- The presentation of the 123 coupe was held in June 1977. While the coupe of / 8-series were stylistically closely followed the sedan, the new models 230 CE, 280 C and 280 CE were 230 C, clearly independent. The opposite of the sedan 85 millimeters shorter wheelbase gave the car together with the lower roof and steeply sloping windshield and rear window a squat appearance.
The vehicle safety has been improved over the coupe of the previous series: Together with the adopted by the Limousine crumple zones gave the stiffened roof frame structure with high-strength roof pillars and reinforced doors an even more stable safety passenger cell. Engines, suspension and brakes were identical to the sedan.
With the equipment, the two-door versions of the upscale versions of the four-door flagship models oriented 280 and 280 E. This included for all three coupes rectangular broadband halogen headlamps, chromed air intake grille in front of the windshield (to September 1982) and chrome trim under the tail lamps.
Already in the autumn of 1977 was added to the 300 CD (80 PS / 59 kW) and thus a diesel coupe, which was, however, produced exclusively for the US market. The diesel initiative had among other objectives, the average fuel consumption (fleet consumption) to reduce all models of Mercedes-Benz automobiles in the market of USA. After the limits for fleet consumption further tightened, the 300 CD in 1981 was replaced by the 300 CD Turbodiesel. Also this coupé with 92 kW power was not available for the European market, but triggered in the US, the model 280 CE from.
The 230 C was established in 1980 replaced by 230 CE, the new M 102 engine with mechanical K-Jetronic fuel injection contributed 100 kW.
In the summer of 1985, the mass production of C 123. ended Total 99 884 vehicles of this type originated from June 1977 to August 1985, of which 15,509 with a diesel engine.

Having said that, yes, this is a fine car on a classic platform. Being a pragmatic guy, I never buy coupés; a turbo-diesel station wagon would be GRAND.
Look at that huge ground clearance! That's something I miss in today's passenger cars.

Hatte selbst einen w123 ce 280 von 1978 in der selben Farbe wie hier im Video in broncemetallicbraun.
Super Fahrzeug. Habe ihn jahrelang gehegt und gepflegt. Hat mich nie im Stich gelassen. Alleone der Motorsound des 2,8 liters ist ein genuß.....
Leider mußte ich ihn aus geldsorgen schweren herzens vor einigen jaheen verkaufen.....😔

all good machines ,rare but findable i own a 72 version of it and a 83 version both didn´t cost 1.000 euros at the time ,early 90´s. both 230 c, both in perfect condition, both perfect, and i do own also old BMW´s they look good but till today they never manage to reach for mercedes quality , they start to fade with the years while the mercedes still good as new, "very high maintenance" what maintenance?

The W-123,COUPE, IS AWESOME, IT STILL KEEPS THOSE 123 MODEL LINES EXCEPT IT IS 2 DOORS, WHEN I SEE A MODEL BEING LOWERED FR0M THE AIRPLANE, IN BRAZIL, IT HAS LIKE 3 TAILIGHTS NOT THE REGULAR, TAILAMPS, THAT THE W-123,W116 use, I wonder if that was because that car was being used in a race or rally, could you please clarify

The intro still shots... are of a RHD car that you have photo-shopped to look like a LHD. Why bother? The curious pull handle, below the air vent, to the left of the steering wheel, in your photo.... is the parking brake. RHD cars have this instead of the foot pedal arrangement of the LHD models.

i had two ,only one c123 ,i sold it cheap it was a 230c; now they are rare and looking to the used cars i think i´m going to buy a 300d from 82, to drive every day ,the one i still have it´s the four door gasoline , it drinks to much

Music sucks, translation is terrible, and it's not a "C123", but a W123 platform out of which the C Coupé line was drawned.

yup! i got 84 one and its pretty much stock engine with 185K original miles. I swear this car's 0-60mph is way less than 14 seconds!!!! More like 10-11 and I dont know why but I FKIN LOVE IT!

not possible ,they didn´t wanted that to happen in the 70´s ,today it´s a lie, what is safe in a nuclear reactor,almost every electric power consumed in europe come from nuclear plants, hidro-engine was left to develop ,at the time petrol was the answer for everything and today even more, the most ecologic car in the world is the diesel land-rover defender, it as a life of 50 years while electric cars are garbage made of plastic wich will polute the enviroment till the end of humanity, this study was developed by the top engeniers in the study of materials non degradable also the ones that study the quality of the air(enviroment)
