Harbor Freight "McGraw" DIY Compressor Repair

  • My old compressor pump locked up. So I upgraded the pump and motor for less than the cost of a used compressor. It was important to me to get a pump with its own oil, not a pancake pump. I went with a Harbor Freight/McGraw 3.7 HP pump and a 5 HP SPL Vevor motor. The offset in power was done purposely, by design.

    Friend as a plumber thought the spring method was only for soft metals 😅 I’m young this is still before my time

      I didn't know that method is used in plumbing. It makes sense though. Yes it's also used on steel automotive brake lines, not soft material.

    I have seen a lot of compressor with blown start capacitors because of running of extension cord and generators . 😮

      I’d guess it’s age. I never opened it up to find out what happened . I does still spin with a lot of effort. The person I purchased that compressor from was doing body work. So it worked hard for a long time.
