Jetty Fishing Tips: How To Fish A Jetty For More Strikes

- It’s jetty fishing time!
One of the most popular questions we get asked is, how can I catch fish from shore?
Jetties are excellent options if you’re asking that same question, and in this video, we’ll show you the best spots to catch fish from a jetty no matter where you live, or which jetty you’re fishing.
Here’s the problem: just because there’s a jetty sticking out in the water, doesn’t mean that fish are evenly spread out around it, waiting for you to throw your lure at them.
Based on the tide, structure and shape of the jetty, and the land surrounding it, certain areas around the jetty will hold more fish than others.
Want to learn how to identify those spots?

Looked up tips for jetty fishing, turns out this is my exact local jetty 😂
🤣🤣🤣
What it called
Great tips there but i think one of the coolest things are seeing the kids out fishing. 👍
I agree. I couldn't stop talking to the kids (as you can see in the video. AND they were very good fishermen, and very concerned about returning the fish to the water unharmed.
Great job on breaking things down for us!
I fish south Jersey, so love the local aspect! Thanks for the great tutorial!
Appreciate the lesson and you coming to the mid Atlantic, thanks!
Thanks for the info 👊🏽
Excellent overview, Sir. Thank you.
Rich,
I recently joined Salt Strong Insiders. I found this video. This jetty is one of my staple spots.
Next time you hit this jetty target Tautog. I crush them on the 8th street jetty. Sand fleas for bait.
Also, Tautog, in my opinion are the tastiest inshore species for this area.
Tight lines!!
I’ve fished 8th St Jetty many many times. I’m from Absecon and I hop in and out of 8th St Jetty, to T Jetty in AC, to the Longport Point, to Brigantine Bridge, and it’s awesome the fishing we have around here. Tautog off the bridge at Avalon is killer to. Great vid. Come down again soon . Hit up all of South Jersey shores
I should be back down in 2 weeks. Not sure exactly where I'll be, but it will be south Jersey for sure.
Catching those snapper blues is always fun! Great vid 👍🏻
Thanks Lovin House. It's a fun way to spend a few hours for sure!
I know this location! I’ll be there today actually
Nice video great breakdown
Thanks Pablo.
So does this apply when fishing the north side jetties ? Or do you do the opposite when the water goes south ?
Nice
Hey guys can you do a review on the Penn Slammer 3 I have had some since 2016 what bothers me at the very end of the pinion gear at the back inside the housing there is no bushing or anyting to support the pinion gear when it is under a load
holy moly this is informative
Thanks Kyle. I'm hoping it helps some people be more productive on the water.
hello, can you describe your rig set up here for jetty fishing? thanks
Diagrams for the win, mate. Yes.
Hi, I am watching your videos and very much enjoying learning and moving forward. I wanted to ask about your explanation of the moon, the new moon has stronger currents compared to the full moon? And if so, why? Is the tide higher on the full moon and lower on the new moon? If you can explain it would be very helpful - thank you very much !!!
Happy to explain what I meant...the new and full moon both typically generate stronger tidal flow (and higher/lower tides). While they may differ slightly, any difference would be negligible. With all else being equal, the new and full moons should produce similar conditions in flow.
@@FatDadFishing Really appreciate, thanks for explaining, after each of your professional videos I feel progress - well done for the investment !!!
Once I saw the thumbnail drawn up like a football play I knew we were getting serious.
How can you get a visual map of what structure looks like at jetties?
In the Smart Fishing Spots App!
thx for your ideas, can you recommend a good lure to catch in Maine? from jetty?
Thanks for the question. Please check out the full blog post on our website and post your question there. That way, our coaching team can respond back directly with their recommendations. You can find that here: bit.ly/2ojnjdS
I use a 7ft crowder eseries 12-20 with a shimano baitrunner 4500B..with 50 lb braid and 60lb. Liter..i normally use 30lb. Braid with 50 lb. Liter..wanted to switch it up...thoughts ?....i live in Florida
You could likely get away with lighter line but that is a great setup for fishing Jetties, Piers, etc.!
May I ask what type of bait you used? Am going there this Sunday.
Alex Jimenez I’m a little late but in his video he used a bucktail without any plastic trailer
What are you using for bait, what reel and size reel are you using, line size and rod length? Thanks.
In this video I started using a 1 oz bucktail topped with a 3" Slam Shady Paddletail. The paddletail was destroyed very quickly so I switched to tossing only a naked bucktail. So....no bait. As for the rod, in this video its a custom graphite 7' rod with a Penn 550ss reel. The line is 12lb test Sufix mono.
I wish the jetties In dauphin island were flat at the top. We damn near break an ankle trying to walk on uneven rocks that maybe slippery.
What’s the best rod and reel combo?
I just get one from Walmart, this is just for anyone else that sees this, or go to academy and get a good 15 lb or so rod. Put some 20lb line on it and you’ll catch some big ass fish
What is ur setup for the jetties?
10 to 12 ft rod 5-30 lbs

How will these tips work for westcoast jetties?
I’m thinking it is the same just not, upside down...what I mean is that incoming tides on the west coast come in from the north moving south...I believe (someone correct me if I’m wrong) . If you just apply what he said by flip flopping north and south you’ll see the same patterns gone over in this video.
@@brantmerrill9099 you’re exactly right according to this article
Good looking out for that younger fisher.
Of course!
How’s that jetty this time of year?
if there werent kids fishing in that spot what would be your number 1 spot you would target
I'm the one that made the video. I would have still fished that spot, but would have been just a bit closer in toward shore to take advantage of the additional structure that was right where the waves were breaking.
@@FatDadFishing ah ok
Flounder?
The jetty sets up very nicely for flounder. 2 weeks later I fished the same jetty (different spot on it due to much different conditions) and caught 3 flounder to 15.5".
If its Jersey its Fluke, unless you are a backwoods piney 😂🤣
@@bunka-boydrew2874 Fluke in north Jersey, Flounder in south jersey
@@FatDadFishingalways thought northerners call em Fluke ir door mats ! Down here in Florida we call em Flounder..lol

But the water actually looks like going out instead of going in.
It may appear that way on the surface but underneath the current is sweeping the other way!
I think you meant to say the fish is not worth it but instead you told the kid leave it your life is not worth it. lol
California Bay Area jetties are traaash. The east coast is better
I agree!
Just is fish. Terrible attitude. Take better care of them please.
