The sketch from the Dead Good Show where Steve and Caroline play a Manchester couple complaining about their holiday is genius. As is where Mrs Merton interviews Steve. They were brilliant on screen together, how I wish they’d done more. RIP Caroline

Just days before she died she was was spotted walking around London laughing and smiling with her friends.
Even till the end she was smiling such a lovely girl she will be missed.

Caroline was amazing.
Caroline was the same age as me. I never met her, though I have met one of her Royale Family co-stars Sheridan Smith a few times to talk to. It's a crying shame that Caroline never got the chance to eventually grow into the "little old lady" Mrs Merton, that she was so brilliant at portraying...some of her exchanges on that show were legendary, like with Debbie McGee, Chris Eubank and the late Bernard Manning. Her other characters and the routines she did as herself were also brilliantly done.
Tbh there's a bit of Caroline in Sheridan. Both highly talented, but with a little bit of self destruction. Rip Caroline, legend.
This is a fantastic tribute to one of the greatest comedians to come out of the UK. Rest In Peace Caroline 😘

came to find this as I just noticed it was recently the 4th anniversary since we lost this wonderful woman, I have been recently rewatching her in The Royle Family and never forget just how much of a great character Denise was. Caroline will always be missed for her immense amount of talent and laughter she brought to any work she did :)

When she wrote The Royle Family I think that she must have been spying on me, and my friends, all her life.
I'm slightly older than Caroline Aherne and slightly younger than Craig Cash. We all grew up within a few miles of each other and, I can only assume, drank in the same Stockport pubs occasionally.
I see the Royle Family as much a social documentary as a brilliant comedy.

I first saw Caroline in her earliest steps on a stage, doing a character called Mitzi Goldberg, who was a Jewish Country & Western Singer. It was startlingly original and funny, but she chose not to develop that persona sadly. With the wonders of something like CZcams, she will live on, and continue to be discovered and enjoyed by youngsters as they mature.
Great words from Steve who was developing his own skills at the same time around Manchester. Wonderful days on the small club scene 1989 onwards.

The Royle Family is one of the greatest shows ever but when people talk about Caroline why does no one mention The Fast Show

Because the fast show was her least best work and only small sketches,. Fast show was funny in its day but it's dated badly hence no repeats, the gags are old and lame and looking back fack knows how I watched it 😂 the royle family you could watch in 50 years and still be funny, I never hear Craig cash talking about her which is weird

The Fast Show may have dated, but for me most of the sketches featuring Simon Day are timeless classics.

Love Steve. He’s a controversial figure and can be a bit marmitey to people but he’s a genuine guy who cares about the art of comedy and wrote one of the best characters ever with a great tribute to another genius character actor

Never realised how important she was in her private life,despite her comedy stuff. I think she could have been a really good stage actor too, in serious roles had substances not got a grip on her.

Peter Hook co-founder of the bands Joy Division and New Order and Caroline Aherne's ex-husband, detailed at length in his memoirs about Caroline's serial violent domestic abuse over the three years that they were married.
"She attacked me, using her nails to scratch at my neck, tearing off my necklace and ripping my top." and "And although she was really contrite the next morning it marked the beginning of some serious screaming-banshee behaviour - putting cigarettes out on my arm, attacking me with bottles, knives, chairs and other assorted furniture."
If the BBC weren't absolute hypocrites with double standards, they wouldn't have standards at all. If she had been a man beating his wife instead of a woman beating her husband, her career would have been relegated to the dust bin of history long ago.
Or perhaps if Hook didn’t wait until after she had died and was unable to defend herself before releasing this information, people wouldn’t simply see it as quite a sick case of heartless opportunism.

it's not really the same, is it? there was no political/judicial system stopping this guy from releasing these stories in his memoirs while she was alive. instead of going to the police, he chose to publicise himself.
how is that different from women who wait till their attacker has died before they come out with their rape stories
well I have just stated why I think it's different. hook is a powerful person. it would be impossible to smother him into silence if he chose to disclose this information previously. that's why it feels like opportunism. and why it's tough to know how true it is.
She's missed thats for sure.
