- This wonderful 1924 Kodak Box Brownie2 was bought last week for around £5, with shipping included!
The film winder was seized, the shutter had captured its last frame long ago, and the lens and glass viewing screens were filthy.
After a little TLC of oiling, cleaning, and more cleaning, it was, I hoped, ready to shoot. I loaded a roll of Ilford HP5 into it and went for a wander to test it out.
I'm genuinely thrilled with the results, and I feel more testing and cleaning is needed, but a hundred years later, this little marvel of photography is back up and running again.

Beautiful.
Love and blessings!
In its day cameras like this brought the simple joy of photography to millions. Nice to see it back in action after a bit of TLC. My simplest camera was also made of cardboard, a shoe box with a pin hole in a patch of tin foil at the front. Not great for action shots, though, as the exposure time was 10 minutes.
You’re absolutely right. Orson Welles said that, “the enemy of art is the absence of limitations” and using this Box Brownie nails that statement. For the price of a coffee and cake
I’ve got myself a camera that continues to capture the world a hundred years after it was made. Thank you for taking time to comment.
Amazing!!!
Lovely images - I especially like the first cloud shot
Thank you - I thoroughly enjoy your videos too.
@@samatkinsphotography I appreciate it man
These cameras are so fun! You got some good images out of it, too. I have a brownie six-20 waiting for me to shoot it :)
