Atlanta Hawks Announcer Suffers On-Air Medical Emergency

- Sportscaster Bob Rathbun suffered an on-air medical emergency during an Atlanta Hawks basketball game. Rathbun slowly slumped in his chair and then started to convulse while commentating on the game. As Rathbun loses consciousness, someone off-camera reaches in to help him as the camera cuts away. His rep said in a statement to Inside Edition that the 68-year-old announcer "briefly lost consciousness on the court." “Emergency medical professionals on-site quickly treated Rathbun for dehydration,” the statement continued.
Him being "treated for dehydration" does not rule out that he was or is not being treated for something else.

That slow response due to not wanting to mess up the coverage is wild. Just goes to show them if they themselves fell their coworkers wouldn’t even immediately help.
I think the co host was looking at the camera and didn't notice until he looked back.
His co host is NBA hall of famer Dominque Wilkins. Niq wasn't paying attention. He's known to be a kind, caring man
He didn't realize not notice what was happening, I don't think he would've just kept going on had he seen him. Then when he did notice it, they kept turning it off and going back to the beginning of the incident.
He didn’t realize and once he did realize he immediately stopped. Stop trying to make him look bad when he literally did nothing wrong🤦🏽♂️

As someone who has seizures, I have no idea what I look like when it happens. I just wake up on the floor (or in an upside down vehicle in someone’s front yard), generally with some kind of injury to my face or head, completely confused as to where I am or what is happening.
Dehydration may have been a contributing factor but it definitely wasn’t the sole reason he was convulsing.
Yeah my sister’s husband had similar happen multiple times and he’d also get extremely out of it and as if he was drunk, unable to walk, etc and they said it was just dehydration, but he’s been getting more tests done and indicates more is going on with heart and such

I'm a medical professional, and I saw these exact symptoms on someone who was dehydrated. It's important to always call for help because their could be some underlying health concerns that you aren't aware of.
In an older person, dehydration can definitely cause a lot of medical problems. It's very possible this gentleman has diabetes or some other condition that can also lead to dehydration. As a younger person, you'd never consider how important hydration is. Almost every time my dad got ill enough that I needed to contact EMS, it would turn out he would be just fine once he was given an IV bag of fluids.
