This Pedal is seriously "Pedal to the Metal". It does it's job as an aggressive metal well, but somehow it still did not win my heart like the other pedals did. The Boost function seems useless. On the other hand, if you need a metal sound and only have thirty bucks, this is the one for you !!!

I am pretty sure it is great for Thrash Metal. Don't hollow out the mids too much, kinda leave it in the middle and you should have a very aggressive sound. If you use the Boost just a bit it might also give you what you need. For the price you really cannot go wrong.
If Judas Priest needs another lead singer this guy is my top choice to replace
Ralf Scheepers from Primal Fear is a spot on Rob Halford.
😂😂
BTW, Henning, I do that 'Metal' screech at home and it drives my wife crazy. I do it everywhere; in the shower, in bed when I'm reading, when I'm practicing (guitar obviously), at work, when I'm shopping, at dinner, on the toilet (it helps) and anywhere else where I deem appropriate.... 'Metallllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!' Can you hear me screeching all the way from Australia?
Luis del Valle yes I can here you
Here in the States, they thought it was an atmospheric phenomenon.
Best $30 pedal I ever bought. Sounds way better than a lot of distortion devices that cost much more. We shall see if it breaks down and craps out but the case is very solid (unlike Behringer pedals). The boost is high-mid presence contour that works great for some amps. I am playing my solid state Ampeg VH140C, a 2-channel amp with spring reverb, stereo chorus and the most metal distortion of any 90s amp made. The Joyo pedal takes the low-gain channel into an alternate metal voice. So for $30 my 2-channel amp becomes a 3-channel metal BEEST.
You don't have to be sorry for your comment, but if you look into my background and who I am and what I have done you will find out that I have done a whole bunch of internationally known progressive metal albums. I do know metal very well and do have the skills, even if this video might not show this.
I look in your background I see no chick, #disappointment
@@Alfredo78666 Maybe, because you have too much corona?
I love this pedal. I use it with a solid state amp on the clean channel. I don't mess with the boost unless it's volume is on the lower end. Sounds great for leads and rhythm for Metal. I compared a shit load of pedals and I chose this one. The fact that it only cost $40-50 is just a bonus. I will buy more from Joyo in the future.
Can it be used as a preamp?
@@BOBANDVEG It just has a typical 1/4" line in/line out. When it's off it doesn't color your signal. Get one. The EQ and the quality of distortion set this pedal apart from anything at this price. Joyo has some other great budget pedals. Between the EQ on the pedal and your amp there is something for everyone.
The boost is meant to be used with the high ends turned down, my settings that I use is highs and mids at 9 o'clock and low at 3 o'clock with drive about half way, then turn on the boost and set it at around 10 or 11 o'clock and you get a really good modern tone
You are right, the boost is very good but the high knob must be set almost to zero !
I use the boost to sound like soad on 2002 (in live concerts)
Should be a great pedal for any pantera fan ;)
Ikr? It directly reminded me of dime's tone on VDOP
I've just bought this pedal from Thomman (I'm in Australia) and for the price, it's fantastisch! Am I a true metal warrior? Not really, but I have my ESP EX-50 and the Joyo Extreme Metal pedal, so I'm on my way to Metal land. BTW, that is the most invigorating, funny, disturbing, but refreshing review I've ever witnessed on CZcams; he even makes reference to his pet ("hello doggy"). See... you don't have to live in Scandinavia, have hair down to your ass, look like a Viking, and play 8 string guitar to love Metal. Remember the 80s hair bands? Now that's Metal. Thanks (I'll call him Gunter) Gunter for a great review. Love your style!
Great job man, best reviews channel on CZcams! Now we rarely buy anything without checking your reviews first.
I have this pedal. It's pretty versatile, sounds a bit nasty at full gain but dial it way the hell down to two or three it actually produces a warm, fat drive. For the 25 bucks I paid for it, a steal. Thank you China
This kind of pedal should always be used with maximum gain. The boost function is great, maybe not "functional" (from a "musical" point of view), but that's exactly what is great. It's for extreme metal ! Henning you're too much a musician to understand extreme metal ♫♪. You looking for a beautiful harmony, nice things, perhaps also love ♥. The extreme metal is darkness, brutality and death that carries everything away. There's also poetry in there ... And for this, this rogue boost function is required.
I lost it when he said METÀAAAALLLLL 😂😂
I just bought it, my first pedal, I'm into thrash and some new metal and the good stuff about the gain of this little monster is that if you setup it correclty you can navigate thru these sub genres with ease
Oh...it's just as good with the Les Paul, but I can get a good heavy sound with just about any pedal on the LP. And this pedal actually cleans up when you back the volume off on your guitar! Once you find the sweet spot, you will love it.
Don't think of the boost as a volume boost. It is not crap, it is a great feature. I see the boost volume about the same as when it is not kicked in. EHX calls that control "Top Boost". It changes the tone from bass punch to more treble with clarity. This is a nice versatile pedal, not appreciated as it should be.
Damn, this pedal sounds great for the price!
Well the boost is crap but other than that it's great.
@ Nasty McNastypants - I'm not into Metal much these days, but I got myself the Pocket Metal to try out anyway. This is the best pedal I have ever used. It does metal extremely well, BUT....if you play around with the mids & distortion level, you can use it for many other styles as well. It has awesome sustain and the lead tone is great. I've tried it with a Strat & Les Paul. It impressed me more with the Strat....I can't believe the sound I'm getting out of my Neck pickup (single coil)
Love the "MEETTTTAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLL" 😂
i was thinking to buy this and i saw this vid ...now i'm sure i'll buy this ! :D this was great video / playing, lot of fun too ! :)
I think so, YES !
Can you do a comparison between this pedal and the JF-04 High Gain Distortion?
Dude you are hella funny! A true metalhead guitar nerd love it!
"That function.. really not functional.." .. laughing my fucking ass off.. :D
As for the TC Electronic Fangs, I decided to order this pedal from Thomann when I saw in this video the misunderstanding on your face when you switched the "boost". If you had judged this sound pleasant and very useful, I would have hesitated. But here, I knew I was holding something great... (That's what she said)
But I must say that you are finally right. I wonder how the designers of this pedal felt that the "boost" was well adjusted in the state where it is finally (perhaps some kind of sabotage by an unhappy employee).
This pedal, with its boost on, will be fine for someone wishing to invent a new black metal sound that no one have yet dared to do (for medical reasons). A sound close to an electric saw cutting metal.
I am still very happy with this pedal which will become a classic for the metal nerds.
I like it Everytime you say "METAL"".rock on
I have bought this about two years ago and my experience with it was shit. It is very gainy and kinda thin. It also doesnt go well with clean amps such as fenders. But I find this pedal perfect as a boost pedal because it only sounds good when setting its drive below half.
Hey Eytsch thanks for making this sound so damn good, now i gotta buy one..I now own Hot Plexi, American(direct rec.), Pocket Metal...this one seems better than Joyo high gain so i gotta get it!!
Nope Aaron, it really doesn't... might Sound Heavy by itself, but in context the Joyo Pocket Metal is the best of the bunch!
oh my god i realise you are the brain of frameshift! i love this group i love the labrie era:)!
Intro is marvellous !
Good question, I think the pedal has to be engaged for the boost to work and in that case you can only use it with the distortion...
Hey Henning, super stoked with your reviews of the Joyo pedals, big fan myself! Got a Vintage Phase and Dyna Compressor based off your reviews and have zero regrets! Was just wondering what your opinion of this pedal not being true bypass? Would it suck tone from my rig?
no, I don't think so.. even true bypass pedals suck tone. As soon as you have more than just a few pedals you should use s looper to preserve the tone. That way, only the pedals that are being used are actually in the signal chain.
Thanks dude! If I'm guilty of tone suction already then this thing won't hurt any more than the rest! Thanks again for the reviews, you're the best man, entertaining and informative.
I consider that the Boost isnt as good as other, but if you try to find the correct EQ you able to do great thingts with it.
new fan here! love your reviews and demos! btw, have you tried any moen pedals?
Hi... welcome.... no, I have not tried any Moen pedals.... as soon as they send me some I will check them out !
nice! I recently just bought a Moen violent metal. and,YES I do hope they send you one so everyone could hear it. ROCK ON bro!
8:30 LMAO. Hilarious an informative, subbed
Hey, i would like to ask you..for a Metallica "Load" album tone (yeah, closest as possible..) would it be better this joyo Extreme, Joyo California or Joyo Us Dream?. I´ve got a Les Paul Studio and a Marshall Valvestate..thanx in advance!
Hey dude! Great demo as always!! Which one do you prefer between this and a metal zone? And what other distortion pedal would you recommend based on this kind of sounds? Thanks!
is this good for nu metal
yep, should do nu-metal well
ALL THE GAINS, NO MIDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD ! LOVE YOUR VID.
With the boost you can play the solos, this level rises db
I have a metal muff with top boost by ehx.. it has the exact same setting like joyo extreme metal which i think the cheapest pedal that has the exact same setting with metalmuff eith topboost.. i am very satisfy with metalmuff.. the boost is amazingly great..
That was the reason why i wanted to get the extreme metal.. but still curious with joyo.. should get one of it i think.. but if u really want for a lifetime..go for metalmuff..
It looks and sounds like it's based off of a EHX Metal Muff, the boost is a total give away, tone is extremely similar to the EHX, the boost is NOT useless or crap, it's a high pass filter, and is useful when you play music that is very OD BASS driven. HONESTLY, also... the mid range is definitely meant to be frequency specific, and works for both boost and cut. You would be amazed how many guitar tones come from a high pass and tight mid's being used boosted. It's very sub-genre specific, and it shows you're not much into that stuff cause your ear clearly doesn't enjoy the tones coming from either of those features. No offense intended, just a fact, lol. Pretty typical of people are not much into underground black metal, raw punk, and some death metal, especially of the old school Swedish persuasion. The HM2 is a perfect example of an ultimate pedal used for frequency specific mid boost pedals, and what it's most well known for lol.
Cannot agree more! Works splendid for Thrash, Black metal, and even djent! The boost is actually useful too for much aggressive tones
@@bootyliciousfeetenjoyer aggressive is what this pedal is allll about.
@SentToTheGulag true that! I guess people says it's shit cuz they haven't seen the darker side of metal. I think they're too "musical".
I know this works for tons of sub-genres of metal. But does it also work on other genres? Like punk rock? Ramones, The Offspring and Misfits for example. 🤔
Definitely. I love it and use it into a Caline Englishman set with low gain. This makes for a more neutral mid tone. Can do all sorts of genres. I prefer Joyo Highgain distortion as it is smoother and more versatile.
i cant get enough of you man lol you're awesome and this review was great. you're mad funny keep it up.
Turn the high down and press in the boost and turn it up it should make a difference
Amazing demo and sound and especially the doom riffs !
What's the name of song where demoing with full band in the middle of video ?
Cheers !
for a second i thought you had a goat running around there... :D
You can get some nice black metal sounds with this
is a good idea use it as a EQ and boost ? ...on my acoustic guitar hahaha
So what's the difference between HB and Joyo?
The country where it is being sold.
It's great do have a demo of the joyo high gain distortion?
MetaL!!!!!! Awesome dude! Awesome pedal reviews!
So, this harley benton pedal is the same than joyo JF-17? excuseme, I really don't know the realtion among these commercial names ...
I think you can replace some electronic components of the power estage or eq section from that pedal.. And maybe get better tone..
Hey Eytsch, I feel like you should redo this demo. On mine the boost boosts the high end frequencies, it doesn't just add hiss, and the mid is supposed to be a regular eq, not a scoop. It's supposed to work just like the high and low. I think you got a broken pedal.
PrettyBoyFloydTV Actually, I just re-.did it as a QUICKY and used a new pedal... sounds the same... ALL the pedals that clone the EH Metal Muff have this high end boost, but it simply boost the very top end it doesn't sound great... a mid boost would make more sense or just a volume boost... I really don't understand what that boost is supposed to be used for.
EytschPi42 Oh great, I'll check that out. I'm actually one of those morons that uses guitar pedals for bass, and it works as a hi-frequency range extender. Whenever I'm playing with a guitarist, and they go into a solo, the high boost makes my sound almost like a guitar tuned an octave down. If I can time it right and mimic the notes, it sounds like an octave down pedal. But more often it just makes my bass line cut through the guitars volume while still retaining the low end. Perhaps it was made with bassists in mind, seeing as a lot of bassists do use the Muff distortions.
We can thank Korn, Dream Theater and Meshuggah for pushing the 7/8 string craze. I just use drop tune pedal works for me.
I think , BOOST knob is for single coil pickup guitar
"Metaaaall!!" After hearing it, I am now afraid to turn off the lights at night..
I have the behring heavy metal pedal, is it still worth getting this joyo extreme metal?
man, your review rocks asses! like your style! NO DOG, NO BALLING, WE ARE DOING METOOOOOOOL! :-d
thanX) that does sound terrible when the boost is turn on , and no clean tone fuzz when the bypass is on??? really??? wow .
thank you again good video .
Do this pedal can be mild in gain just like an overdrive? Or is it only for metal gain (high gain)?
I laughed until I got tired of this video. Very good and fun. About the pedal I have it and it's one of my favorites for ... METAAAAAAAAL ...
thinking that "boost" might be the "Top Boost" thing from the EHx Metal Muff. I think it is a stupid idea.
otherwise, it's good
Is this anything for a Dark Throne-like harsh and primitive Black Metal sound?
I think the Booster is out of point because you need to redo the sound-setting but could just be me
oh... wrong video.... check out the 9 Metal Pedal shootout video... you can hear them in comparison... Pocket Metal all the way!
did you put distortion on your amp, and then you add distortion again with that pedal? maybe that is the reason why the boost sound like shit (sorry if my english is bad)
Think this Pedals have nice quality, I just bought this and a boost clean pedal (the boost is perfect) I really love the sound of this pedal , and ye the boost button usless , even mine seams to make some more volume up.
Pls can you suggest me one good eavy Distortion for some Hard-Rock ? could be nice the JOYO JF - 03 ?
Seems like the the boost changes the mids.. introduces more?
Where can I get the song you are playing with?
Can the boost be used as a clean gain boost or can it only be used in conjunction with the distortion?
Hab mich an manchen stellen extrem amüsiert.. sehr geiles Video :D
Is it?..does it change something?
I really want to know if this pedal is great for black metal cuz I'm really trying to get the Norwegian black metal sound like Euronymous
Definitely. I have the joyo and it’s the same pedal. Perfect for black metal.
METAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL!!!!!!!! JAJAJAJAJAJAJ XD
Gosh, the stupid prick have some fans around.
Which one is the best for you this Joyo Extreme Metal or the Metal Muff????
Excelente disrtor , buenos controles, muy efectivos. y de fácil manejo. el boost no sirve, pero con la distorsión basta . Vale bien su precio.Excelente rapor calidady precio. Me compro 10, jajajaja
Can you use just the boost it self without using the bypass!
How good this pedal is for thrash metal?
Can someone please tell me which pedal is better, the Joyo pocket metal or the joyo extreme metal?
What's better, the JF17 Extreme Metal, JF35 Pocket Metal or JF04 High Gain Metal?
What’s the best Harley Benton pedal to get a Randy Rhoads kind of tone?
The boost is only good for cfh by Pantera
Is it my amp? Cause this pedal sounds like ass . Got the PE100 and it sounds a lot cleaner on a small basic amp (Frontman 10G)
You think you’re sooo cool with your 8 strings, don’t you have a bass player? 😂😂😂😂😂 love it, hilarious
I bought this pedal and CANNOT get a decent sound out of it. I don't know if it's because of my amp, or because I bought one that's defective, but it REALLY sounds like crap. I have to say that it's the worst distortion pedal I've ever bought
Is this in the effects loop or straight in front?
Youd be a great announcer at some concentration camp man
is the pocket metal better than this?
Hey was that Michael Schenker "pettin" your dog? If so tell him I said hello!
Metaaaaaaal :P
What makes the Harley Benton model any better it's just getting his name stamped on it and charging more
Switch out the high with the boost
true with that boost
I wanted to know one thing i currently use boss metal core pedal
I want an amp stimulator because when i play it through a direct pa system the sound cracks...
Will this pedal work in that case??
Great demo, but the background music playing while you're talking is distracting.
What was that song at the end
