The Ents are perhaps the saddest and most angry of all the free peoples. However even with all they endured even when the dam broke and they began their last march even then they were not hasty in their persuit and treebeard had a lot to do with all of that. His song was indeed the song of fangorn.

@@mitcharcher7528 indeed my friend. Never had a race in middle earth suffered so much and yet did not act in haste or anger. Instead they held a long and slow council and rarely marched to war (though they did take part in some key battles during the events of the silmarilian). They are by nature a compassionate and nurturing race.

Treebeard would honestly be the kind of guy to crack open a cold beer with and just chat with him on a cool spring day.
Though it does make me wonder what an Ent of the Amazon Rainforest would look like.

I was Infantry for 27 years, 4 of which was in Panama where I spent about 9 months of the year in the jungle living out of my rucksack. Hard as hell at times and just astoundingly incredible and humble almost always. Amazon Treebeard: Roots stretching well above ground without deep root systems, triple canopy with a lot of life living in his hair so to speak. Host to many species, not just bark and wood. Chilled out as he provides shade from triple canopy (it would drop at least 10F when we got under canopy). Scoffs at technology. You would watch a patrol walk into the treeline from the DZ/LZ and lose radio contact in seconds. Tech just doesn't work in there.
Have a great day. LOL Amazon Treebeard. Or is it Tree Beered? I am going with the latter.

Though Isengard be strong and hard, as cold as stone and bare as bone,
    We go, we go, we go to war, to hew the stone and break the door;

I think Tom Bombadil must be _much_ older than Treebeard. Tom was there before the first drop of rain or the first acorn fell. He was there before Melkor came to Arda (which would make him older, in one sense, than the Ainur). Treebeard was old, but not older than that.

Hi 😀 I think Tom says he was there before Melkor descendes from outside to Arda, I understand this to be the instance when Melkor left the void beyond Earth to attack the two lamps 🤔 He was not the Dark Lord yet when he entered Ea (which is the universe that contains Arda) and some of the wording between Tom's account and the description of Melkor's attack is similar.
Anyway, I agree that Tom should be older than Fangorn, as it seems that Tom saw the first plants grow. But it may be that they spent the same amount of time in Middle-Earth, as this continent was formed after Melkor's assault I mentioned earlier.

It was actually really clever to change the "Old Willow" encounter from happening in the Old Forest in "The Fellowship" to happening in Fangorn in "The Two Towers" and therefore changing Tom Bombadil to Treebeard being the one to save them.
This way Peter Jackson was able to keep the entire encounter without having to introduce beloved yet distracting Tom Bombadil. Even tho I personally would have kept the Barrow Whites sequence and only give a hint to what or who might have saved the 3 Hobbits. I faint "and his boots are yeloooww" in the distance or something

@@timonsolus When Telperion and Laurelin were destroyed by Melkor and Ungoliant, Yavanna stated that there were things she could create only once in Arda. Perhaps the Ents and Ent wives were one of such things? When you consider Galadriel's prophecy that she and Treebeard would not meet again until the lands were remade, it seems so.

Remember, only you can prevent forest fires. "No," Treebeard would say. "Fire is how the forests renew themselves. All forest must burn every five to seven years years. Harmless ground fires, When they're kept small forest fires do not harm the trees such as myself. Tend the wild fires well and lite them in the spring of the year, or in the fall, when it's safe."

I think they were created before, as the Dwarves were, but were likely not allowed to awaken until after the Elves, since they were a reaction to the Dwarves but it was Eru's will that the Elves awaken first.

@@MenoftheWest I don’t agree here. The Ents aren’t counted as one of the ‘races’ of Middle Earth… elves, dwarves, and men. They are guardians, as were the great eagles. The text as I read it have the Ents rising before the elves (“‘Ere Elf sang or hammer rang”).

@@Enerdhil The Elves are the eldest “children of Iluvatar. “ That’s a title in Tolkien’s world, and they’re often spoken of in that manner in the Silmarillion. It speaks to their relationship to the other children, dwarves and men.
'It is not wizardry, but a power far older,' said Gandalf: 'a power that walked the earth, ere elf sang or hammer rang. Ere iron was found or tree was hewn, When young was mountain under moon; Ere ring was made, or wrought was woe, It walked the forests long ago. '
Before elves sang is old indeed. :-) Additionally Celeborn addresses Fangorn as “Eldest.” It’s only fan speculation, to my knowledge, but Cirdan the Shipwright may have awakened at Cuiviénen.

@@ms.debourghofrosings6829 While I agree the texts are contradictory between Treebeard's hymn and Gandalf's comments, keep in mind when the elves awoke they did not immediately know how to write words or sing - the first language was developed by Elves well after their initial awakening. It could be both are correct - before elves sang (but after they had awoken) the Ents were awoken.
