Harry never forgot his roots.
I'm Jamaican and grew up singing most of those songs - folk songs. He takes them to a higher level. His arrangements were perfect.
Never forget-be proud! Love, Karita.
I HAD TICKETS TO SEE HIM AT THE GREEK IN CA. BUT HE HAD TO CANCEL IN 2000 I THINK LOVE YOU ALL MY LIFE AND IM 78YRS.OLD HAVE A GOOD FLIGHT MAN🎉❤BIG HUGS
So proud of Harry Belafonte's work with the Civil Rights Movement. I am Caribbean-American, and am so proud to be Harry's third cousin. Harry's grand mother, and my grandfather were brother and sister. My mother, Florizel Agatha Clarke was the daughter of Dick Clarke who was Irish. My African grandmother and grandfather had seventeen children. So sad they have all passed away. Now, I mourn the death of Harry Belafonte. R.I.P Harry.
And sang them repeatedly for the joy of all.
So sad 💔 Today TUESDAY (04/25/2023) he is gone to be with the Lord. My his gentle soul Rest In Perfect Peace 🙏💙❤️
Oh that really is sad! I have only just discovered his lovely voice and music at the recommendation of a lovely person.
Thanks to Harry Belafonte for his amazing contributions to the entertainment industry. May he rest in peace
Seine Filme waren grossartig.😊
"entertainment industry " ?? . Such an expression is an insult to a real artist I find
When did he die?
I was an impoverished grad student who still put in a bid (and WON!!!!) for two tickets to his show from my local NPR station. None of my friends would go with me so I went by myself! That was back in 1992; I had been a fan since my childhood and he’d also exposed me to Miriam Makeeba. I loved him in my childhood, my 20’s and now in my 50’s. May the Goddess protect you sir!
Harry Belafonte's voice and talent are incomparable. Both need to be preserved in our archives. Such talent comes but once in a lifetime.
Dang. I hope you got new friends after that, I'd have loved to go see that in 92'!!
@@anselmohazel8242may his soul continue to rest in peace
Farewell Harry Belafonte, a great singer, an honorable man, a civil rights activist and a tireless fighter for that which is good and just. Rest in Peace.
My parents took me to Mr Belefonte’s concert in Omaha over 50 years ago. My most memorable musical event. The man and the music were so charismatic!
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾♥️♥️♥️♥️

It is one of my most memorable moments in theatre. He was a young man and very very handsome.
63 years ago in Oxford St London I saw an amazingly handsome man not immediately recognized as Harry Belafonte. Before then and ever since I have so loved his voice and his capacity through his interpretation of music to share with us a huge range of human emotions with the added benefit of aspects of Jamaican culture. Aren't we lucky to have ' known' him. A gift to all!
Harry is a man of heart and character ❤️ Love his charm and activism 🌹
Here in honor and remembrance. Rest in peace, “legend” isn’t a strong enough word. Thank you, Harry Belafonte 🕊️
Doamnee... 😂
Amen
He was God’s gift to the world, is truly the greatest and the most profound statement’s to describe his once in a lifetime Human Being!!!!!!
Que maravillosas canciones y muy sentimentales
An impressive man who went through all the best times from his birth before the 1930s and sang until the end after the 1990s before retiring towards the end of the 20th century. Peace to your soul and to your smile 🥲
Rest in peace Harry, you will be missed but remembered in your music and for your love to life
One can only RIP if they had JESUS and loved ISRAEL ...
SAD that Belafonte was outspoken against both. Being handsome and talented doesn't save anyone.
Jacqueline Bourque, who made you God. Find another place to go wrap up in your self righteous hipprocrocy.

One of the most famous men with an impact over the hole world, in positieve way
This is Harry Belafonte's biggest hit and I first heard this song when I was a teenager. Everyone loves this song. It is a work song about the men who cut sugar cane in the fields all night because it is so hot during the day. This is true in the Caribbean, which is where his ancestors came from. He is from New York City...
Thanks Steve Schwartz, he cleared up his place of birth. Harlem New York to be exact.
God bless Harry Belafonte! his songs, his music made us know the calipso sound, we learnt out that an island called Jamaica existed.
Belafonte sang folk songs from Jamaica. And calypso songs from Trinidad & Tobago
Thank you for this detail. I am very sad for his death but it is a great relief to continue loving his songs
Master piece! I can't trade him for anyone else !
Harry Belafonte was the first singer I ever admired - I might have been 7 years old, now I'm 74! - Saw two if his concerts in Düsseldorf, during the second one I could shake hands with him when I handed him a flower at the end of the show!!! He and his music will be in my heart forever! ♥
Same with me, I liked to hear him from the record that my eldest sister bought. I was 12 years old and now I am 72. Rest in Peace, we enjoy your legacy Thank you❤

The name Belafonte is associated with happiness and joy. Growing up in the Caribbean area, i enjoyed listening to his music since I was a child. Great entertainer, actor and activist. Rest In Peace brother.

I loved all his songs when I was just a kid and I love him still in my senior years. He is unique in his style of singing and music beat and in his personna. Captivating smile and soulful rendition of songs whose lyrics are so meaningful that depict the raw truth of life as it really is. God bless Harry Belafonte. A name and whose music I will always treasure and remember.
Il m'a accompagné pendant ma jeunesse et après.

I agree with you Mindy, verbatim. I began listing to his music as a young kid, probably via the neighbors radio, my mom was a big fan. She knew all his songs word for word. So I grew up and who wouldn’t or haven’t fallen in love with Harry Belafonte. I too am a senior and still and always will love this man. He has changed this world with his music, and his humanity. So now we sing for You “Sweet Harry Belafonte “. He the Almighty, has prepared a place in Heaven for you and Sweet Martin. Rest In Peace dear Sir. ❤

Splendid, I am 81 .I have gone back to my younger days .thanks to singers and group keep rocking....
What a man, wow! Have seen him live in concert twice. This singer is so wonderful, he is unique. Seeing him on stage with his elegant movements, his singing, it can give you goosebumps. I adore him for his political work, his fight for more justice of his black brothers and sisters!!!! Even today, at 95 years old he is truly a gentleman!
Rest in peace my beloved brother ❤🙏😊
RIP brother Harry🙏🙏
23:10 Gracias por tanto sentimiento. RIP.
Best singer ever! best voice and he singed what he lived
I have loved this man since the 1970s. I have seen him at least ten times. His humanitarianism is what is so impressive. I wish we lived in the world he tried to create.
Agreed!!! ❤
Much more needs to be said about Harry Belafonte's "humanitarianism." His contribution to the struggle for the liberation of black people, including politicians and artists is immense. I say "is" because what he did cannot be erased. It is done but perpetual in its impact.
LOVE this! One of the most talented singers, with great musicians, amazing arrangements, and such a presence on stage with humor and joy! Not to mention, one of the most handsome men in the world, imho.
I had the honor to see him in concert in New York City, very mesmerizing, great guy to come out Jamaica, belonged to the whole world and like a shooting star just left and bequeathed the world with his music which would live for a long time.
Rest in peace Legend....

I've always loved island in the sun and Jamaica farewell from my childhood in the late sixties without knowing this great man,. I love Harry BelaFonte
I remember when my Mother took me to see Carmen Jones.I was very young but I was memorised by this handsome man.
Then I heard him sing on the radio (no TV then) and have admired him since.
I'm 74 now and I still think he has a handsome face, and a beautiful voice.
All the way from England 🇬🇧
Just Beautiful Music! It is still fresh in 2021.
A true and lovely man of genuine african roots. Great admiration for his God given talent to keep mankind alive culturally. True Jamaican rock manifestations in his genes!
we have to thank modern technology for preserving not only the glorious voice but also the charismaic appearance of Harry Belafonte one of the best singers of the last century
Rest in Peace, Harry Belafonte, the world has lost a great man. We will miss you.
Great man, great musician, great singer, one of the beautiful souls that made it in show business.
I like that in two hours the number of the follwers increased from 670.437 to 678.466. That s our respect for a great singer and man. Thanks to all!
Quel chanteur, quel merveilleux concert.merci Monsieur pour votre engagement de toute une vie❤

LOVE THIS! I'm 64, I did grow up with ao his music because of my dear mum (and I thank her for it) before I turned to "heavy stuff" in my teens.
Thanks for the music, Mr. B! Thanks for your work for justice, equality, and human rights! Your legacy will live on forever! Rest in love, peace, and power! 🙏🏽💗
"Oh Island in the sun" A love song to my Jamaica♥️🇯🇲
Sehr gut, man kann diesen Mann immer zuhören.
Hast du recht, es ist sehr tool!!
Sehr schon alles gut musik danke schon thank you
I was the bartender for his 50th Birthday and his daughter Cheri wanted so much to help until I told her to enjoy her father's party. At the end, the entire family lined up, shook my hand, thanked me and paid me. One of the nicest families I have ever met. Later at Gil Noble's apartment, Harry and Andrew Young were there..only these three and not a drop of alcohol was poured for them, they only drank juices...I was and still am impressed. BTW, his wife got two belly dancers for the entertainment!
Wish i could have been there 🤩
When Harry sings about the Islands in the Sun and Martin Luther King sure stirs many emotions . All of his music brings back so many memories . God has blessed this gentle Soul.
Oui, pour beaucoup d'entre nous ❤🙏💛⭐🌟🎶

@@odiledelaune3753 He was great talent, but based upon what others told me, he was not that gentle. He was passionate about the causes he supported, and did speak truth to power!😊

So basically.. YOU disagree that he had a gentle soul.
No reply required, as if one came, it'd only be YOUR ego.

Harry Belafonte a legend. I was aware of his music at a very young age and I loved him and his timeless music. Standing for human rights and uniting cultures with his music. Goodwill Ambassador. May His Dear Soul Rest In Peace.

I thought about the power and the nature of music is like a smoke which bellows from a sources that engulfs it's audiences and fades into thin air. The effect at which it last it's audiences depends in its thickness. A music would fade quickly before it's audience the smoke is lighter and It disappears. But a strong engulfing music stays stronger decades, centuries and generations before it definitely fades finally into the thin air. So these smokes comes out now colourful now in this present generation and it's becoming interesting, intriguing with its dimensions and forms day after day. Especially from Africa and Nigeria in particular. The likes of Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid, Kizz Daniel, Tems, Awake and many growing. Their smokes will fade away in this generation too. Just like Michael Jackson's memory will fade in the next 50yrs to come and finally.
@@adeoyeabiona4745 Interesting thoughts!🙂
In the 1950s we used only to hear him in the radio and sing with it while they play his songs.
Oh that beautiful beautiful man. We were so blessed to have him. May he glance our way sometimes as he leaves to sing in heaven. How happy the angels are going to be now, perhaps they need him...

😢😢 what a wonderful person. A great and important voice left us forever
Very sad. But we are blessed he that he was among us for a long time.
Having taken in his memoirs I'd say I liked and was excited by his Belafonte Live at Carnegie Hall as a 8-11 yr. old. Now I hear and know the integrity of his songs.. He came from where the Caribbean songs originated and identified with people suffering injustice. Courageous, flawed and wonderful man.
