I think it was a thing of realization. He was after his ass up until the first lizard encounter on the bridge. Afterwards he knew there were bigger problems out there and there were tons of people like that kid he just saved that could use his help. He learned not to be so selfish with his abilities. I also think it was like a “uncle ben wouldn’t have wanted this” typa thing.

Something I very much love about Andrew’s Peter is the way they portray him as an outcast. They don’t need to give him the classic nerd look or give him hobbies that are cliche among geek characters. He’s a conventionally attractive skater with a bubbly personality. But Andrew does such a good job at playing him as this awkward, atypical, in-his-own-head sort of kid that I believe him in that role. Just the way he delivers dialogue is very “tell don’t show”. He’s the most likely to be seen as popular and cool out of the other movie portrayals, but he’s the Spider-Man that feels the most socially awkward.
Also, it’s important to note that he’s only ever a smooth talker with confidence when he’s Spider-Man.

HOT TAKE: The Amazing Spider-Man could have been the best Spider-Man movie of all time if the Lizard wasn't the main villain and the stuff with Peter's parent's was less of a focus.
If they wanted a darker, more grounded take, they could have used a slightly more grounded villain, like Shocker or Kraven. Having the Lizard be the villain flies in the face of it being a more grounded take in the first place. It's like if in Batman Begins right after the scene at the docks where he takes down Falcone and his men, Killer Croc shows up and he's the main bad guy for the rest of the movie.
They could have kept in the stuff with Peter's parents if they removed the conspiracy aspect and just used it to further cement Peter's abandonment issues.
The rest of the movie is pretty much perfect.
Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

    • @arinhossain2100
      @arinhossain2100 Před rokem +7

That's like about 2 problem for TASM 1. Other then that it's flawless (8/10).
At least Lizard is still good villain because his story and everything (except his head design) stayed true to the comics.
For the villain part you mentioned, I agree that they could have used other villains too like Kraven the Hunter, Shocker, Venom, or Carnage. I don't know other villains that are perfect for dark and gritty environment but still.
For Peter's parents storyline, I was thinking maybe they should have completed that storyline in the first one instead of showing in it in the 2nd one.

For me, the Amazing Spider-Man is my favorite of all the movies. Peter’s abandonment issues are so real, Ben and May are real people with real issues, Peter and Gwen have incredible chemistry, the CGI still holds up… There’s just so much I love about that movie. But yeah, Kurt was butchered by editing and deleted scenes. That’s the worst part of this movie, the Sony interference. I have a feeling that Gwen ending was one of the things that Sony wanted in the movie because they wanted to keep Emma Stone on board for the sequel. However, you can feel the love that most of these filmmakers had for the character, and the real human emotion brought into the movie that makes everyone so interesting. But I feel like we lose a lot of that thanks to them wanting to set up a rival MCU after failing to get TASM into the MCU because they offered the deal too late.
Speaking of which, TASM2 is the definition of style over substance. The movie is visually stunning, holding up better than most MCU movies. The cinematography, impressive CGI and character designs all blend together so seamlessly(besides the awful goblin design) that you might forget you’re watching a movie… Well, you would have if it was a better movie. Max Dillon gets stuck in the villain trope sadly established by Carrey’s Riddler, one that only really worked for that character, and has to suffer being a weird, unfinished character. Green Goblin was forced in FAR too early, and the Goblin subplot leads to the “Parker Blood” reveal that spits in the face of the idea that anyone can wear the mask. The parents are functionally USELESS in this movie, having served their purpose in the first film, so their reintroduction feels like bloat. There’s a reason that when you look up the promotional release of the first ten minutes on CZcams, it’s only the Peter sequence. There’s so much awfulness in this movie, but there are two scenes that NAIL everything about this character: the graduation chase scene, and the Spider-Man montage after Peter and Gwen break up. Both of these scenes deeply understand the character and carry the rest of the movie as something beautiful, something that should have been the center of the movie. And there are multiple little moments that are brilliant even in the bad parts as well. The Times Square slo-mo scene, the scene where Peter and Gwen work together to fix his webshooters so he can fight Electro, the part where Peter sees Gwen and just walks into the street like an idiot, giving one of the best comedic moments in a Spider-Man movie… It’s just so weird. It’s like a third of the movie is a gourmet steak, and the rest is that same steak if it had been left in the fridge for a week, rotting, before finally being cooked. Sony interference did a number on this movie, and I honestly wonder what this story could have been like if they had just stayed away. Sadly, we’ll never know, and despite the fan demand for Garfield to come back, it’s highly unlikely we’ll ever see him in the suit again.
To wrap this up, I think that Andrew is the key to what makes this movie so great. He loved this character, far more than any actor I’ve heard portray Spidey, and you can feel that love. Even in No Way Home, he’s still in love with this character and wants to do more with it, being the scene-stealer most of the time and having three of the best moments in the film for me: Saving MJ, saying hi to Max in the middle of the fight, and, with Tobey, meeting Peter on the roof of the school to explain that heartbreak and loss is part of the job description. He’s fantastic, to the point that I’ll watch anything I can that has Andrew in it outside of Spider-Man because he carries that same energy to all of his work.
My rating for both of these movies
TASM: 8/10. A flawed movie with such a compelling core that I can’t ever drop it below that score.
TASM2: 5/10. A visually stunning movie with the best score in any Spider-Man movie and some of the best scenes in the character’s history, bogged down by studio intervention, a bloated, diced up plot, and a seemingly failed attempt to build a cinematic universe(unless they reveal Venom takes place in the TASM universe).

The fact that during the two movies you can see Peter maturing up is very interesting.

When I first saw the film I kinda missed the significance of Peter's realisation at the Stacey's Dinner because the scene was followed by a flirty scene between him and Gwen. I feel if he went from the dinner scene...then went outside and Peter seemed distracted as Gwen tried to talk to him and then when the sirens go off he sees Captain Stacey getting ready to do his duty that's when he realises that he has to do the same. Instead the tone shifts to being cute and about their relationship and then flips back to serious.
...then to further confuse things when Peter has saved the people on the bridge from Lizard he then tells Gwen it's his responsibility to deal with Connors because he created him...which kinda undercuts the idea that he's learning of his "moral obligation to do good things" as he is directly related to the creation of the Lizard so it feels, although he is doing the right thing, once again he's cleaning up a personal mess rather than being purely altruistic. Just slightly undercuts the message for me

This is one of the hottest takes ever said but I prefer tasm 2 over the first one. I enjoyed the villains a lot besides the designs. I thought Harry's story was done pretty well, mostly due to Andrew and Danes chemistry because the actual story, while it wasn't bad, it was very basic. I dont think I need to explain Peter and Gwens storyline being so good. Electro was a compelling vilain with good motives and I liked everything they did with him other than his design although I get why they made him just a blue guy. I hate the criticism that tasm peter is too cool, peter is a tall lanky dude (yes hes hot) but he also skates around school, keeps to himself, wears the weird hoodie with the thumbs out, and like goes to an abandoned shipping yards or something to skate. He's a weird dude and thats why hes alone. This peter doesn't even have a friend like all the other peters. Like psm said its not trying to be fully comic accurate. Second note Tom is literally the most unbelievable Peter Parker. Youre telling me his jacked and cut out of his mind peter parker isnt getting bitches at his nerdy ass school? Peter in the home trilogy sticks out for the complete opposite reason he should. Hes a fuckn chad at a tech high school surrounded by nerdy kids that he should be like.

I do have some bias towards the TASM movies or at least the first one because I saw the first one in cinemas and it was like the coolest thing I saw as a 11 year old. So this movie to me is nostalgic by those reasons alone. While I will defend the first movie for what it is, I don't mind the second one I have a soft spot for it but I'm fine with people hating on it as they have there reasons to.
I feel like overall these movies could have been more but likely got screwed by executive meddling.

My favourite scene from the tasm movies is the time square sequence because it deals with escalation, suspense, has a dope soundtrack, Spider-Man looks his best, and I like how realistic Peter is acting in that scene, trying to appeal to Max by actually remebering that he rescued him earlier. I appreciated that Peter wasn’t be an asshole and was only trying to stop the situation getting worse. He was acting responsibly and realistically.

curt conners ended up being some weirdo that wants to turn a bunch of people into lizards in the final film.

Coming back to this after having seen the movies in theatres with a mature take on them and all the emotional bits hits harder and more effectively. Amazing Spider-Man is a great movie with heart in the right places. The second isn’t as easy to see but you can feel the same effort put in despite the meddling. They may not have been perfect retellings but they’re definitely solid
