La Corsica è stata parte della repubblica di Genova fino al 1768 (quando ancora l’Italia era divisa in tante repubbliche, regni, Ducati…). Genova l’ha poi venduta al regno di Francia perché era in debito, aveva bisogno di soldi e la Corsica creava problemi perché voleva l’indipendenza da Genova. Da lì la Corsica ha sempre fatto parte della Francia, e quindi nel 1861 quando c’è stata l’unificazione d’Italia la Corsica ne è rimasta fuori facendo parte, appunto, della Francia. Però mi raccomando, la Corsica come la Gioconda sono e sempre saranno italiane 😉

La Corsica non vuole essere né francese né italiana, sono corsi e vogliono essere considerati semplicemente corsi.

@@pistisnicola3081 é un'opinione ed è la TUA opinione. C'è una piccola percentuale che la pensa come dici tu, ma la maggior parte non la pensa così. Basterebbe vedere le proteste che hanno infiammato la Corsica negli ultimi anni e i partiti indipendentisti che negli ultimi anni hanno vinto le elezioni, tanto che il presidente attuale che ha vinto le ultime elezioni è Gilles Simeoni, indipendentista e autonomista. E no, non sono opinioni, ma fatti. Ma tu pensala come vuoi 😂

Cosa c'entra il loro supporto all'indipendenza dalla francia con il loro essere Italiani?! Niente di ciò che hai scritto smentisce la mia affermazione. Appunto che sono Italiani e non francesi, non vogliono essere assoggettati da questi ultimi. Il fatto che in molti non ci sia la coscienza di essere Italiani è tutt'altro discorso ed è la conseguenza di oltre 2 secoli di attacco all'identità Italiana condotto dalla francia. Molti altri sono molto coscienti di essere Italiani. Quindi hai generalizzato.

Corsica is an Italian island occupied by the french repubblic. In Corsica, language, culture, tradition, history and surnames are Italian. They have been persecuted and even exterminated for centuries by france for being Italian. Mostly because france feared to lose the island, cause Corsicans wanted to defend their Italian identity and also to unify with the rest of Italy.

@@WelshASMR82Italian Yes, it's terrible. Occupying Corsica was an ancient french ambition that france had at least since 1600. They fought several wars over the years to liberated themselves from french occupation. But france suppressed them with incarcerations, suppression of Italian identity and massacres. There are also cases in which judges accused Corsican groups of crimes they had never committed and then proceeded with the death penalty. In 1859, while Italy was reunifying, they prohibited the use and teaching of the Italian language, which was the official language of the island until then, and also of the Corsican dialect (which is part of the tuscan dialects, the closest dialects to standard Italian). The Corsican dialect is considered by UNESCO as a language at risk of disappearing. During world war 1, france used Corsicans as cannon fodder in senseless attacks to spare french lives and thin out the Corsican population, 10% of the Corsican population will die in that war. Another tactic was the mass immigration of Frenchmen and citizens of the colonies to Corsica to change the demographics of the island. A famous example is that of the "black feet", over 17,000 of them were sent to Corsica. In addition to pushing the emigration of the Corsicans, "a diaspura", in which over 800,000 Corsicans left the island. An impressive number compared to the size of the small island.
Even today the island has for France, as Sardinia for Italy, a notable importance from a military and strategic point of view: also in coordination with Italy and with NATO, large portions of the Corsican and Sardinian territory, together with the neighboring seas, are burdened by a rather extensive complex of military easements and international shooting ranges.
Ironically, the most famous historical figure of france is a Corsican: Napoleone Buonaparte. Napoleone was, at first, an Italian patriot and a Corsican independentist, just like all his whole family. His mother fought in a war against the french while she was three months pregnant with him. His parents fought side by side with their close friend Pasquale Paoli, a famous Italian patriot.

“We are Corsicans by birth and feelings, but first of all we feel Italian by language, customs and traditions ... And all Italians are brothers and sisters in solidarity before history and before God ... Like Corsicans we do not want to be either servants or "rebels" and as Italians we have the right to be treated the same as other Italians ... Either we will be nothing ... Either we will win with honor or we will die with weapons in hand ... Our war of liberation is holy and just, as holy and just is the name of God, and here, in our mountains, the sun of freedom will rise for Italy.” -Pasquale Paoli
Also, we have many testimonies of Napoleone's Italian feeling:
“My relatives, my country, and my veneration for Paoli…were my only passions.”
When Napoleone went to boarding school in France, aged 9, he liked telling his classmates that, one day, he was going to liberate Corsica from the french. And he showed them his contempt for france.
His classmates mocked him for his thick accent, for his strange foreign name, and for being Corsican. Even some of Napoleone’s teachers taunted him for his hot-headed nationalism.
“I suffered infinitely from the ridicule of my schoolmates, who used to jeer at me as a foreigner. My pride and sense of honor would tolerate no insult to my country or to the beloved national hero Paoli.”
In his early writings, Napoleon calls the French “contemptible for their customs…, their conduct” and “monsters.”
He always called Corsica and Italy “my country.” He did so even at the end of his life while exiled in St. Helena. In his last years, he stated he wanted to be buried in Corsica, in the cathedral of his hometown, Ajaccio.
After studying in france, young Napoleone returned to Corsica. He began writing a History of Corsica and got mixed in the local politics. He joined the resistance and fought for Corsica’s independence against France.
"French, you are not satisfied with having taken away everything that was dear to us, you have also corrupted our customs. The current situation of my homeland, and the impossibility of changing it, are therefore a new reason to flee a land where I am obliged by duty to praise men who by virtue I should instead hate. When I arrive in my land, what attitude to adopt, what language to use? When the homeland is no longer, a good patriot must die." (1787)
Napoleone was quite aware and proud of his Italian roots. When he was young, he showed his genealogy to a friend. It proved the Buonapartes came from Tuscany. He also mentioned his Tuscan roots during his exile in St. Helena. And in the last years of his life, Napoleon stated: “I am Italian or Tuscan, rather than Corsican.”
The respected French historian Hippolyte Taine, who was born shortly after Napoleone’s death, associates Napoleone even more strongly with Italy:
“Napoleon, far more Italian than French -Italian by race, by instinct, imagination, and souvenir-, considers in his plan the future of Italy, and, on casting up the final accounts of his reign, we find that the net profit is for Italy and the net loss is for France…”
But during his life he choose personal ambitions. That's why many Corsicans hate him.
This is a quote from the famous Italian general and patriot Giuseppe Garibaldi, who participated in the reunification of Italy:
"Corsica and Nice must not belong to France; and a day will come when Italy, aware of her value, will reclaim her provinces to the west and east, which shamefully languish under foreign domination." Giuseppe Garibaldi, 19 May 1882, from Caprera aiming at the coasts of Corsica
Today, Corsicans are a minority in their own land. Even if they are still the relative majority.
