One of my favorite bars gets skipped over by anyone who doesn't know this particular Māori proverb or our word for sweet potato; kūmara.
He says
"I was told that the kūmara don't gotta tell 'em about his own sweetness"
Which is a reference to the proverb (whakataukī)
"Kāore te kūmara e kōrero mō tōna ake reka"
Which means "The sweet potato doesn't say how sweet it is" Meaning that there's no need to brag about yourself. Your character and skills will show themselves and reflect who you are. Be humble.
