    This Pedal is seriously "Pedal to the Metal". It does it's job as an aggressive metal well, but somehow it still did not win my heart like the other pedals did. The Boost function seems useless. On the other hand, if you need a metal sound and only have thirty bucks, this is the one for you !!!

    I am pretty sure it is great for Thrash Metal. Don't hollow out the mids too much, kinda leave it in the middle and you should have a very aggressive sound. If you use the Boost just a bit it might also give you what you need. For the price you really cannot go wrong.

    BTW, Henning, I do that 'Metal' screech at home and it drives my wife crazy. I do it everywhere; in the shower, in bed when I'm reading, when I'm practicing (guitar obviously), at work, when I'm shopping, at dinner, on the toilet (it helps) and anywhere else where I deem appropriate.... 'Metallllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!' Can you hear me screeching all the way from Australia?

    Best $30 pedal I ever bought. Sounds way better than a lot of distortion devices that cost much more. We shall see if it breaks down and craps out but the case is very solid (unlike Behringer pedals). The boost is high-mid presence contour that works great for some amps. I am playing my solid state Ampeg VH140C, a 2-channel amp with spring reverb, stereo chorus and the most metal distortion of any 90s amp made. The Joyo pedal takes the low-gain channel into an alternate metal voice. So for $30 my 2-channel amp becomes a 3-channel metal BEEST.

    You don't have to be sorry for your comment, but if you look into my background and who I am and what I have done you will find out that I have done a whole bunch of internationally known progressive metal albums. I do know metal very well and do have the skills, even if this video might not show this.

    I love this pedal. I use it with a solid state amp on the clean channel. I don't mess with the boost unless it's volume is on the lower end. Sounds great for leads and rhythm for Metal. I compared a shit load of pedals and I chose this one. The fact that it only cost $40-50 is just a bonus. I will buy more from Joyo in the future.

      @@BOBANDVEG It just has a typical 1/4" line in/line out. When it's off it doesn't color your signal. Get one. The EQ and the quality of distortion set this pedal apart from anything at this price. Joyo has some other great budget pedals. Between the EQ on the pedal and your amp there is something for everyone.

    The boost is meant to be used with the high ends turned down, my settings that I use is highs and mids at 9 o'clock and low at 3 o'clock with drive about half way, then turn on the boost and set it at around 10 or 11 o'clock and you get a really good modern tone

    I've just bought this pedal from Thomman (I'm in Australia) and for the price, it's fantastisch! Am I a true metal warrior? Not really, but I have my ESP EX-50 and the Joyo Extreme Metal pedal, so I'm on my way to Metal land. BTW, that is the most invigorating, funny, disturbing, but refreshing review I've ever witnessed on CZcams; he even makes reference to his pet ("hello doggy"). See... you don't have to live in Scandinavia, have hair down to your ass, look like a Viking, and play 8 string guitar to love Metal. Remember the 80s hair bands? Now that's Metal. Thanks (I'll call him Gunter) Gunter for a great review. Love your style!

  • @too--late
    @too--late Před 7 lety +2

    This kind of pedal should always be used with maximum gain. The boost function is great, maybe not "functional" (from a "musical" point of view), but that's exactly what is great. It's for extreme metal ! Henning you're too much a musician to understand extreme metal ♫♪. You looking for a beautiful harmony, nice things, perhaps also love ♥. The extreme metal is darkness, brutality and death that carries everything away. There's also poetry in there ... And for this, this rogue boost function is required.

  • @PraiseDog
    @PraiseDog Před 6 lety +1

    Don't think of the boost as a volume boost. It is not crap, it is a great feature. I see the boost volume about the same as when it is not kicked in. EHX calls that control "Top Boost". It changes the tone from bass punch to more treble with clarity. This is a nice versatile pedal, not appreciated as it should be.

It does metal extremely well, BUT....if you play around with the mids & distortion level, you can use it for many other styles as well. It has awesome sustain and the lead tone is great. I've tried it with a Strat & Les Paul. It impressed me more with the Strat....I can't believe the sound I'm getting out of my Neck pickup (single coil)

    As for the TC Electronic Fangs, I decided to order this pedal from Thomann when I saw in this video the misunderstanding on your face when you switched the "boost". If you had judged this sound pleasant and very useful, I would have hesitated. But here, I knew I was holding something great... (That's what she said)
    But I must say that you are finally right. I wonder how the designers of this pedal felt that the "boost" was well adjusted in the state where it is finally (perhaps some kind of sabotage by an unhappy employee).
    This pedal, with its boost on, will be fine for someone wishing to invent a new black metal sound that no one have yet dared to do (for medical reasons). A sound close to an electric saw cutting metal.
    I am still very happy with this pedal which will become a classic for the metal nerds.

    • @EytschPi42
      @EytschPi42  Před 9 lety +1

      no, I don't think so.. even true bypass pedals suck tone. As soon as you have more than just a few pedals you should use s looper to preserve the tone. That way, only the pedals that are being used are actually in the signal chain.

  • @FulcrumsEdge
    @FulcrumsEdge Před 5 lety +2

    It looks and sounds like it's based off of a EHX Metal Muff, the boost is a total give away, tone is extremely similar to the EHX, the boost is NOT useless or crap, it's a high pass filter, and is useful when you play music that is very OD BASS driven. HONESTLY, also... the mid range is definitely meant to be frequency specific, and works for both boost and cut. You would be amazed how many guitar tones come from a high pass and tight mid's being used boosted. It's very sub-genre specific, and it shows you're not much into that stuff cause your ear clearly doesn't enjoy the tones coming from either of those features. No offense intended, just a fact, lol. Pretty typical of people are not much into underground black metal, raw punk, and some death metal, especially of the old school Swedish persuasion. The HM2 is a perfect example of an ultimate pedal used for frequency specific mid boost pedals, and what it's most well known for lol.

      @EytschPi42  Před 9 lety

      PrettyBoyFloydTV Actually, I just re-.did it as a QUICKY and used a new pedal... sounds the same... ALL the pedals that clone the EH Metal Muff have this high end boost, but it simply boost the very top end it doesn't sound great... a mid boost would make more sense or just a volume boost... I really don't understand what that boost is supposed to be used for.

    • @PrettyBoyFloydTV
      @PrettyBoyFloydTV Před 9 lety +1

      EytschPi42 Oh great, I'll check that out. I'm actually one of those morons that uses guitar pedals for bass, and it works as a hi-frequency range extender. Whenever I'm playing with a guitarist, and they go into a solo, the high boost makes my sound almost like a guitar tuned an octave down. If I can time it right and mimic the notes, it sounds like an octave down pedal. But more often it just makes my bass line cut through the guitars volume while still retaining the low end. Perhaps it was made with bassists in mind, seeing as a lot of bassists do use the Muff distortions.

    Is it my amp? Cause this pedal sounds like ass . Got the PE100 and it sounds a lot cleaner on a small basic amp (Frontman 10G)

    I bought this pedal and CANNOT get a decent sound out of it. I don't know if it's because of my amp, or because I bought one that's defective, but it REALLY sounds like crap. I have to say that it's the worst distortion pedal I've ever bought

    Great demo, but the background music playing while you're talking is distracting.
