- On May 9th 2024 CPKC's Final Spike Steam Tour made its way across the state of Illinois with "The Empress" CPR 2816 Steam locomotive leading.

Nice video! Noticed it seemed to be using the 6 chime whistle more on this leg of the trip.
I was told they use the 6 chime at slow speeds only because it can't be heard as well when at speed.

@@MidwesternRailfan I thought that to but it turns out I was giving a heads up that it was going be coming up to KC on the 11th but will be on display at KC Union Station on the 18th

@@MidwesternRailfan ill be trackside for most of the day in Chillicothe tomorrow evening tho the train isn't expecting to arrive until sometime after Lunch Because of the service stop at Ottauwa, IA that will be from 12:30 - 12:50

I am surprised at the sparse crowds. This is an extremely rare event!
Trust me, they were out in the hundreds today, you haven't live until you see 50+ people run down a steep hill to their vehicle and almost fall in the process

Sure would've loved to see 2816 during this tour, but I can't due to my schedule. At least I'll get a chance to see 4014 when she returns to California 2 months from now. Still, great video nonetheless.
