      I don't dislike Howard as a vocalist, or the Howard era albums, but neither scratched the itch for more AoJB. Jesse isn't as technically accomplished, but his lyrical stylings were a lot more introspective and his delivery was raw and filled with heart and passion. The Howard era stuff seemed to be trying to take My Last Serenade and stretch that formula over a couple of albums. Some good stuff in there but not a whole lot of variety.
      Alive or Just Breathing will forever be the jewel in KSE's crown... that album is just rock solid quality beginning to end. Seeing Jesse come back into the fold was exciting, not because Howard was leaving, but because I always felt he was an integral part of what made that first album so damn good.

    Howard Jones is the man. Who else in Metal has ever sounded like that??? If you would have watched him live with KSE, you would understand the one of a kind monster of a vocalist he is. Absolutely mind blowing. Often as good if not better live. The deepest, most powerful, guttural vocal rips with a perfect transition into the manliest vocal melodies imaginable. Dude has been basically untouchable within his spectrum talentwise for the past 15 years. Crazy thing is that he looks back at recordings like that, and knows that he can do so much better today with the skills he has learned. Only thing that doesn't match is your expectation of what you assume a genre should sound like.

    As a long time metalhead, thank you for bringing up the vocals! I agree with you completely. He is a great singer, but it just doesn't gell with the rest of the bands sound. Plus, on the opposite end of the spectrum I don't care for heavy growling/screaming. Love your guys stuff. The first video of yours I saw was Megadeth's Holy Wars. You earned a sub right then and there.

    I 100% disagree with you, but I completely understand, haha. Everybody has their different tastes in music. That is why there is so many different forms of music. For me, Howard Jones (the singer) was the reason Killswitch Engage became one of my top favorite metal bands. I loved how he could transition back and forth between opera-ish singing and growls, and that his voice sounds so powerful. At that time, his voice along with metal music was unique compared to the other metal songs I was listening to, which drew me to it.

      Onitake - Howard's voice/Killswitch's sound is exactly what drew me to the band. The fact that it is SOOOOOOOO different than the majority of classic /thrash/speed/death/black /nu-metal.
      It being so different is what makes it all that much better. Great, honest review Lost in Vegas

    I grew up in Vallejo and Oakland, CA, with hip hop/rap/R&B... my brother went the other direction with thrash metal and every genre associated. He got me into metal so hard after I was hardcore into hip hop/rap/R&B. Loved the music but especially loved the aggression of the live shows. I'm now an odd half and half combo of the 2 sides and I love it. This song especially holds a special place in my heart. Ive seen it live at least 4 times. Im so happy you receive it so well!!! Love your reviews on metal, since I know our hip hop counterparts are not as open minded!! You guys are awesome!... (Howard is so bad ass in this song!!)

    Although Jesse started KSE with the rest of the band, I MUCH PREFER Howard(who is black but has nothing to do with it) I really believe he made Killswitch as big as it was... Jesse over the years has gotten better at the singing portion but Howard was great at both singing and screaming.. total package man I wish he was back with them..

    • @c0mf0rtablel1ar
      @c0mf0rtablel1ar Před 6 lety +4

      David Brunell Alive or Just Breathing is what made KSE big, The End of Heartache made them more mainstream (being the song on Resident Evil), but don't forget that Jesse had written a lot of that music and lyrics already.

    I am loving your channel more and more each day! As I see by an additional 3,000 more subscribers you are doing something right!
    I completely agree with you George. A song can start out and just smash you in the face with a nice groove and crazy incredible guitar riffs and you will be nodding and bangin' the head, loving it...then a voice is heard that makes you turn your own sideways like a dog does. Not only present in metal and hard rock, it is everywhere. I hear it in country, blues, rap, jazz and top forty. A singer's voice will either make me buy the artists music or it will turn me away completely as far as I'm concerned. No matter how steller the playing and musicianship, the tightness of the band or lyrical content...the voice is the bottom line for me.
    Once again, I'd love to see your reactions to Black Sabbath's "Symptom of the Universe" and Scorpions "Sails of Charon"...please.
