      Lissa Lissa
      So is spanking like a “cute” beating then? A little swat? I’ve never quite understood this one. They both exist on a continuum of violence. Spanking is linked with the same negative child outcomes as abuse, just to a slightly lesser degree. If spanking is not abuse, when does it become abuse then? When you leave a mark? When you do it daily? How do you really determine this? It’s not a game you want to try to get into. Given that the intent of spanking is to cause your child pain, injuries can easily happen.
      The bottom line is this: When you spank you are teaching your children that you use violence to solve problems, that you lack self-control, and that you are unable to come up with a better way to teach them. Period.
      The word “spank” exists because it is a euphemism to convince yourself that hitting children is acceptable. It is not loving. You don’t hit someone out of love. Is that the message you’re really trying to send?
      Spanking is about a lack of self-control.
      Our children are not property. It is our responsibility to guide them, love them, teach them, and provide for them, but we do not have the right to violate their bodies. It is a basic human right to be free from physical harm, and this certainly should not exclude defenseless children who don’t have a voice.

    I'm black and my parents are from the Caribbean and when I was little my parents will spank me with a belt, and they used to give me a scary death look when I did something wrong. All of those worked for me and I straightened up really quick LOL. I am thankful for my parents disciplining me that way and I appreciate it because I am 25 years old and I am the person I am today because of discipline. It's interesting to see how different cultures/races discipline their children because they all do it differently. Discipline is very much needed because children needs to know structure and boundaries and they also have to know what respect is and they have to give it and it starts at home.

I'm not saying parents shouldn't be parents but they have to keep in mind that their child is a person too, only younger.

It will potentially increase their aggressive behavior,.... Did you know that spanking is banned in 59 countries? That includes most of Europe and other countries.... And a lot of those countries are doing so better than the U.S.

    • @Mr.Goodkat
      @Mr.Goodkat Před rokem +1

      @@mikesworldtv The bible uses shepherd metaphors all the time, the rod is something shepherds have which they use to guide sheep, they don't hit the sheep with their rods, when you combine this with Jesus saying "Do unto other's as you'd have them do unto you." and also it's description of love as "patient", "kind" "not arrogant or rude", "not irritable" and "does not count wrong doing's" in Corinthians plus the preaching love is the most important thing it clearly doesn't mean we should NOT treat our sons/daughters like we want to be treated.
      It IS "arrogant" to dish out punishments to people because they offended your sensibilities and it is "rude" to hit people, it isn't "patient" to do so either and it is "counting wrong doing's" to remind your son or daughter of the things they've done wrong etc,
      There's also part's of the bible which talk about the wife being subservient to the husband why don't you institute that? or stoning an unruly son to death? not mixing fabrics and other things which our society just flat out ignores because they don't like those parts but you embrace a part which you think is telling you to hit a loved one with a rod? "loved" one remember the bible's description of love? patient, kind, doesn't count wrong doing's, isn't arrogant or rude that is how you're supposed to treat your loved one, don't you ever feel guilt when you "discipline" your son? how many times in your life have you felt guilt after doing something right? it's something you feel only when you've done something deep down you know/sense is wrong.
      So each society looks at the bible and chooses the parts they already agreed with before reading to bring into their lives and ignores the parts they disagree with which is always the ones their society doesn't like because society trumps the bible IT is what decides your morality not the bible.
      Also clearly Jesus thought "do to other's how you'd have them do to you" was more important than any passage about "disciplining" or "punishing" your kids in fact he said nothing about that as far as I know and said lot's about being kind, loving and not hurting other's and when asked what was important that's the sort of stuff he'd empathise you get uncomfortable picturing Jesus hit children with a rod because you know that's not in his character and shouldn't it be his character you're emulating? it feels wrong because it is wrong.

      ivy lala Sometimes when a child is being notorious it is necessary to discipline them. They have to learn that there are consequences for certain actions. That's where the spanking comes in handy until the reach that age where they can tell the difference between wrong and right. When a child starts being picky aka "stealing" you have to tell them it's wrong and if they don't listen you take another measure i.e spanking so they understand the seriousness of the matter coz quite frankly if you don't eradicate that behavior at a young age they grow with it and when this child is 21 and they steal they'll face the wrath and cops will have no mercy. I'd rather spank and teach my child than watch them get "spanked" and taught by the world. As long you care about your child it's all done out of love!!!

My mom didn't just talk to me when I did something wrong, somehow people here think that when parents don't spank their child speaking to them is the only option? There're are so many ways to discipline your child. My mom pretty much embarrassed me when I did something wrong. Do you really think I would do it again? My aunt would take everything from my cousins room when they did something bad. I put my little sister in time out or take fun things away from her and that seems to do the trick. Like I've said I turned out fine and so did my brother.

    • @tiaratequan5023
      @tiaratequan5023 Před 9 lety +9

      ivy lala Absolutely!!! There are different ways of disciplining children. Quite frankly there are children who could care less about getting embarrassed simply because that's just how they are. Different ways work for different people. Spanking a child won't make them necessarily respect you and embarrassing them won't either. The goal is finding an effective method to teach them what is right coz quite frankly all you're trying to do as a parent is protect them the worst. I was spanked as a young child and I thank my mom for doing that because I feared the cane until I got to a point where I didn't have to be spanked because I understood why some of my actions were wrong and the repercussions and by that time I had respected my mom enough for her not to have to repeat something twice for me to learn from it and I turned out just fine. People are different, have different ways that work for them. They don't have to be the same but serve the same purpose which is discipline!!Do what suits you!!!

    I don't agree with spanking period. I'm black an don't agree with that abuse. Parents don't spank there kids out of Love , you do it out of anger. Now how would that show a child what they did wrong and how will it solidify that you love them?
    My mother never spanked me and I turned out very well in life. What my mom would do is talk to me about what I did wrong and how I will make up for my wrongs, and in a lot of ways that taught me responsibility, owning up about my wrongs etc . My mom would even take things I adored the most , which definitely worked. lol. So I just believe it's always a more effective way instead of spankings.

      +Darius Shivers I was spanked my whole childhood. You should fear your parent because then there is no reason to be good if you dont. You're acting like if my dad spanked me i would be afraid of him at every waking hour. What spanking does is make you fear your parent when you know you've done something wrong.

      Well good for your spanking My parents didnt and I thank them for that. It taught me a lot. And no you shouldn't fear your parents you should respect them.

    • @WittyName101
      @WittyName101 Před 8 lety +46

      +Darius Shivers Fear and respect go hand in hand. You respect a lion for fear of dying. You respect the law for fear of going to prison. A man who respects God is known as a God FEARING man. Fear is a good thing, without fear we would all be dead. If your parents weren't scary then theres no reason to be good. And spanking does not come from anger. When a kid does something bad at a young age its hardly ever anger inducing to the parent, but the child needs to have fear associated with the bad behavior so he learns not to continue doing it. So when a parent spanks a kid its not cuz they that hate their kid and are always mad at them, its so their kid grows up to be a good person who respects the right thing to do and fears the wrong thing. Spanking comes from love.

      For one, when a man fears God that's nothing compared to human emotion. Fear in God is totally respect not that of fear. Spanking isn't biblical period. You can't show me any were in biblical text that allows one to pick up a stick or object to discipline a child.

      If spanking did do swell then we wouldn't have a vast amount of criminals or African American men in jail now would we.
