Lyrics:
Down in a village where most residents were poor
And old man had a factory that folks called "The Killing Floor"
He was a surly master and though his workers all wives
He'd push them within inches of their lives!
They all were sick and tired of this stuff
The men decided that they'd had enough
We won't take this anymore!
Not gonna die on The Killing Floor
He won't work us into the ground
It's time to strike a match and burn it down...
They waited for the old man to head home for the night
Then muscled in with kerosene and lanterns to ignite
They took one final look one final look at all these monsterous machines
Then lit the match that would fulfill their dreams
It was a blazing jubilee
They felt these flames had set these workers free
We won't take this anymore!
Not gonna die on The Killing Floor
He won't work us into the ground
It's time to strike a match and burn it down...
As the workers danced around the fire having fun
The old pulled up terrified and screamed "What have you done?!"
"This factory was the only thing that kept us all alive!
Now you've gone and blown us all sky high!"
The factory was above an oil lake
But all too late they realized their mistake
We wouldn't take it anymore!
Didn't wanna die on The Killing Floor
But we drove ourselves to the ground
When we struck that match and burned it down...
Why'd we have to go and burn it down?! - Hudba
This band needs more re- *cog* -nition
and beards
@@MilataB32 no. Beards are gross 🤢
@@steampunkemo9211 We'll you have "Emo" in your name, so your attitude towards beards/manliness are of no surprise to me.

Indeed
“That folks call the *killin flauur* “
such a good voice
I want to hug the drummer. He just looks depressed, like he needs a hug or a chocolate milk
Joseph Copper A hug *and* a chocolate milk.
They said he is very camera shy, I believe. But he deserves all the things
He fits the story so much
@@AlderBoyBlue honestly it doesn't take anything away, he just looks so done with the others and it is amazing
I kinda love how he looks like he got roped into playing for them.
This is the best underrated band ever!
So true they are sooooooooooooooooo AMAZING ! Love'em !
You should check out Steam Powered Giraffe (similar genre, also with elements of voice acting) or I Fight Dragons (all-around awesome punkish classic rock sorta thing).
Tentacle -Chan you might enjoy Professor Elemental as well too.
Doctor Steel
Tentacle -Chan your underrated they are SO AMAZING
I can't get enough steampunk music
Brass Goggles this is proper steampunk music
Ok, three things.
First: Why aren't you guys more popular?
Two: Why am I just finding about you guys now?
Three: Why can't I like a video more than once?
Good questions
Answer to q 1 and 2: because not enough PPL are liking, sharing, leaving comments and sharing.
Answer to q 3: you can if you create multiple accounts
funny
moral of the story:
Fact check before you decide to commit arson!
Good advice honestly
Moral that im willing to ignore for any dose of Arson...
I always always took it as burn the bosses house not the factory.
@@jakemilton912 that makes more sense
@@jakemilton912 one of the forefathers wrote a letter stating, that corrupt and no good Politicians should have there home, bored by bored, ripped from the home and tossed into the river.

An expisition in swing, folk, and rock all wrapped up in a steam punk bow? Sign me up!
Dr. Steel introduced me to the world of steampunk music. I Googled this band after hearing they were in the same genre, this was the first result, and I'm off to an amazing start; love this style, love this song, love this band.
Also feel free to look up Abney Park and Steam Powered Giraffe. Abney Park is styled after time-traveling sky pirates, and Steam Powered Giraffe are made up of singing "automatons" with an awesomely detailed back story (Which can be found on their website.) Welcome to the club!
I did and I like it! I am loving this steampunk style.
***** Will do! Thanks for the recommendation.
Adam Powell If you like steampunk style music, swing is not too far from it, give it a try : D
as soon as i heard my first song by this band i instantly thought "this sounds like spg and dr steel had some kind of child band"
1:47 The drummer is my spirit animal.
was NOT expecting that
Dude needs a hug
"whats so spec- omfg"
Holy shit I'm in love... WHY HAVE I ONLY JUST NOW DISCOVERED THEM!?!?!!
Wiremux m'dear brought me here awesome steampunk mix ;)
Don't worry I discovered then over an animation of we all have gears from lordbazeen lol
this band is my new ear drug.
IKR ! it's pure eargasm !
How is this band not more popular? This is amazing.
Instead of burning it down, the workers should have organized in a union and taken control of the means of production.
Chuckl'd
Yeah, and then it would degrade slowly. Or become a new company with new management, if some of the workers would be smart enough to manage thing. In both cases nothing would really change.
@@muslimninjaassassin2498 What is Capistim. Legit so curious rn
Skidiction Liduction Seize the Means of Production
Am not sure what you mean I spelled it right.... Commie.
This is the first song I heard .. I'm so glad that I discovered The Cog Is Dead. Amazing band!
Damn dude. The first song? And to think mine was some cartoon intro, for what I remember. Maybe I heard some different song within my first year of life and just, forgot. Like my fellow humans do, just forgetting years of their lives
@@xal7034 I know right?
I discovered this song 7 years ago already, I still listen to the whole story everytime, it's so well constructed - also musically, Well Done Guys!!! (your best work in my opinion =) )
What 90 percent of blue collar workers wish was their theme.
The last line, "We'd we have to go and burn it down?" makes me imagine that all the workers and the factory owner ended up cursed in the afterlife to relive their last few minutes for all eternity. The righteous anger of the workers, their reckless revolt, the factory owner's horror when he realizes what's about to happen. And now they sing, and they lament the fact that neither side was willing to compromise.
Compromise would have been bullshit
Give workers rights
@@internetguy7319 rofl ;D
I imagine it like the undead bar scene in Tim burton's the corpse bride
And this is one of my favorite songs by them.
First, I love the song, voice is amazing. Second, I personally feel the CGI was well done! it was subtle enough not to overshadow the bands performance yet added a nice compliment to the story that was being told through the lyrics. The effects were stunning anyone who has done video editing and visual effects would understand its not easy. I also found the small piano a cool addition.
And this is why you seeze the means of production and not burn it
I have lost count of how often I've watched this. How am I only now noticing that he plays the tiniest of pianos?
This song is almost 10 years old already! oh snap
I love the lesson of this song.
Both the exploiter and the exploited were wrong.
The old man caused the rebellion
The workers were too ignorant to make sure they wouldn't regret it later
You can't give too much power to the worker or the employees, or it will end in a disaster.
Or
You know
England, Russia and pretty much any country during the industrialization.
Kinda like the plot of metropolis
I wish somebody had told that to people in my country in early 20th century, that would save millions of lives, literally.
That's one lesson. You could also say "oppressing your workers will lead to disaster"
@@notablegoat But we don't know how much effort is actually required, it might very well have required everything they suffered.
It's been years since I listened to this band. When I first did, I was ambivalent about who I liked in this song. After three years of retail and odd jobs, I'm on the worker's side here.
Glad I rediscovered your guy's work
2021 and still listening to this. Love it.
You guys are quickly becoming my second favorite band. First goes to Abney Park, but you guys are still amazing.
I think the Blood Sweat and Tears people need to have a nice chat with the Burn It Down people,,,
Well, whatever's lefts of them
피땀눈물 :)
_the greatest creators this world's ever seen_
PS you guys got me putting hats like you.
There's nothing like a dapper hat! 😁
So glad I found this band. Can't believe it took me this long. Just amazing. The storytelling and music styles are brilliant. Brings steampunk alive for me for sure. Great work!
I just learned of these guys, and I love love love your style and music! Thank you ❤
Best steampunk song i've ever heard. Bloody underated band.
After all these years, it never get old!!!
...Seeing him sing...*breathes heavily*
i found this song 3 years ago as i was introduced to steampunk and this was one of the first songs i listened which is still my favorite even today
You rule! You are telling a story with your music and bring us into fantastic worlds! Please do not stop t what you are doing your music is top quality!
Best cog is dead song
God, I love his voice!
I love this song and I'm addicted to listening to it. Great job The Cog is Dead!
I don't remember how I found this band, but I will always return to the first song I heard. So good!
This song is firmly stuck in my head after seeing the Frostpunk 2 reveal trailer.
This is my favorite song from The Cog is Dead! It is so catchy and appeals to my inner pyromaniac!
This song speaks to my soul.
He needs beard
Agreed
Did you just read my mind??!?!?!
*puts aluminum foil hat*
And more cogs
Awesomeness!!!
(It's sounds to me like "hit the road jack")
(:
it really sounds like hit the road jack o.O
hit the road jack, hitchin a ride-green day, stray cat strut- stray cats, its R&B style
One of my favorite songs these days.
The cog is the best, I love it!
I still am loving the cog is dead
god this guy's voice is so great !
I still listen.
This is very impressive
I like this song
I love this song and video. It's great to hear something new. Thanks for late share 😂
The drummer seems really sad...
well its sorta of a sad song lol
Baxocj The other two seem to be having fun.
maybe the drummer was one of the workers :O lol... or one of the wifes
It's a drummer thing.
Morlanius I doubt it, my father never looks sad while drumming.
Love this song so much!!!!!!!!! Thank you guys for making more music!!!! Your stuff just makes me happy to listen to it!
After months of searching, i finally found it! My favourite song!
I love music like this. When people find ways to mix beautiful unknown concepts with modern influences. :3
The Cog is Dead released a new album this year and I didn't notice? I am furious at myself! >.
Moral of the story is twofold: 1) don't treat your employees like shit and 2) don't destroy the means of production, comrade, but SIEZE them!
3) real communism has never been tried
@@Morec0 That is a deeply un-thought-out statement. Regardless, your point is?
@@Coridimus My point is you'll never achieve the utopia you think you can, and will destroy everything beautiful in your wake in pursuit of it. And you'll like to yourself til the end of time to the contrary.
@@Morec0 what you describe is the modern world under capitalism. Marxist socialism, of any flavor, is inherently non-utopian as it strives to understand history and society through material reality as opposed to more ephemeral concepts.
To say "true communism" is almost meaningless. It betrays a lack of understanding of that word, historical and material contexts in which it is used, to say nothing of the broad swath of non-Marxist definitions that have existed.
@@Coridimus aight, here's a material reality for you: I am going to do everything in my power to keep me and mine safe from you and yours, and the resources and power we have accrued through a history of struggle out of your thieving hands. Sound good, "comrade"?
Yes it's so lovely
Anyone else wishing for a ten hour version of this video?
Outstanding song! I am highly addicted to this now. One of my all time favorite songs! Definitely receiving a Tim Burton vibe as well. Keep up the great work guys!
I've been in love with this band since high school, and ended up meeting some really awesome people through their music. Just wanted to say thank you for that!
This song is one of my favorites. Still, as an actual pianist, I can't help but laugh when I see the band-leader play that tiny toy-piano and still have that kind of sound come out of it.
I love how much of a stereotypical music video this is, with the full steampunk welded on, and powered by an original story.
Amazing song! Feels like the big musical number from a Disney film like Aladdin
What a great feel to the song. I do hereby proclaim this fantabulous!
As a factory worker. I can totally understand 😂
keep up this amazing work.. love this type of songs
Dear lord I love spotify for this
You guys are so awesome! Why have I only found this amazing music now?
This band is the best man, not a single bad song in my opinion. I highly recommend these guys!
Damn, this is dark but so good
Nice...Good Story... Catchy Song...
I was able to catch the band live this weekend what an awesome concert
Spotify recommended me this group and WOW! It's amazing😱💕
mix of jazz, swing, and steampunk
So much awesome!
Brilliant song and this is what I love. Each of your songs has a story and this one took a logical spin on the classic steampunk factory tale. Also provides a moral: Sometimes the worst things in life are for a good reason.
Imy fave steampunk song now I live this
This is a banger
walk into a amazon warehouse and start playing this while starting a fire without saying anything and maintaining eye contact
This is why you unionize
This sound is fantastic!
This band is so underrated, I love their music tho.
Every time I listen to one of the cogs songs I feel Inspired. Is that normal?
Very cool.
5 years on and i still get a Fall Out Boy vibe from the intro
I LOVE IT!!!....
I’ve been listening to this song for roughly 10 years and only now do I realize the old man sounds kinda like Dr Eggman
Nothing compelling to say but I dig this song. Wanted to vest some "engagement" so CZcams's algo honors it more.
moral of the story: consider unionizing first
BABYFACE VOCALIST!!!!!! YAAAAAAAAAY!
You know, before I saw the face of the voice I very much imagined a rough, gruff man with a cowboy hat and leather boots sitting at an old-timey tavern telling tall tales to whoever wanted to hear. Specially in "Live to fight another day". Amazing how some people's voice alone can paint such a colourful picture.
its so much fun to Dicsover new Channels that makes great songs when you are making a awsome Usb song list and it only contains Steampunk songs :D
Just found this band. Love the theme and the sound.
Amazing steampunk Rock
the beard does not affect the quality of the music. The group has long been known all over the world (for those interested in steampunk).
With love from Russia :))
Wow I wish you guys could come here to Nevada and perform this song at an outdoor concert with plenty of pyrotechnics!
