Amen! This is also why Christianity was spread by the Word and Islam was spread by the sword

As a Greek and Greek Orthodox Christian. Sam is right in Roman Empire's era Greek language is the lingua franca. In the area around Mediterranean from Magna Craecia to Dekapolis, Militus in the era of Roman Empire we will find many cities with Greek names. Also the Greek language has mathematic structure. By that I mean that the Greek language follow mathematic equizitions like 1x1x1=1 as for the logical thinking as Aristotle wrote for example the letter A =A always. And Sam is write the message of the Gospel which in Greek is Ευαγγέλιο Euaggelion in English is better translated with Good News.

There's a respectable theory that Jesus Himself may have spoken Greek a lot when He was preaching, because many of His listeners would not have understood Aramaic.

I would assume He would speak in tongues in the way Apostles in Acts did!

Would it be more likely that the Jews would understand Hebrew rather than Aramaic?

Amen! This also shows how God used other languages (such as English) to preserve his word even further. You can see throughout history how God was working, as the scriptures moved further west to eventually go into print.

And yet it's silly to think about. Matthew was hearing Jesus talk in Aramaic, and he would write in Greek? Translating takes time, it's not that quick.

When you write six hundred three score and six in Greek, does it look like something also written in Arabic?
