"After I get into dental school"
Me: that's really specific
Me: *remembers my dentist is LDS*
SO IS MINE
adia mine is too!!
adia my dentist was my bishop but now he's my Sunday school teacher he's lds
adia So is mine! 😂

Why oh why do I see Keith as a perfect Mormon?? He's just so cheerful all the time!
He actually looks so similar to a companion I had as an LDS missionary, so that made this that much more interesting! xD
+Jovey4 - Hahaha! I bet that guy was funny!
encanta411 he really would be the perfect mormon.
encanta411 hahaha, ikr
encanta411 I'm Mormon and I'm crappy 45 percent of the time. can't wait till I have my period.not
The dental school joke is the most underrated. Its so true lmao.
@Jojo Alsinashe Well its kind of a thing, at least here in Utah, where a ton of mormons, after their missions, will go to dental school. Its a well paying job and it makes it easier to support the big families mormons tend to have.
Totally!! They did an awesome job on the whole thing
@Jojo Alsinashe 50% of returned mormon missionaries go to dental school
The only Mormon I know who did higher education was in it for dental 😂😂😂
Jojo Alsinashe Not mormon but grew up in utah and there’s sooo many family dentists it’s insane. Mormons have a lot of kid’s 😂.
I’m a Mormon and I used to be a Mormon missionary, and I gotta day Buzzfeed you did your research!! That’s pretty much exactly how it is 😂😂 I haven’t laughed this hard in a long time
Yep, I'm an RM and this was fairly true to the experience.
Omg, I remember last summer these super kind young missionaries would knock on the doors of every house in our neighborhood, every week. My family is Muslim on the other hand and they knew this, and they would ask my brother everytime they stopped by, "Do you wanna play basketball and talk about our savior Jesus?". They were joking of course, and they would play outside in their suits and everything and it was honestly so sweet! I love seeing faiths helping each other and getting along 😍
CUTTTTEEEEE
Rihanna K. This story made my day!
that's the work of a missionary. I love this story. unity
awesome. i am mormon and have had many muslim friends. I love this thank you for sharing
Rihanna K. yes yes yes!!!
Even though I'm atheist I always feel sorry for them. They're just trying to do what they think is right and they get so much hate.
as a mormon I appreciate this thank you
Andrea Payne As an ex Mormon I also appreciate your comment.
Andrea Payne I am an atheist as well. However, I would never criticize or judge anyone for their beliefs as long as they are safe and not hurting others. I have been told by other kids I'm going to hell but I remind myself that they are naive and don't often have individual perspectives. Go out there and be you. If that's gay, black, gender non conforming, Muslim or Mormon. Love your self and be confident in who you are.
Andrea Payne aw thank you. I'm a Mormon and appreciate that comment. I think if your not hurting anyone then keep doing what you love. Including your beliefs right?
Leolivia im thanks im an ex-athiest born muslim then converted to islam again .i really appreciate the journey because it gave me the potential to look from different perspectives
I don’t agree with their beliefs, but they do genuinely want to help people. So I respect that
@@flowerpower1747 Probably not the gay stuff tho
@@flowerpower1747 They didn’t run out, they got kicked out, because to be LDS and LGBT is to suppress any sexual or romantic attraction you might have for the same sex, which a gay guy understandably wouldn’t like.
@@flowerpower1747 Odd that you only talk about sex, notice I said sexual or romantic attraction, I didn’t say sex was all there was to love, you did. I could not in good conscience deny someone their capacity to love someone in a romantic sense simply because my religion was antiquated with 1800s standards. I’m glad you’ve found peace in it tho, good for you, you’re not every gay person tho, are you?
@@flowerpower1747 Almost sounds more like hetero relationships in the church 🤔. Do you have a statistic that proves gay men are more likely to commit adultery in a relationship than straight men?
@@flowerpower1747 Good talk
This is so accurate I’m crying😭🤣
My dad was actually the mission prankster! Once he grabbed koolaid packets and dumped them on his companion while he was showering. He came out a big ol’ rainbow.
He also once took another elders annoyingly loud chicken clock, and stuck it in the elders vent! He set it for 2AM😭
I love it
When they said "hello" simultaneously, I immediately thought of the Book of Mormon
I genuinely thought this would turn out to be a tbom ad.
ANDREW RANNELLS IS AN ANGEL SENT FROM HEAVEN TO KNOCK ON UGANDA'S DOOR AND CONVERT NABULUNGI AND THE REST OF THE VILLAGE TO THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER DAY SAINTS

Marielis Checo they've been making references all over.
Marielis Checo like the elders
Okay but who's the secret Mormon at Buzzfeed bc this was SO accurate
superskittles i was wondering the same thing!
There’s gotta be one
RIGHT?!😂
It's probably an exmo
superskittles I was wondering the same thing 😂
I love how it's a parody but also not offensive
True, just the comments are offensive
Offensive is preeeetty subjective. Saw a video where two mormons were very offended.
@@Dan-xj6oy I mean, being in a cult is pretty much always going to be a target of disdain.
Ya it’s somewhat tasteful, more than if I had made it lol
It’s not offensive, it’s very offensive
I served an lds mission and all the comments about the musical are cracking me up because I actually was elder price
Are you still in it, or have you read Jeremy Runnels "CES letter" and quit?
I feel sorry for you that you served as a mormon missionary, leading so many innocent people into deception. That must weigh heavy on your soul and on your heart? Knowing that you deceived people and led them into a cult.
@@adamgoodword7888 Actually, I wish Elder Price went to where you are and led you into the beautiful path that is Heavenly's Father pathway. Maybe one day you should humble yourself and appreciate the missionaries that do this to take us all into the righteous life ;) I feel sorry that you haven't felt the good spirit in you for a long time
Adam Goodword hey bro look, that’s not cool to say those things about a church if the ids church doesn’t say anything about other church’s why say something to the ids church
Ana Silva you’ve been more blessed the more they mocked they more they bless yoh
I can honestly say every Mormon missionary that has ever knocked on my door was good looking. Also, they're incredibly polite, nice people. I work at a store and there are a pair of girl Mormon missionaries that come in and always compliment my makeup or hair.
Marisa Richardson
My mom says the good looks are how we get new members 😂
THEY ALL LOVOK LIKE THAT IN UTAH. THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL AND NICE AND I GREW UP IN WASHINGTON NEAR IDAHO SO THE LITTLE OVER HALF A YEAR I LIVED IN UTAH WAS THE WEIRDEST THING. I was in a major college town....with one bar. I was openly transgender and they went out of their way to get my pronouns correct. Mormons get such a bad rep for how genuinely sweet and nice they are.
Marisa Richardson you heard Keith, it's because we don't drink or smoke (haha I'm joking, they're just beautiful)
@@turtleking7772 Looking at the comments, I started to feel like an awful person for what I believe in. Your comment has made my day and has (sort of) restored my faith in humanity. I don't know if the world will ever be amazing on it's own, but if we have more people like you then I know something good is bound to happen. Sorry if this was annoying. Thanks!
Think of the perks at church with all of those pre-mission Mormons
As a returned missionary, HOW DID YOU GET THIS DOWN SO ACCURATE BUZZFEED? I laughed so hard. I've been in almost all of those situations, and its refreshing to see some tasteful humor about Mormons for once (minus a few inaccuracies and over-exaggerations).
I'm sure there are RMs who work at Buzzfeed that they consulted with
Does the flashing really happen? I've been on temporary missions during the summers with my missionaries and we haven't had a door just slammed on us yet. I guess that's cause we're in a majority Christian area? (Small town in Texas)
Never happened to me but I've heard of it happening to other missionaries. The slamming however was a somewhat frequent occurrence, at least in England.
I think that Keith might be Mormon (?) I wasn't to say I vaguely remembering hearing that in a Try Guys video, but I can't be sure. I also kinda hope they all were for cracking jokes, lol.
Are people seriously this mean to Mormons? Because I would feel horribly sorry for the guys who got sent to NYC and woke up some punk rock chick after a late night. 😄
At 1:09, the guy with the glasses says, "would you like to know about the one true church..." LMAO

@Charles Mendeley they now want to be referred to only as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints instead of Mormons.
Yeah we're members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
We are not Mormons and not followers of him
It's Christ's Restored Church
We as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints want to keep Christ in the name.

i'm an atheist and i always listen. they're goal is to help people. i'm not gonna shut them out, it's what they're passionate about and i would never cut them off from there passion. idk it doesn't hurt to listen, if it makes them feel happier
Ikr. As a Christian, I do think that Christ teaches us to love and respect everyone, no matter what.
I love your attitude
As a returned Mormon Missionary, THANK YOU! I always appreciated kindness, even if the person wasn't interested. I know the missionaries who you listen to appreciate your kindness as well.
Thank you. It really means a lot. I feel like the world would be a much better place if they had the kind of respect you have. It's very nice to know that there are really good people in this world that even though they aren't part of the LDS church, we can still get along, be friends, and things will be well. And native americans are not jews and there is no evidence of jews crossing the ocean with giant boats and having huge civilizations here.
louis tournas a group of about 30 Jews assimilating into Native American populations would make it impossible to find their DNA, also there’s plenty of evidence of an Egyptian presence in the Americas. There’s been Egyptian writing discovered, ancient ruins of pre-Columbian christian churches, and it’s becoming more popular among scientists that middle eastern groups made their way into the Americas.
@Robert Swenson your a joke mate

Hope your feeling better now
I’ve been home for about a year, and this brought back so much memories 😂
My father was from Utah, and went on mission to Russia and married my mother. We still live in Russia, and there both Mormon. However I’m Atheist, like my grandfather. He’s 96, and survived Stalingrad he never needed “ god” and I don’t ether.
You don’t need to believe in god, when you believe in Russia.
A Mormon HAD to have worked on this. scary accurate. laughed so hard I cried.
Idk... they didn't try to bribe anyone with food. That's normally what my ward does.
its the same with my ward if the ym are doing something that seems like it would go really slowly the leaders bring pizza
There's a lack of passive aggressiveness disguised as friendliness but besides that this is pretty damn accurate 😂
If you don't put a ring on it before you get shipped off on a mission 10/10 times you'll come back single and sending a wedding gift to your new ex and her RM husband.
Non-Mormon here. The only Mormon's I've had come to my door have been perfectly sweet. Not pushy and not creepy. One offered to help me move when they noticed I was packing boxes. I didn't accept, of course, but it was still a sweet gesture. I let religious people believe what they want, whether I agree with their beliefs or not. If they don't encroach on me, I don't encroach on them. Or make fun of them for entertainment value.
Shannon Drullinger it was not an act of kindness, they were looking for an opening. sure they're polite- they are salesman and have been trained to be so. obviously, Mormons believe you can catch more flies with honey. in my neighborhood, there was an outreach to young kids with games and candy at the local temple. wonder how Mormons would feel if someone did that with their kids though? ultimately they are not really affording you mutual respect, they're literally at your front door because they've already preconceived that as a non-mormon your beliefs/lifestyle is somehow wrong.
Hey, I'm a Mormon, and right now a huge focus of missionary work is service. And I mean huge. a lot of people won't want to hear our beliefs, and we get that, the least we can do is try to clear up misconceptions and make good impressions by being helpful people.
also I have a gay friend. She's a riot and always the class clown.
The missionaries are really nice. If you aren't interested they won't pester you. They just want to find the people who are interested in learning more.
I love your comment so much! Poking fun at any religion for entertainment value should not be allowed!!
Shannon Drullinger amen to that
As an ex-mormon and former full-time missionary, they got a lot right lol, from the innocence and self perception of the work to the experience of rejection and hecklers. It was a bit weird their calling each other by first names though - you check your first name at the door to the MTC and don't usually hear it aloud for the duration of the two years, except during family phone calls (which at the time I served were only allowed at Christmas and Mother's day; thankfully, that draconian restriction was loosened this year to allow once a week, but it's still unnerving to me that family contact should be limited at all). But yeah, even at home in the apartment they would not call each other "Ezra" or "Zach." It would be "Elder [Last Name]."
Mormons are everywhere, there’s a Mormon near you, I promise. You just don’t know it yet.
I grew up in the Mormon religon because my mother forced it upon me so I know everything about it & honestly I love this. This is great because it’s completely accurate however it doesn’t bash the church. Good job buzz feed. 😂👏

@@Jotari If I remember correctly, isn't missionary work actually illegal in Saudi Arabia?

This is the funniest video! As a former LDS missionary I was honestly scared to watch this, but I am impressed with the accuracy and the cleverness of this video! Thank you for making my day BuzzFeed :)
It's a good thing that you got out of LDS. You are much too pretty to be a plural wife.
LowCostVideo umm I think you have some miss conceptions about the church there is no polygamy inside of the church
Parker Chapman. That is a lie. Officially, there is no polygamy in LDS, but it is still practiced in Utah by some members of the LDS church in secret. I know some people who are products of plural marriages. It seems that you are the one with misconceptions about the church. I'm crystal clear on it.
LowCostVideo Poligamy in all forms is not allowed by any LDS church officials if you are caught you will be excommunicated. That does not mean it does not happen. But it is not allowed by any means. If someone you know claims to be Mormon and practices polygamy they are not members.
Parker, you do not know that of which you speak. I personally know members of LDS who practice polygamy and are still members in good standing in LDS. Yes, wealthy members practice polygamy and live in compounds with a different wife in separate houses on the compound, and the LDS officials know about it, but don't do anything about it, probably because some of the officials themselves are products of plural marriages and because the polygamists give a lot of money to the church. so yes, officially polygamists should be excommunicated, but the officials look the other way and pretend that polygamy is not happening in their church. But it is. and yes, there is corruption within the church, as there is within all religions.
I was once a Mormon missionary and this is one of the most accurate portrayals I've seen. For those Mormons getting offended, this is tame in comparison to stuff like "The Singles Ward" and "The R.M.". Are those somehow less offensive just because they are made by Mormons?
John R actually this wasnt made by mormans....i mean their could of been one or two in the backround but non of the people on screen were....
+Sally-Ann Ward That's what the comment said. This wasn't made by Mormons, but is it more offensive than ones made by Mormons?
this has to be inspired by mormons/ex-missionaries though.. even if the characters were not. The accuracy was on point! headshot
I think there was light mockery in this one, but tbh I was expecting worse from Buzzfeed.

Yeah, many say that the Mormon religion is a cult because they have so many weird differences with other Christian religions. Also, they don't even bare crosses, and they're almost like their own little sub-culture. I mean, they pretty much have their own state, which is Utah, and heck, they even have their own flag.

Lindsey Jackson accuracy is really important to Mormons
RamDaRealist it really is important. Our church is so misrepresented so often, when someone gets it right and isn't being too offensive, it's nice to not feel slightly attacked by people who don't really understand and haven't taken the time to actually learn the truth of our beliefs.
Lindsey Jackson when someone shows you the truth about Mormonism it's not a personal attack on you, rather it's so you can wake up and smell the roses...
RamDaRealist explain to me how you know the "truth" when everything you know about Mormonism probably comes from Wikipedia...
Lindsey Jackson - I like the part where the one guy is like, "Did you propose to her yet?" 'I had a girl and she married a guy that was coming off of his mission'.
.
Last week, the sisters that came over [to clean my kitchen] were talking about their plans for wen they come off of their mission...started talking about getting husbands. Asked them if everyone got married after their missions and they said it wasn't an automatic thing, but it is common. As a Mormon, have you noticed this in your church?
This made me laugh at how accurate it actually is! I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served a mission as well. It wasn't always easy, but it was worth it for me.

i’m going on a mission in a few weeks and this video is sooo funny! missionaries do get hate...i’m ready to face anything. Missionaries are honestly taking 2 years out of their young life to go and serve people and teach people! I hope ppl understand that before slamming the door...maybe just say “hello, sorry i’m *religion* but have a nice day”. super easy and would make me feel a million times better😂
I recently watched The Book of Mormon the Musical and I can’t think of Mormons without thinking of all the songs XD
As a Mormon, It's nice to see a video about us that isn't completely bashing or hating us😂
April Anderson agree! 😂
For real!
April Anderson same
Well it's making u look like lunatics lul.
Mr Homosexual I'm sorry that is how it's making you feel toward us, Mormons. But can you please not call us "lunitics" that it can be hurtful to others who just came here for some entertainment. I do understand you have the *right* to express how you feel, but everyone has feelings. Thank you and have an amazing day! Bye! :)
This might sound really weird but whenever I see a mormon missionary in my town, they always are super hot lol
Imani Khadijah as a Mormon, I agree lol
Imani Khadijah its the Mormon glow, lol
Imani Khadijah hell yeah
Imani Khadijah then you should talk to them😂😂😂😂
im so glad im not the only one who thinks this
I have a missionary in my ward that looks just like the tall guy

I think this was a cute little parody, but there was definitely some inaccuracy. All in all, however, I like that they were able to be funny without bashing the Church. A lot less offensive than The Book of Mormon musical.
Are you still a mormon, or did you read Jeremy Runnels "CES Letter" and quit?
Or type in "Letter to my wife mormon" in google and read that, both contain the same stuff.
This video made me so happy. It's nice to have a big entertainment corporation like buzzfeed have a kind loving view of my church especially when it's more popular to make fun of us. Thank you so so much. I seriously cannot express how much I appreciate this.
wait so the bible is actually a trilogy? and the book of Mormon is Return of the Jedi?!??? I'M INTERESTED.

whyusotupes NO, NO, ELDER CUNNINGHAM, THAT'S NOT HOW WE DO THINGS.....
Elder price? Is that you?
A high school crush went on a mission and I'm receiving the emails he sent out every week as a newsletter, it's so true though.
I'm LDS and I thought this was going to be super offensive but it was super accurate. And funny.
Aurora Osborne same...
Same I clicked on this video ready to be like “that’s not true, oh that’s not true either.” But most of it was surprisingly accurate and funny. It had a similar comedy to the church’s movies like sons of Provo and RM
same
Aurora Osborne same tho
Aurora Osborne me too! Loved it!
I served an LDS mission for 2 full years and loved it! I don't see why everyone thinks this video is offensive, it's hilarious! There is so much of this that is completely relatable and they don't make fun of anything that the church holds sacred, missionaries are goofy kids and do goofy things. I loved this video.
L S because it's funny haha
Mormon here: This was pretty damn accurate, makes me wonder if someone on the BuzzFeed team is a Mormon? or at least used to be. Its nice to see a parody that's funny while not being offensive or just totally shitting on us. lol Good job, got my upvote.
im an exmormon but this was scary accurate and actually kinda made me emotional cause the missionaries really do go through so many hard times and they are very brave. that being said, the church isnt true
why like a spam email that annoy people?
Why did you leave?
@@ROXELL I think she made it clear ... THE CHURCH ISNT TRUE.
The Holy Spirit leads us into truth.... she was lead out of deception.
the church is true but that being said defo feel you only being emotional
@@ROXELL She like I and many others left because of overwhelming evidence that the mormon church "isn't true". Endorphins and crazy emotions are not "confirmations of truth via the Holy Spirit"

Broadway Is The Best YOU MEAN THR MORMN PROPHET JOSEPH SMITH??
Yeah, I 100% believe Keith as a missionary.
I do feel bad for them when they stop by, knowing that every word that comes out of their mouth is spoken in vain. I try to be as polite as possible.
Can't say the same for the Jehovah's witnesses
Christian H thank you for being respectful about it!
It's important to be respectful to us as well.. We go through the same things they do.
I was expecting people to be shouting “hello” and “all-American prophet” and “Orlando” but nope it’s just people talking about Mormons. How boring
As a Mormon who went on a mission I found this pretty funny no offense taken BuzzFeed
I thought more comments would be about the musical but it's just people arguing, ew
Daddy Brie SAME

Yeah we shouldnt use facts and logic when talking about religion, right?

Unrelated question: what was the song they used at the very end? It reminds me of something from Hamilton, but I can't quite put a finger on it.
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
I'm sorry but there were so many The Book of Mormon (musical) references that were too perfect to be accidents...

I am an Ahmadi muslim and some of these things reminds me of Islam. Alcohol, drugs and pre-marital sex are also forbidden in Islam to protect our body and soul from harmful things (coffee and tea are allowed). We don't knock on peoples doors though, we just occasionally have a tabligh stall in inner-city areas (tabligh is basically the islamic word for calling to your faith) for people who want to learn about our faith. Altough we had some campaign where we put flyers into peoples letter boxes which were mainly about promoting a peaceful interpretation of Islam and refuting extremism.
I'm Mormon and I found this pretty hilarious, however doesn't it feel like a double standard when we get "made fun of" and then it's completely not cool to do that towards other religions? I'm not saying that you should go out and make light of others beliefs. I just personally feel that my religion should be treated with as much respect as Muslims, Jews and other Christians :)
Aj J you fall under the category of Christian just like Sunni is a denomination of muslims and Orthodox are a sect of Judaism. it's not that big of a deal
Aj J they literally didn't do any poking fun at all. Like it really just seems like looking in on the life of a missionary. It's actually just like the movie "the best two years"
Don't worry. A lot of people hate them exactly the same. XD
As an atheist, I can assure you that I make equally fun of every religion. Don't worry, every religion gets equally laughed at :) and you are welcome to laugh at me as well! Peace!
Noa Lorenzetti I didn't mean to make it a big deal, haha
i'm mormon and this is funny they did a really good job honestly
Mormons are fucked. in 2006 they arrested one of ur antiprophets for molesting girls and boys for marrying children warren was his name
Antiprophets? We don't have anti prophets in our church.
yes u do joseph smith and brigham young were anti prophets because they were false prophets and so was warren jeffs the man who was convicted of raping 2 children and accussed of dozens more sentenced too life in prisosn parole in 25. nice prophet soinds like a peach, we usually go for the holy ones who bless people, but a phaedophile is nice too
Steven Bakenhester ya me too and their badges look pretty real
warren jets? look it up fds church

I'm a Mormon and I actually found this funny. Most of the things they pointed out in this video are reasons why I haven't gone on a mission, such as people slamming doors in your face and stuff. I am really sensitive and have I social anxiety so that would make it hard for me to go on a mission (even though I'm a girl and it is not required for us to go on one anyway). Time to show this to my four younger sisters and one younger brother lol.
wait so men are actually required to do this ? why only men ? and what happens if they don´t want to do it ?
Meadow Fawn It's not that men are required to do this, it's more that they're strongly encouraged to do so. Women don't get the same push as men do, but are still heavily supported when they decide to go. There is no penalty for not going whether you be boy or girl!
Atheism
Shayla Burkey Most missionaries work on referrals, they usually don't knock on random doors nowadays
Perhaps it's not "required" anymore but when I grew up in a heavily Mormon area of Arizona a Mormon boy on the back of my block was crying all the time to me in my treehouse about how he hated the mission he was going to have to go on in a few years for how he couldn't plan for his life, but that he HAD to go because people got to deal with family- and peer-group exile otherwise. Fun fact, he was ostracized from his entire community anyway, to the point his heart was so broken he struggled with suicidal thoughts for all of high school. His father was abusive and his mother eventually had to shut down family life to protect the kids. My friend confided in me and his mother confided in my mother repeatedly that there was no place for a divorced mormon in the church unless they hadn't started out mormon. The flock seemed to keep their harshest judgements for themselves. At least that's not the most destructive path(since self destruction is at least more conscious and less wonton than actual destruction), but let's not pretend peer pressure isn't a thing, and that some people don't go on the missions because they feel they have no choice. It's nice to hear some people saying they don't perceive it to be as high pressure as it used to be
I was raised Mormon. This is hilarious.
Jack C Honestly, I don't remember enough to form an opinion except that was strange and the people made me feel uncomfortable. Growing up I didn't pay attention to anything religious except for Native American beliefs.
lies and more lies!
Mormons falsely believe they will one day become gods. Lmao
Mormon boys falsely believe they hold the priesthood.
Mormons falsely believe they will control their own little world after this life. LMAO
Mormons falsely believe Joe Smith is a true prophet of god. Of THEIR little weakling god, yes. But not the God of heaven and earth.
Mormons falsely believe Joe Smith died a Martyr. LMAO
We don't believe we will rule our own planets or become rulers, just that we will be like god; perfect and happy.
Sydney Muse we do believe that we can get out own world. After we become exalted. Man is as God once was and man can become as God is
sir hood that's a little insulting considering, based on your message you don't seem to understand lds beliefs
i love how Keith is really trying not to smile or laugh at the very end after the guy says his dad just died lmao
Wow basically everything except the caffeine bit was so accurate! I was not expecting this lol
Hello, my name is elder price, I would like to share with you the most amazing book
Rylee Skirvin I'm Mormon too and I'm pretty sure that the musical is making fun of the Book of Mormon. but I'm not completely sure, I haven't really looked into it
It pokes fun at Mormonism, but imho it's pretty good-natured. Just keep in mind that "gentle" is not a word that can easily be associated with the writers, so if you're expecting a reverent musical, it's probably not for you. If you like South Park, and or some of the movies that Parker and Stone have made, and that type of humor where everything is on the table and nothing is immune to teasing, you'll love it. Keep in mind (if you're not already aware) that Parker and Stone are all about equal opportunity criticism & don't care in the slightest if someone else considers something sacred/special, if they find humor in it, they'll poke fun at it. They killed off a long-term character from South Park over this when the actor got upset that their eye fell on Scientology and he didn't like what they had to say about it. They really did their homework and while they got a few things wrong, but over all they really hit the mark. I didn't walk away feeling like they were intentionally malicious, but it's not for everyone. I have Mormon friends who thought it was one of the most hilarious things they've ever seen and Mormon friends who were just flat-out offended that anyone would make that type of jokes concerning their religion. Your mileage will vary. I personally love it, but I'm not Mormon, and really like the "Nothing is sacred, everything is subject to criticism. Everything." style of humor that South Park often employs. I didn't walk away feeling like they were unfair or malicious in their approach. They seem to really just love how ripe for humor the bright-eyed, bushy-tailed, unsinkable rubber duck optimism mixed with sheltered innocence that missionaries often tend to exude is when it contrasts with some of the harshest realities the world has to offer.
That being said it's a lot of fun and takes full advantage of the layered and often surprisingly complex and well-examined style that Stone & Parker have. If you like their other work and can take a joke, you'll probably love it.

Hello my name is elder grant
It's a book about America a long, long time ago
I am LDS, and this was very funny. It is like the missionary version of the office. Mormons in general do go through a lot a lot of hate, and I can't imagine what missionaries face. We do have a very supportive LGBTQ policy, and are getting better at that as time is going on. Its a learning curve. We can have caffeine. My Father did pass away when my brother was on his mission, and he chose to stay. Our knowledge about death and knowing that my Dad is still with us made him realize he would come home just to put up with me. So he wisely chose to stay with the family and friends he had out there for support.
religious people in general catch a lot flak nowadays. and its usually from the same people who claim to be the ones who are oppressed..
The wonderful thing is that the church has a dedicated site to being Mormon and gay! It's this address if you are interested(: mormonandgay.lds.org/
Ashlynne Gallegos
I love that part of LDS.org... I'm bisexual and LDS, and hearing others stories helped me realize how much support I have.
What does bother me now is when people outside of the Church hear that I'm bisexual, a lot of times they assume I was raised in the Church and I want to leave but my parents won't let me, and everyone who knows about my sexuality hates me... Aaaannndddd none of it is true.
I'm queer and transgender and I'm not Mormon, but a huge number of my classmates were and they seemed pretty cool. And they didn't really fit any of the stereotypes. One of them was the basis in the school rock band and wore rainbow suspenders. Another was one of my musical theatre friends who used to use some pretty heavy substances (she converted when she started dating the bass player but stayed in the religion even after they broke up). One of my closest friends was also Mormon and I went with him and his family to church one of the days. I felt really weird at it because the sermon was all "masturbation is evil" (like I never actually realized how explicitly that stuff was talked about as evil in some churches?) but mainly I just felt weird and dysphoric about showing up in a skirt.
Nowadays the friends I had who grew up religious have generally either left it and dismissed it as being toxic for them personally (I think it's just that they mainly needed to have time outside the religions to come to terms with themselves) or have found some other religion. It's pretty wild I think how many lgbt+ end up converting to something. I've kind of gone that spiritual exploration route myself but I'm not at a conclusion with it.
I think there's an extreme amount of colonial violence that comes with missionaries but that's not unique to the Mormon church at all and I know a lot of atheists with similar colonial ideas that their beliefs are superior. And I think the going door to door and answering questions thing is really not invasive and not remotely the same as like, Residential Schools etc.
I was mormon, I am Gay and GenderFluid I am sorry to say no you do not have supportive LGBTQIA+ policy. I love the Church and all the truth you have but you don't support the LGBTQIA+ you don't bully us but you don't support us. Support is to be equal to be like any other members since we share the same faith in the same God. We are not equal to you in the Church we are not. Please don't come with supportive policy, just say that the LDS accept the fact that people can be gay but also help them to Change to "normal" life.
2:10 "do you feel the spirit now?" lmao
