    Congrats to the designer! He's creating a persistent remotely monitored human ant colony.
    Those of us old enough to remember owning the popular "toy" in the 70's get the concept. Essentially is tall clear rectangle, built with a cpl of pieces of clear plastic, an inch wide and around a foot square, able to see the colony of ants trapped inside build tunnels, live out their confined lives fully dependent (unbeknownst to them) on the owner to feed, water and keep their artificial biome upright, out of excessive temps and sunlight. If an owner loses interest and neglects to tend to the farm, the ants all die. No big deal, ants' lives are not relevant, right? The ants in the colony might feel differently about that. Science experiments reveal they do feel pain, stress and panic fight to protect their queen with no regard for their own deaths in such instances of protecting the hive.
    How are Saudis going to defend it against their Iranian and other nation state enemies??? Drone attacks are all the rage in remote warfare. It will be 5 warfighter and fireman's nightmare to protect. Destroying it would be analogous to the attack on the World Trade Centers here in the USA. It's likely one of their enemies are already plotting on how to knock the Saudi house of cards down. I pray this doesn't happen, but war among Arab states seems perpetual.
    The largest positive aspect of this project from my vantage point, is this will be an excellent terrestrial experiment to see how humans could potentially colonize Mars. Are they going to be forced to stay within it's confines like West World, Logan's Run?

Has anyone sat down and worked out the financials on this? Also skyscrapers cannot be built everywhere. It depends on the bedrock. That is why in New York you only see skyscrapers in certain parts of town. Have they actually done a review on all 340 kms to see if they can actually build what they want there? I get a feeling that they haven't. It feels kind of ridiculous. They have all these ideas but no real plans of how they will work in reality. Not having cars is a nice idea. That is it. There are always quotes about going from end to end in 20 minutes. This is obviously based on hyper loop (doesn't yet exist) and going from end to end without stopping. This claim can so easily be refuted. What is their answer to this? Or has nobody dared to say that this will not work. The whole thing seems childish. It will never get very far in development and will waste a huge amount of money. Sad to see.

    Neom would have a much better location than similar projects like Dubai, Kuwait, Doha, or any historical cities on the Arabian Peninsula, but it's very unlikely that Saudi Arabia will succeed with it, considering that their oil is about to end soon, and there will be no money for such enormous investments, so they should have started the construction decades ago, and now focus on cities like Jidda, or maybe Dammam, instead of such risky projects.

    Great video, but this project seems incredibly stupid to me for the following reasons:
    1. Why a line and not a circle or some other shape? Transportation systems might be fast but one end of the city is still 170km from the other end.
    2. Why mirror glass? A giant mirror running through the desert is the most idiotic thing I've heard, all wildlife will scorch to death around the line, not to mention how it tampers with migrational patterns. This wouldn't bother me so much if being "eco friendly" wasn't such a big selling point of their campaign.
    3. One badly managed fire and you'll have hundreds of people losing their home.
    4. At this point we can all agree that only poor people working on services will live at the bottom of the line.
    5. What about sandstorms? This thing doesn't seem to have a roof.

      From what's been reported, the artificial moon may serve at least a few functions. 1 - to light NEOM at night (perhaps when the weather is overcast), 2 - as a potential surveillance system equipped with cameras, facial recognition sensors, etc., and 3 - as a bit of PR stunt to generate interest in the project (people hear artificial moon and they're interested).

    • @trailblazedHQ
      @trailblazedHQ  Před 2 lety

      You're not the first to say this. Genuine question: why do you think it's a bad idea? A central transit running through the entire line and all key services would be within walking distance doesn't seem like a terrible idea. Thanks for commenting!

    • @c.verner6001
      @c.verner6001 Před 2 lety +1

      @@trailblazedHQ The linearity seems like a sole poster feature to attract buzz without any practicality for an actual city causing the designers having to deal with costly unneeded problems they forced upon themselves in the first place. A central transit for a million people city like displayed in the animations sounds like a terrible idea, there will be no redundancy. It's rather usual for urban public transport lines to stop temporarily because of holdups like passengers requiring medical attention, mechanical problems or even longer durations for necessary maintenance/repairs, let alone an actual serious breakdown of a segment. Such an event would just cut a linear city in two each time, whereas a normal city will usually offer multiple alternatives to circumvent such currently inaccessible spots.
      The whole "20 minutes to each destination" pitch seems equally infeasible. A high speed maglev train won't be able to stop very frequently to let passengers board and leave or it won't be much faster than a usual metro system and take forever to cover the full 170 kilometers, requiring people to switch to some light-rail system with more frequent stops to reach their end destination instead. Which is again an unnecessary problem solely caused by the idea of drawing out a single city over a huge distance.
      It's also more efficient to centralize specialized features / buildings, e.g. hospitals, universities, cultural institutions like museums and so on, you can't just economically build a full or miniature version of them in each line segment to be in walkable distance. But the linear nature of this project will again cause much larger distances on average to such buildings than in a non-linear city.

    I am not interested in smart city or any smart system unless you develop and control it. There are many countries recently including my country plan on developing new and smart city. The problem is at least 90% of A.I research and tech industry are based in usa, and the govt of usa still dont have complete law regarding privacy and cyber security issues. Only american govt who feel intimidated and suspicious with technology and A.I developed in other countries, which means something: they are the only ones who know the risk. I think it would have been wiser for MBS to invest in the research of technology that is based and developed in middle east first before spending that cash

    Saudi, if you want to be inovative, dont try to make another tourist attractiong. Tourism is not the future. Dont build the line project... Build a modern city without personal vehicles and without detached housing, but dont build that that wall. It just makes you look like tryhard wannbes. If you want to be inovative you should focus on making the the job easier, more efficient and safer for the constructionworkers. You should also focus on making the job more efficient and simpler for the engeneers by stremling the production. Make one good housingblock and that can be but up fast and renewed esily and build it on the rails. But dont build that 500m tall wall. You have more space.
