I'm a progressive and we are flying the flag for Memorial Day weekend for those who died fighting for this country. We have an ancestor who died at Gettysburg. I of course think of all the young people who perished, especially after watching many excellent documentaries and all of the wars during the last 200 years. I do feel that Republicans have taken over the American Flag. I think it may make some feel flying the Stars and Stripes may represent nationalism. We are keeping our eye on the focus of the holiday and will fly the flag all summer.
I totally agree with Mayor Adams statement. That only did my husband serve a country and I had many uncles who were in World War II that were proud to serve our nation. My husband and I and all our family members are proud to be Americans.
I am center-left and I totally agreed with Mayor Adams’ statement.
Perhaps Mr and Mrs Alito together with Mr and Mrs C Thomas, should take a place in the food bank volunteer line and see what life is like for real people. Let their billionaire benefactors pay their way and get off our tax dime. How stupid do these rich bigots think we are?

Honestly I have felt like this for over 20 years...somewhere along the way patriotism and honoring the flag became a sappy, almost idolatrous practice and eventually associated with, well, the types of people you discussed here. I lean center-right but have felt very isolated from people I used to heartily agree with, and have expressed for over a decade how I wish I could be patriotic like Canada and not have it be weird, lol. Time to reclaim the flag as a proper, bipartisan symbol of freedom and sacrifice 🙂🇺🇸
Yes, it has. I flew it upside down when Trump was elected and we can see I was correct even to this day.

Its true that the right is more affiliated with the stars and stripes. I used to fly my flags on major US holidays now I only do it during the Olympics. But I go all out. LED flag Lights in the windows and the flag of the sports I fallow. Do you know anyone with a US soccer flag? Maybe you do. Now how about a US Surfing flag? Or US skateboarding? Or US Freestyle BMX? I had them made in china but I fly them proudly during the Olympics. I am the extreme sports version of a trump fans house, the one who has all the Lets go Brandon and the one with the Trumps face on the Rambo. Olympic fervor year round for me but the flags go up only during the games at my house now days. Olympic fever Mike, catch it!
No question who/what is supported when you see a flag flying at a house.
Ours is the only flag in a lib neighborhood full of doctors, lawyers and professors.
