Just a note - if you comply with the height & area allowances for the most restrictive occupancy you may not need the occupancy separation.

How do you know which occupancy to select first from the rows when reading the separation by occupancies table? For example, in this video you selected Group A first from the rows then Group R from the columns to get 1 hour. But if you select Group R from the rows first then Group A from the columns, you'll get a different answer which is no separation requirement...

I cover this at about the 0:45 mark. The table only has one value for each combination. If you read it the second way you suggested the answer isn't no separation required, the chart just shows a dash, which means the info is somewhere else in the chart...the first way I read it.

Does occupancy separation also apply for vertical separation, if the use occupancy meets the allowable height and area?

Hey Felicia, yes, you need to provide separation in all directions. I’ll be doing an update to the ppd course soon that has more info on this topic.

I've used the USG wall selector tool many times in my career, however just checking it out now and it is only showing 58 assemblies. Did they change this recently? Definitely not seeing the 1 hr wall you are refering to w/out insulation.

I think they did change it recently and it is a lot less useful than it used to be. Not sure what happened but a ton of assemblies and options were removed.

Can you add the link to the selector tools, please? I tried to google it but could not find it.
