  • One of the best ways to progress is by learning from your mistakes. I can replicate some of these mistakes, but real mistakes are better. So we'll review some videos from my students to see what they can improve!

    Great, Great instruction video. This so unbelievably informative. Seeing the average Joe trying tricks while you comment on them is often way easier to see how to improve than seeing how a pro does it. The way you do this format is perfect. You show their vid comparing how you do it is massive. Thanks for this

    It looks like dave‘s board 2:50 was perpendicular to the moving direction because he tried to give way to Kalie 😊

    Great video Steven, it helps allot to see other making mistakes which helps anyone who is learning. I am 90kg and got up to 11,8m on flat water on the IJsselmeer. Some sessions I get the timing better then others. I get consistently up to 9-10m(even last week on monday when it was 40+ knots on my 7m) but I would love to hit 15m someday, or at least progress a bit more.

    • @stevenakkersdijk
      @stevenakkersdijk  Před 11 měsíci

      Nice work! Keep on trying and reflect on your jumps. It also helps if someone is able to film you so you can see your own timing.
      Keep on shredding 🤙

      @@stevenakkersdijkThank you for your reply Steven. I will try and get someone to film me when jumping. 15m should be achievable with enough wind and the right technique. I can feel it when the timing is just right when I pop off the water, now I just need to improve....

    Chief! Can you please make some videos about the new line of surfboards. The way you did previously. For the love of the brand, give us a bit more info about the new product - more particularly interested in the Badger! Thank you in advance ma man! Much love from Toronto.

    to me, jumping , very often happen two type of things, or I can't take the kite to the zenith because make me loose the board edge or this happen when I sheet in, I can't understand if I'm too much over powered or if there are other reasons, I edge pretty well anyway

    • @stevenakkersdijk
      @stevenakkersdijk  Před 11 měsíci +1

      There is a chance that you steer your kite up to hard and maybe from too low in the wind window. This creates a lot of pull forward which makes it hard to carve and hold your edge. Steer the kite slower to 12 along the edge of the wind window.
      The perfect jump tutorial video might help you

    Great video instruction, Steven. You’re kinda good at this teaching thing! I have a question. What’s the difference between a classic jump and a forward send jump? Don’t you have to send your kite down through the power zone to ride away downwind? I’m not just being a jerk. I’m a kiter who only cares about jumping and who after 12 years of ugly jumping is pretty discouraged. Thanks for your help. PS. I’m a 71 year old Dutchman and I can’t load and pop either.

    • @stevenakkersdijk
      @stevenakkersdijk  Před 11 měsíci

      But you're still doing it and probably having a lot of fun, that's the most important in my eyes!
      Have a look at the video from the forward send jump and you'll see the difference. There is an extra kite steering move needed at the apex of the jump.
      Keep on kiting, it's awesome that you're still out there

    Hey! I'm currently using a 135 cm Imperator and sometimes I feel that can't lock the eade to carve sharp when pop. I tried Fusion 135 and like it more grip. For 185cm 75kg what size Fusion should i get? 133 135 137 139? What are the benefits of board size in the last 2 metres of water contact(just before take off)? What board size will get me faster a 2m spray of water just before take off? Should I get 2 board? PS I don't get the to opportunity to test in different board sizes 😢

    • @stevenakkersdijk
      @stevenakkersdijk  Před 10 měsíci

      Always hard to know what board size to get when you can't test out boards. I think you could go for a 137 if you're often riding in lighter wind conditions (around 20 knots) If you're more often riding in stronger wind conditions (30+) you can downsize to a 135 for increased grip. The Fusion provides slightly more grip than the carved when you're weight is not in the right spot, so it's easier to carve the board upwind.
      On smaller boards it will be easier to keep it on an edge as they're also less wide, but the weight positioning becomes more important (front and backfoot pressure). Same goes for the landings.
      I'm 196cm, 86kg and ride a 139 fusion.
