- Finland, The land of the thousands of lakes was calling me - and I finally was following it’s invitation.
Join the journey to the arctic Lapland, to endless forests, to the old Sami people habitat Inari, to a gold village - and to some of Finlands 188.000 lakes.
Finally Finland! We took off from Kirkenes in Norway - and it was just a short ride of 55 Kilometers to the finnish border. Lapland was welcoming us with forests, lakes - and 1.000.000 Mosquitos! After we explored one of Laplands small remote roads close to a lake, we had a little incident: My travel partner dropped his motorcycle - and the horn was broken! But nothing that can't be fixed by chief mechanic Lea Rieck.
In the old Sami people habitat Inari we visited the Sami museum Siida, and continued our route along some amazing lakes. But even more amazing was our stay for this night: The Tankavaara gold village, where people travel to learn how to pan gold! We met some Fins who were completly infected with the gold fever - and who were willed to share their secrets with us!

I love love love how friendly the Finland people were!!!! You don't see that much anywhere anymore. Everyone is so wrapped up in what they want and don't have or just too paranoid to be speak to strangers. So nice to see such friendly people. I just wanted to give each of those men a big hug for restoring my faith in humanity. Seeing the reindeer/caribou roaming around the streets reminds me of our burros and wild horses in the desert around our town. So amazing seeing wildlife in other countries. Thank you for again sharing such beautiful and informative videos. I definitely would love to visit Lapland, but unfortunately it will never happen. So I will just send my love to the wonderful people there. God bless and protect you.

Hahaha yes they are not exactly the nicest travel companions. But we were lucky, we only had to deal with them for about two days and then they were gone...

Das ist echt eine schönen Gegend um Inari rum, hat mir auch sehr gefallen. Ich fand die Mücken weiter Südlich viel schlimmer. Obwohl ich die ganze Tour keinen einzigen Stich hatte, lief meinem Mitfahrer stellenweise das Blut vom Kopf vor lauter Stichen beim Zelte aufbauen ;-) Danke fürs Hochladen, freue mich schon auf euer Schottern;-)
Ja mein Mitfahrer wurde auch von den Mücken missachtet - ist auch klar, wenn sie stattdessen ein Stück von mir abbeißen konnten 😂.
Bei uns war es genau anders rum: wir hatten hier im Norden zwei Tage Mücken und danach nie wieder! Also richtig Glück gehabt!

It’s the best but it’s actually horrible. If you go somewhere where mosquitos don’t carry malaria or something I would maybe opt for a bit “softer” repellent. I had it with me because I carried all these bottles to Africa and therefore didn’t buy anything new.

Dropping the bike every now and then is part of the adventure I guess. And if you are driving a Ducati you are used to things breaking when dropping the bike! 😂 so he did take it very well and was not sad about it at all!

Ich freue mich sehr, dass ihr in dieser Episoden endlich in Finnland angekommen seid und wünsche, dass ihr hier eine geile Zeit gehabt habt und alles prima gelaufen ist. Auch ich fahre sehr gern auf den kurvigen Schotterstraßen mit meiner GS und genieße die schöne Natur. Es ist einfach das Beste was es gibt, oder? Viel Glück weiterhin und pass auf euch auf!
Ja, ist wirklich das beste! Und in der nächsten Folge gibt es dann endlich auch richtige Schotterstraßen - in Norwegen sind die ja eher eine Seltenheit!

We have lots of lots of mosquitoes in the backcountry here too in Canada. Makes you wonder how they survive to come back after each winter. You are so funny, and now you're a duct tape mechanic. 😂👍

Gruezi ! I got prickles down my back when I watched you video because you are trevalling a route that I know. About 5 years ago I hired a car in Tromso, put it on the boat to Honingsvag for Nordkapp, then drove around the top road from Lakselv to Vadso and Vardo, From there I went to Kirkenes and then down the same road as you to Inara where I visited Siida for the second time. From there I went to Karasjok and over to Alta to see the petrogplyphs and then back to Tromso. (About 10 years earlier I visited Rovanemei and went up through Saariselka to Inari.) It's all really nice country and if you go at the right time of year, few tourists.

Mosquitoes and 1000 lakes! Reminds me of Canada where I lived for 10 years. The mosquitoes were there terrible too. Can’t survive without mosquito repellent. Nice video Leah!

I have to admit: we didn’t have those with us. All my tools and things were in the motorcycle in Africa and we just took off so spontaneously and didnt buy any new things. So duct tape was literally the only thing that I had on hand 😂

@@Got2Go I am sure it will. How did you find the 1200gs on the TET? I am currently riding the 850gs and considering upgrading to the 1200gsa for the bigger range.
@@darren4220 My honest opinion is: the 1200 gs can just do everything that the 800 gs can but only better. If you go for such a heavy bike it's actually easier to pick up than the 800 gs due to the boxer engine, it's more comfotable, the whole break system especially when riding offroad is super good in the enduro mode. It's a heavy bike (still prefer my Tenere for riding difficult roads, traveling longer and riding offroad), but the 800 gs is a heavy bike too so in my oppinion even more heavy doesnt matter so much anymore. ;)

Mosquitoes in Finland, Midges in Scotland. My temporary fix .........an old net curtain worn under the helmet. You can see through it but have to shake it if they get too built up. JB
