I was finally able to cover a Kikuo song!
You guys don’t know for how long I’ve waited to do something by him, I mean, I wrote those lyrics for his other song “Breaking Things” years ago but never got to record it. So yes, this is a a good day. I also just wanna say that if you like this song, you’re gonna LOVE Kikuo and Hanatan’s newest collaboration album because his songs paired with her voice are beyond amazing. Anyway fangirl-ing aside, I feel like this is Lost One’s Weeping all over again because hoooooly crap those notes. I swore I’d never scream sing again and yet here I am. I’m sure there are also going to be complaints about the lyrics (as if there aren’t always ha) since I had to bend some lines to be singable on long high notes (ya know, that thing, sing-ability ha). So lemme just address those future complaints:
➤ [This I know] is supposed to be [Forever] ➔ I pushed it to the phrase before so I could sing an “o” vowel
➤ “What? [Carry me] isn’t in there??” ➔ You’re right but I wanted to convey the feeling of wanting to be saved and taken away
➤ Why u put [world of the dead]?!! ➔ The original just said “sekai” but again I wanted a singable vowel and add impact of this nightmare world
Ehh there’s more I’m sure but this is such an art song and open ended that I decided to make executive decisions on certain lines. If you’ve got more questions, feel free to fill a bathtub with the original kanji and bathe in it. Kikuo is great, Hanatan is queen, this video is dank yo, have a good time!

i checked the meaning of that stag in the beginning and end of the mv and found out some things. stags in celtic culture represent purification and independence. hence this could be seen as her consciousness telling the girl she shouldn't be too reliant on others to run away from bad dreams or harsh realities. in christianity stags symbolize god taking care of his children. this could mean someone is watching over her and waiting to save her, possibly referring to the person she waits for to save her ("surely you'll come for me"). stags also are symbols of regeneration, so this could mean that the girl's consciousness is telling her that she can heal from her traumatic nightmares/real-life experiences. northern americans believe stags to be messengers, hinting at a hidden message the girl's dreams could be telling her about her current state of mind in reality. in buddhism deer symbolizes harmony, happiness, etc. the way the girl frames the stag with her fingers may mean that she is eying her escape to happiness and peace but she cannot reach it. that's all i could really find out and these are just my interpretations of why the mv makes it a point to show the stag in the first place. soo...uh have this long ass paragraph **throws and leaves**

It's a good few ideas, but the stag could be a deer warning streetsign as well. I don't know, the it makes sense of why it's also in such a harsh looking triangle

THEORY:
She got into a car accident, that's why you see the sign with the deer in it. It was a 'Deer Crossing' sign. She's in a coma now and that's why she can't wake up. Maybe on life support, with tubes down her throat and that's why she can't breath or speak. As for terrible dreams, she's literally dreaming and unable to wake up. Ba-Bam!

Some people don't understand why she focuses on the deer, Actually it is a "White Stag" which means good luck, but it has black smoke around it meaning "Shadowy stag" which usually means "Impure" or "Danger" So when Olight-chan Focuses on the white stag in her nightmare it is being consumed by danger or fear, Which is a little teaser most people overlook :P

I think this song is pretty clear on what it's about. Generally speaking, she's just in a shitty place and hoping and praying to be saved. In the end she gives up, as the white deer appears to have moved and looks to be leaving.
Now this can be interpreted about mental illness and trying to overcome it or physically being stuck in a negative environment, like an abusive home and she can't leave because she's only a child. There appears to be someone who promises to save her but they have yet to come and she tries to hang on but she reaches her limit.
Um actually this is a story where a little girl was with her parents on there way to her school and while driving they hit a deer causing the car to flip and kill both her parents and leave her in a coma,you can see what I mean because she puts up her hands which show a deer if you look at the picture it shows a deer crossing sign. So sorry about your theory but this is the real story. And also the "please wake me again!!!!!"

Okay, my interpretation of the song:
This girl has a sleep paralysis disorder, and she is seeing monsters and for some reason very cute jellyfish ( that was a joke. Jellyfish stings usually paralyze you, and that adds to the paralysis idea.)
She is calling for people to fully wake her, but she can't speak because, well... Sleep paralysis disorder.
And the part of her breaking the plate with a fork means that she is angry that she has her disorder.
Her little journey ( I think) documents all the monsters she has seen, and the octopus grabbing her represents waking her up.
The string her legs hang by either reperesent her being on the brink of suicide, or on the brink of escaping the dream but then it doesnt happen because why tf not. The hooded figure may reperesent something she sees in her dream, or it could be her feelings. then the end just means it happening again the next night.

Okay, here's a theory for you.
I can see this being the story of a girl who had fallen into a coma after a car accident. The deer with the triangle around it could be a "DEER CROSSING" sign one would find on the side of the road. In two separate scenes, the deer is facing towards the viewer, like it would do if it had headlights shining on it. After the car hit the deer, perhaps she had hit the seat in front of her (seeing as she is wearing a school uniform, she must be young enough to at least be in around a middle school, so she must still be too young to sit in the front seat.) She may have come to for one final time before falling into her coma, and that could be on her way to the hospital, with the imaged of her running through an area with many windows and it being a very long hallway, which many hospitals have. The image of her climbing the ladder may be her trying to show how hard it may have been to be put on the stretcher for an ambulance. When the hooded figure (which I will assume is a doctor (plague doctor or otherwise)) pushes the button for the string the girl is attached to, she reacts as if she had been shocked by electricity, perhaps electrical cardioversion? Continuing on that, maybe he trying to jump off that ledge is her dying, and that would be why the doctors would shock her and keep her alive. Her laying still in the grass could mean that the doctor's attempts to save her life could have failed, and the girl did end up dying.
Kinda a sad theory but that's just my take on the song.
Edit: Even the title, "O Light," could be referencing the lights those close to death claim to see and be heading towards before they die.

theory: this girl got lost in a forest, and is now a missing person. she's been missing for years, and has passed on. before she was lost, she was an ungrateful child who broke things and threw tantrums, and no one is coming for her. yet, she is damned to this hellish forest, and is trapped inside reliving nightmares and praying someone will come find her and free her from this limbo she's been trapped inside of.

At 2:50 the line, " I'm hanging by feet, up in the air, from a string," and the imagery surrounding it perfectly fits the symbolism of the Hanged Man arcana in tarot. This card usually is used to say that a person is in a situation that they have no control over, perfectly fitting into this song.
My theory is that she suffered physical and sexual torment from someone and the affects of it left her in a coma. While in the coma she suffers from PTSD and vivid hallucinations. In the song she is begging to be woken up so she can live her life. As time goes on however, and she passes the three month mark it is clear she won't wake up. The Jellyfish were her hopes for recovery, and the plate was her desire to sense again. As she marched from the likelihood of waking the PTSD became worse and worse. So she begged for death. Death pushing the button and zapping her awake was just someone trying to keep her alive and onl succeeding for awhile longer before finally they pulled the plug on her life support.

JubyPhonix sounds great in this. On a side note, I feel that the interpretation that "O Light" is about a girl being trapped in a nightmare is far too literal. While it may seem like an easy explanation for generally vague Kikuo lyrics, it just doesn't seem to be a satisfying enough story. It seems to me that the girl, who is initially voiced by Hatsune Miku, is severely depressed. Her life used to feel so carefree and happy, but as she grew as did her sorrow and despair. The girl begs to listener to "wake her up again". I think her awakening would be symbolic of her recovering from her depression. As someone who is depressed, I understand the sense of hopelessness and misery. However, as seen in the music video, the girl is confronted by a cloaked and ominous figure who seems to be the Grim Reaper or Death. I believe this particular scene to be the girl's realization that suicide may be her only chance at escape from her suffocating sadness.

My interpretation:
This girl has a nightmare every night, and for me the jellyfish represent her, when they splat down it's her waking up. Of course, the tentacles represent the people that wake her up because she can't on her own until she 'dies' in her dream. Since, of course, no one wants to die, she runs from the monsters because she doesn't want to 'die'. Breaking the plate, I think, is her representing her wishing the nightmares stop.

After actually looking into the lyrics, I am now able to tie my own meaning to this song. This reminds me of when I have really bad dreams and those dreams stick with me for awhile even after I wake up; i’ll feel like i’m still in the dream. For example, in school, we were learning about the American Revolution and I had a dream I was a soldier, and when I woke up, I was legit lying there in bed for 10 minutes thinking the “enemy” in my dream was still coming for me to kill me. I still felt like I was the person I was in the dream, and it was very strange. Anyway, that’s what I relate this song to.

I keep thinking of the girl from "hitoborinbo envy", when she committed suicide (or at least tried to) she was in a coma. Where she was wearing a school uniform because the thought of growing up in a world with parents who argue scared her, the monsters represent her fear of being unwanted or disliked, the tentacles are because she tried to drown herself. She can't breathe or talk because of the fact they're trying to clear her throat of the water (or its Because if the water), the dear represents a sign she saw which led her to the ocean, a dear crossing sign. The string part represented her thoughts of suicide (which she did try to drown herself may I remind you)
I know it's not true but the thought still crossed my mind so I thought I'd comment on it.

I know this is probably not what it's meant to be about according to other comments, but to me, this song is about the fear of dying and sleep paralysis, cause that's how I personally relate to it.

I have a theory about this...
