  • We spent the Labour Day week cruising from Campbell River, BC to Princess Louisa Inlet. We pass Cape Mudge, Mittlenatch Island, Savary Island, Lund, Powell River, and Texada Island before we spend a night at the Harmony Islands Marine Park followed by our cruise up Jervis Inlet. After traversing Malibu Rapids, we spend several days exploring Princess Louisa Inlet itself. Along the way, we encountered humpbacks, orcas and a really inquisitive heron. The weather was perfect and we had a great week overall.

    thanks for posting this - I spent the early 80's heli-logging (Whonnock Industries - now Interfor) throughout Jervis Inlet, locations such as McCannel Lake, Patrick Point, Crabapple Creek, Hunaechin Creek and Osgoode Creek - I could pick out a couple of cut blocks, greened up with new forest. sweet guitar accompaniment. I would love to visit again 40 years later.

    Have cruised the east coast, Key West to DC, the Potomac, Lake Champlain through the Erie Canal, Oswego Canal, Lake Ontario to the Thousand Islands, St. Lawrence Seaway to Montreal, Sorel, and back down to Lake Champlain, the St. John's River, Okeechobee Riverway, and many fresh water lakes on the mid-Atlantic coast. Have traveled buy cruise ship from Seattle to Alaska but my two priorities now are the Pacific Northwest and the Canada Georgian Island areas on the NA continent. Great video! So peaceful!

      Thanks Bob, we had done lots of lake boating as well as a couple of cruise ship trips before we moved here, and we love every minute that we get to spend on the water in this area.

    This is a very accurate example of what I saw many times in the mid 60's with my family. Thank you very much. I am curious why you didn't include rounding into the end bay instead of the closer 'arrived' cut to the falls. Only my curiosity. Otherwise I enjoyed this very much. Nice music as well. So many memories of traveling on the water as a kid.

      Glad the video stirred some memories for you! I suspect I just didn’t have the footage from rounding into the end of the bay. My wife and I shoot these on our iPhones and as we’ve done a few, we’ve gotten more deliberate in the shots we get, but before that it was really just assembling a video from the clips we came home with. Thanks for the feedback!

    Nice job on the video. Would love to do this trip on a boat like yours. Thank you. I subbed, so will look for future trips.

    Which tug model?

    • @leftcoastcruising7080
      @leftcoastcruising7080  Před 2 lety

      We had a 2012 R25SC when we did this cruise. We’ve since sold our tug and purchased a Hershine 42 Sundeck.

    I guess you didn’t care to tell us about the Christian summer camp you passed at the inlet at slack tide...

    Would the inlet have been to rough to enter at ebb or flood tide?

    • @leftcoastcruising7080
      @leftcoastcruising7080  Před 3 lety +2

      Hey Quackula, the Malibu Rapids are pretty rough at any time aside from slack tide. They are very narrow, and have a sharp bend in the middle so pose a navigation challenge especially if the current is behind you. I’d say you have a little more leeway going against the current, but not much.
