Game Grumps had a telepathic moment, and Uncle Joel was...just being Uncle Joel.
I like that everyone except Jack was caught *completely* off guard by the attack, and even he was surprised by what actually happened. (Jack at least had an inkling that _something_ was about to happen when the music faded out.)

Jack was just really good at finding stuff out. He saw the connection between Patrick and Sans YEARS before it was actually discovered.
I wonder how different these reactions would be if Sans didn't tell them about his blue attack.

Everyone has 4 stages of Nyeh to them:
-Mocks Papyrus for sucking at his "Blue attack"
-Confusion to what happened to their soul
-Compliments/upset at Papyrus' sneaky move
-Bops their head to the music
One of my favorite moments in the game. To me, it completely validated Papyrus as a character... I had actually been feeling sad for the guy up until then, his character's high aspirations and low competence made him honestly tragic, though hilarious. His boss fight just being another silly joke, his attacks too weak to pose any real challenge, just as he was...
But then, right at the apex of his failings... the twist. When the soul goes blue, and the bone deals a hit, everything slots right into place. And so do the drums. Papyrus isn't weak, and that's wonderful.
That's a pretty good way to explain it!

To be fair, this is the first time in the game that the properties of the soul are altered. It's a genuine surprise, and sets the stage for most of the rest of the bosses in the future!
