Ahh- one of the best gems I accidentally stumbled upon on CZcams.
I stumbled upon this 2 or 3 years back when I was searching for another song - "What's On Your Mind" by Information Society. I had a mental lapse, forgot the real title of that song, & typed in "Pure Energy" (something you hear throughout that song) - & somehow this gem came up!
There are several vids of this song up on YT, but this vid is my fave b/c of the elements of NYC dance culture, & NYC locales - that are shown.
Another reason I was able to connect to this song so well is b/c - once I heard it - I actually remembered it from a jazz-dance class I took in the summer of 1985. I had no idea who sang it, but the teacher would put this song on all the time. (It might have been a remixed version.) Hearing this song for the 1st time in many years brought back some nice memories.
That dance class was my only exposure to this song - b/c I sure didn't hear this on the radio or on TV down here (Atlanta).
Another thing I like about this vid is - in addition to it offering an authentic look at New York (down the the very brisk, very "New York" way the young men and women are walking at the beginning of the vid - lol) - it features Asians. When you think of New York, you often think of blacks (including "ethnic" blacks like Jamaicans & Haitians), Latinos, Italians, Jews, the Irish....but Asians are a relatively "forgotten" ethnicity of NY.
This vid reminds you of NYC's Asian presence.

@DjDedan unique is a clothing store on broadway - sorry if it wasn't clear... it also looks like they filmed in the world famous FUNHOUSE... this is a historic vid, the dancers are on point and it has some landmark locations of the era that are now, unfortunately, long gone.
@retrorhythms no problem! that just brought back high school memories lol! Plus i think there aren't really any breakdancers in the vid, there are lockers, lofters and those kick dancers (which i think was the popular style at the fun house)... some of the camera angles could have got more of the lofters footwork but oh well... some serious archival footage here!
ha! it's UNIQUE at the start! Do they go to CANAL JEANS AS WELL!?!?!? ah memories. i used to go there every week after school
hmm some good locking and lofting in this vid...
I still have over 100 episodes of Hot Tracks on VHS, including this episode.
However, this video does nothing for me, and the guy in the video needs some new hats!
