  • The Lord's Prayer sung in Yup'ik by the choir and congregation at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Chefornak, Alaska. The pictures were taken by Thomas A. Dean Jr. The text was provided on the website www.christusrex...
I made this as a gift to my friends from the village because I wanted them to know that I think about them and pray for them often.
For a VERY poor translation and a few various versions of the prayer, please see my blog. Any Yup'ik folks who go to my blog, feel free to leave comments on the translation or other versions that you might use. Thanks!

wcbpolish, very interesting, as well as pretty, singing of The Lord's Prayer. May I ask, since it wasn't in the video, how the village name is pronounced? I'm always curious about that. chef-FOR-nuck, shef-FOR-nuck, or something I've not thought of so far? Thanks very much.

I think that your first phonetic spelling is closer.

wcbpolish, I don't know why I didn't think of this before, but I just returned from Wikipedia, and it appears that cheh-FAR-neck would be a lot closer, based upon the phonetics supplied there, right?
