Great job John! She fired up quickly! Hope all is good, take care my bro!!!
Nice to get an easy call once in awhile, double pole contactors are the way to go IMO also. keep the vids coming John.
Awesome John, keep that ol boy running just a little while longer.
Charles
Good job John !! Glad you're staying busy. Take care, Brett
Some units use a small amount of power to trickle through the run wining in the compressor for a crankcase heater. When in doubt always change it out with the same. Carrier was big on this year's ago. The wiring diagram will tell all. Not every case is like that though. Just a friendly FYI. Great video!
This is true. If you want to carry 2 poles only, you could just use a jumper. Good point about the CCH.
***** that's the thing...There may NOT be an actual crankcase heater. The manufacturer designed a small amount of current to pass through the run wiring of the compressor to provide just enough heat to prevent refrigerant migration to the crankcase when it is colder than the rest of the system. Most manufacturers now use a dedicated heater though...In which you can run it 100% if needed.
***** you are welcome. I have ran across a few and they have always been a carrier or carrier knock off product. You can usually tell by tracing the wiring diagram....If it's still on the unit. :/ talyn875 needs to do a video on it!
I bet they use crankcase heaters more now because that must not produce hardly any heat at all.
Justin Mikola talyn875 AFAIK The only units that use trickle Heat is much older units? Mostly Trane and GE. They have a completed circuit from l1 to l2 thru one run capacitor in off cycle. There is a misnomer that a single pole contactor does create some trickle current but it can't as there is no completed circuit. I have seen carrier put their heater across the single contacts so heater will only be on during off cycle.
John you have the magic touch !!!
us students thank you nice to see your videos again
Nice video John, it's always nice to get an easy fix. Keep up the good work.
Ray
Good work John, hope business keeps rolling.
As an HVAC apprentice I have a question about how the line wires are connected to L-1 and L-2 on the contactor (about 3min 20sec in the video). Is this method recommended or do you prefer the way the line wires are held in place on the new contactor? Thank you for taking the time to post your videos. I think alot of us new guys learn a bunch from the journeymen out there. Thanks again and God Bless....
It doesn't get easier than that, good job John
John if you were there a couple of weeks ago why didn't you notice the burned out contactor then, it could have been replaced at that time and saved your customer the cost of another service call just wondering, Our A.C. service tech will change out the contactor if it's been a while regardless if it looks bad or not. They are rather inexpensive and easy to replace. Just wondering again???
Take Care and Have a Great Year.
So if I was going from a single pole with shunt to a double pole on a Amana/Goodman ASX14 unit can I wire the double pole exactly like the original? I assume I don't have a trickle charge for the compressor or dedicated heater?
At 0:53 - 0:56....are all those wires coming thru a panel hole with NO grommet?...and at 0:58....is that start capacitor mounted upside down, such that when the unit begins to fail....it'll fail even FASTER as the fluid leaks out faster? Some weird stuff going on here.
Hey John enjoyed the video
Nice job, I like the way you took the time to tie up those wires. I know all Techs would not do that. My contactor is going on 13 years its original Rudd straight cool only 2 1/2 ton. What do you think change it ? I am getting 208 on both sides. It is slightly pitted. But over all don't look that bad. Again great video I have been watching you er videos for a long time. First comment
Good video
John, Good Job
Great video, Thanks for sharing
Thanks for sharing John!
Youre not showing how to change the contacter. I need to know how to hook up the wires
which side of the contactor is the common side and run side on top side
there is no top or bottom the live wires go in wire side the wires that need power go to the other side the left and right of your contactors are your 24 volts
Looking good nice easy fix
My old contactor is labeled L3 L1 T3 T1 and my new one is labeled L1 L2 T1 T2 how do I know what wires to put where
I need some help with my home AC unit. I have changed the magnetic contactor and the capacitor and it worked for a week but it stop working the fan on the ac is not spinning and hearing a clicking at the start only. Can someone please help.
Nice video
Can you show HOW to replace it?
My contactor was visibly burnt. I replaced it. It worked great for a day. Then it stopped working with same symptoms (wont start). Any ideas anybody?
look like they may need a service and preventative maintenance contract
thanks for the video GREAT JOB JOHN
interesting stuff.
I know it's tedious but I'd like to see more videos from you man even I'm posting check out my stuff and let me know what you think lol! ;)
I have no idea why you would post this ……..this is in no way informative about anything
I appreciate you trying for sure , but come on …..
Perfectly useless
