There is nothing more reassuring than being on a boat/sailboat having remodel and reconstructed throughout. And to go through the process with the one you love and reap all your hard labour, together, that is truly a blessing.
I helped my father tear out and replace an entire transom on a 1970'ish model 20' Grady White at the age of 7. Im 44 now and thanks to many sailors such as yourselves I have set a goal to be sailing in 3 years. Thank you for taking the time to share the journey.

@@SailingMagicCarpet The reasons for "we gonna need a bigger boat!" are manifold. Could be the speed a longer boat will give You, the better provisioning/water-making/overall-living enabled with more space, standing headroom throughout and a place for the heater, the cloning-in-progress lovely couples tend to start at one point, or even a bloody fish once in a while ....

That song was a real treat and so beautiful and If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes I'd have thought is was trio of musicians playing together. Excellent point on sandpaper. I was involved in an aluminum schooner project where excellent welders using proper technique and materials were producing high porosity failed welds. The expert we hired was stumped until he had a prep grinding disk stick to his boot heel. When he removed it he realized that it was for steel prep and the binding glue used was causing the porosity! Details matter. Congrats on moving from "de" to "con" struction!

I find it impressive each time after any decision to replace pieces or parts, how much of a fight the rotten pieces still put up nonetheless, before You hold the finally removed shards in hands. So, even with rotten, tired parts visibly holding together "for tradition" only, that "tradition" turns out as an astonishing strong bond most of the times.

I can't tell you two how much I enjoy and look forward to your videos. It's a joy to watch a young couple who are dedicated to each other and to their project. It takes people who are emotionally mature and who respect and care for one another, in order to work together in such close proximity for essentially an unknown length of time. Ha! There are not a great many couples who can do that even when their relationship is a loving and a committed one. My parents were able to work together in a similar way which was lovely to witness. So thank you for allowing us to witness your journey together. Keep doing what you're doing because it appears to be working very well.

Dont forget to take pictures of construction for surveyor and insurance company of the work done, if going that route, boat yard where the boat will be set in the water should give a couple days on the hard to put on stanchions, set the mast and rigging, and get hull survey, then when in the water, they should have a place for you to tie up to do engine checks before leaving the area, talk to them to make sure in advance, and any new work always needs to be sent to insurance along with maintenance records, with pictures and records they are aware of its condition and will extend the time before another survey is demanded, and may keep them from denying next policy renewal, talk to them and send in yearly hours sailed and experience. just a thought

So true about good sand paper. Some of the cheap stuff clogs in seconds and is basically useless after 2-3 minutes. We have been using open weave pads recently from Bosch on our Makita BO6030 this is a great combination. Variable speed random orbit. Industrial rated at 100% duty cycle and pads that do not clog or wear. If you get a chance check out these pads and this machine. Well worth the investment. It will be worth it later when you get into the serious sanding! Sail Safe Guys, Ant, Cid & the pooch crew.

I have watched a lot of boat restoration videos and it is interesting to see the difference between a talented DIY'er and a professional. You are spending so much more time on investigation experimentation creating jigs trying different methods to see what works best measuring not twice but half a dozen times creating multiple drawings and plans.
I would say that your approach in the end saves time and money as you do not have to go back and redo your work plus you find the quickest and easiest method to get the job done and of course it is to the best possible standard.
