John B. - Thank You for your comments and thoughts in the 2nd hour about those who listen to this podcast in prison. I serve in the prison ministry in Texas. It brought me to tears to hear you acknowledge them. Your words will mean so much to them, confirm that the atonement includes them, and that our Heavenly Father will never give up on them. Hope and forgiveness are almost impossible to internalize when one faces many decades, or the remainder of their mortal lives, incarcerated. I NEVER leave the prison without overwhelming gratitude for my testimony and freedom.

Dear Brother Bowen thank you so much for sharing the depth of you knowledge of the book of Jacob and the allegory of the olive Vineyard. And your precious testimony of how Jacob was a real person and the challenges and struggles that he had in growing up in the wilderness, going across the ocean to the promised land and dealing with his contentious brothers who created war with their family members. I am grateful for Nephi and Jacob both! They were great Prophets of God who did a really great job in helping to prepare the people and their future Generations who would be taught from these books of scripture to prepare for the Savior Jesus Christ coming to their people in the promised land after his resurrection! I love the prophets of the Book of Mormon and especially Nephi and Jacob. They were great men! They became Holy Men while they were on the Earth. This gives us hope that we may all become holy men and women in these last days to prepare for the Savior's Second Coming! I love our Prophet President Russell M. Nelson and how he is preparing us along with the 12 apostles and the 70s to learn to become holy men and women and become clean and pure like Jesus, so that we will recognize Him and He will recognize us and we will be like Him! We will KNOW HIM. And He will KNOW US!
Thank you to Hank Smith and John Bytheway for all your hard work and preparation that you guys do to create such a great podcast. I have learned so much through the years of all the scriptures that we have studied so far together. It really helps me to prepare to teach my sweet little Sunbeam class in a very simple way, all of the deep doctrine that you have shared with us . Thank you my dear brother and for all your hard work and your great study of the Book of Mormon and all the scriptures. It depends my testimony more and more each day that I hear this podcast and several others like it on CZcams. I'm grateful for this platform bringing forth your knowledge to us. I feel like a student at BYU in your religion classes!

Thank you 😊 I am 78 years old. I remember as a child trying to emagen what it would be like to be old.
Now I don't need to imagine any more 😊❤
I dose go fast. But for me anyway - that's ok.
I'm not perfect but it has become easier to let God prevail and I feel that the last will be better than the first for me because of that 1 thing.
Come Follow Me and Follow Him Lessons are part of that.
President Nelson and the Apostles - The Gospel Joseph Smith restored - I'm so grateful 🙏 ❤I am so blessed. The Lord has been so good to me and my posterity.
    Thank you 💛 😊

Jacob was 90 when he "*began* to be old". Enos uses the same phrase at the same age.
I don't know what to think when my body starts to feel old when I am far from 90.

    • @boydswenson
      @boydswenson Před 5 měsíci +1

Don't think we have any idea how old Jacob was when he "began to be old." All the estimated dates in the Book of Mormon have some kind of a time-stamp like, it has been so many years since some event like Lehi leaving Jerusalem, but we don't have anything like that for Jacob.
Now Enos on the other hand does give us a clue when he says he began to be old and ties that to it being 179 years since Lehi left Jerusalem which means one of two things: either he was realllllly old when he said that, or Jacob was realllllly old when Enos was born, like maybe 90 plus, or maybe both in order to get the 179 years in twoish generations. 😊

Thank you so much, Hank, John and Dr. Bowen. I've listened to this episode several times to help me comprehend more of the levels of the message of the allegory. Hugh B Brown's story of the Currant Bush and the Gardner is one of my favorites. And yes, I'm old enough to have heard it when it was new. I'm 73 and I totally understand Dr. Bowen's comments at the end of the Podcast. It goes by impossibly fast, Dr. Bowen. Enjoy each moment while you can.

The pilppins' in fillopino language hand is kamay meaning rotes, which is also interesting cause tanga another Nephites means hand to and they in spirit claim to be descendants of not just Nephi but mulec a stem of jesse also can find it in my study and pray I am finding Nephites exist today us Lamanites from messoamrica are claiming to be Nephites now and descendants of mulec, also notic my coat of arms I am a descendant of Tephie a daughter of King Zedekiah the same father of mulec who left to Ireland the same place Joseph smith was from in DNA which has it routes in Egypt of the mix of ancient Hebrew blood considering Joseph of markings married a Egyption, so the prophet is like some one who is royal

I really enjoy Brother Bowen’s insights that applies to the BYUH garden. I once had my granddaughter who join her parents living in some very poor soil in the world as an Air Force officer. She asked me, grandpa why does the lord put these people in such a poor situation and I was place in a place where I am blessed with everything I need to grow. How do you suppose I should answer her? When we read about Sherem starting with the law of Moses and claiming that Jacob was "convert[ing] the law of Moses into the worship of a being which ye say shall come many hundred years hence," I immediately thought of Brooke Facer's story. czcams.com/video/3zrEiyCOQG0/video.html. Her family was associating with a group that was trying to get closer to Christ (a good thing) by not worrying about intermediates like prophets and apostles (oops). A truth, a truth, a truth, a lie. Gotcha. Matthew 24:24.
This also happened to a family in my ward who were very devout. When you think you are smarter than God, and the bishop just isn't good enough, it all falls apart. Satan is a snake and has been doing this for a long time. Jacob was right to consider this an existential crisis.

I think the position that Sherem may have been a Zoramite is far more likely than that he was from some other people. There were no other people in the promised land. It was reserved for the Jaredites, then the Mulekites, and the Lehites. The time of Sherem was at least 50 years after they landed in the promised land. There easily could have been a grandchild of someone on the ship who had lost their way.
Sherem says he knew the scriptures; only the Nephites (including Zoramites, Samuelites, Jacobites, etc) had the scriptures.

Joseph (yosep) is from the causative stem of the Hebrew verb yasap (i.e., yosip) which means "to add" or "to do something again" or to "continue to do something." In Isaiah 11:11 it says, literally says the Lord "wiill *add* his hand again the second time to recover his people."
