    Oh quick note as well, the mill matchup was not vs a typical mill list! I stumbled on some UW Mill lists after editing, they are basically the same as UB. My opponent was on some control/mill rogue list. Sorry for the misinfo!

    I'm so stoked someone is running Lantern. I could probably throw it together, still have cards from the list from old school Affinity and EDH that I could throw together. Might have to jam it

    It's nice to see more content from a competent Lantern pilot. The explanation was quite nice too, hopefully it can help educate folks about how the deck operates.

    This deck is awesome, rhystic studies made a great difference in lantern scene now
    I love this stax strategy, used to play tons of matches with fog tron.

      Rhystic Studies gave me the push to try the list out once and for all. I was eyeballing Lantern off-and-on last time I played Modern regularly in 2016-2019, but the Mox Opals priced me out each time. I managed to get in when Sagas were $30 each, so the list didn't run me for a lot of money! Minus the Sagas, the list is generally very budget-friendly, at least compared to most Tier lists right now. Glad you enjoyed seeing the deck again!

      @@crppledizzle9374 They're tough honestly. taplands hurt a lot to draw naturally, and even just 1 is going to show up a lot in your natural draws. there might be a universe where they're okay in a slower meta, but i'd say current meta is too fast for them

    • @entuo

      My next recordings should have audio outputs split on separate tracks, so I should be able to adjust the volume of in-game sounds better in the future. I think the compressor I've been adding on my voice bumps up the in-game noises higher than what I set them to in the raw recording -- hopefully splitting up the tracks gives me some better control. You'll have to let me know if things are better in the next video!
      Glad you liked the video, thanks for stopping by!

    R1g1 you slammed bridge right away but they could have blood moon when you tapped out. They had 0 threats in play so you had the option to sit on a bridge till they put threats into play while holding up assassin trophy

    • @entuo
      @entuo  Před měsícem

      I suppose Blood Moon would've been something to consider vs an opponent whose deck I don't recognize, especially when they have a heavy-basic manabase. Let's dig into that a bit!
      I do have a basic Swamp in play already, and my draw on turn 3 is a Verdant Catacombs. I think if I was worried about Blood Moon, I would want to play Catacombs and fetch the Forest. That way, I have colored mana access, and I can Trophy regardless. If I wanted to turn the Gardens back online, I could Trophy their Blood Moon later, but I wouldn't have to spend that resource yet. I was pretty confident my opponent wasn't going to have a large amount of removal for Bridge (most Eldrazi packages are relying on All is Dust / Devourer of Destiny for removal right now), so I was happy running out one Bridge when I already had a backup copy in hand.
      All this being said, turns out they don't run Blood Moon. They run a lot of Sol-Lands too, so I don't expect them in other lists either. I think I would rather have the Catacombs in hand as a shuffle effect in the event I draw a Lantern -- that way I have an extra look at a top card. Still a good consideration you're making though for an unfamiliar deck in game one! A lot of those cards scream "Ponza", so I can see where you're coming from!

    • @bridges1432
      @bridges1432 Před měsícem +1

      @entuo all good points. Going back and watching seeing they put out basic waste into talisman makes me still a bit leary with the amount of ponza I've seen running around. After the second waste it shows you are pretty clear of a blood moon and after the surgical you have perfect information

    Am i missing something?
    Whats the wincon?
    Hoping your opponent decks themselves?

    • @entuo
      @entuo  Před 29 dny +1

      Over time, you can make it so that your opponents mill more cards than you do. The Codex Shredder in particular only makes one player mill. Once you reach a game state where you have a strong lock (let's say, Lantern + Bridge + 3 Mill Rocks, that's usually a strong lock), you can mill your opponent on end step every turn. If I have 3 mill rocks all targeting the opponent every turn, they're going through their library much quicker than I am, and will deck themselves long before I deck myself.
      There can be complications with this, though. If the opponent sticks a Pithing Needle and names Codex Shredder, and I have no way of removing it, or if they use Surgical Extraction on it, then the only mill rocks left in the deck affect each player equally. If they end up with more cards in library than me, and manage to have a larger library the whole time, and I have no way of beating them with Saga tokens or milling them, then I'll deck myself. These corner cases are pretty rare though.
      I think the most common problem I come across with a pure mill win condition is playing vs Eldrazi Breach. Since they run 4 Emrakul's, you need to find ways to exile all 4 or else they shuffle their entire graveyard back into library. You can't let the opponent draw the Emrakul, either, since they can just discard it to hand size later and trigger the shuffle that way. You can still solve this with your own Surgicals or by using Pyxis on Emrakuls, but it can be problematic sometimes if you're not careful.

    Am I missing something m3g2? They have ring protection, you have no outs, they concede 😵‍💫

    • @entuo
      @entuo  Před měsícem

      Opponent forgot about their own deck size in game 2. At the start of the turn they had 9 cards in library, but they drew 5 cards in that turn. With 2 mill rocks, I can mill them twice with my Codex Shredders in response to the protection trigger, them mill them twice again on their upkeep. This is enough to make them deck themselves (barely o.O)
      They would have won if they just decided to not draw with their One Rings, they just weren't paying attention! Stole a win off that one for sure.
      I did notice they converted to a more mill-focused UW plain in the 5-0 dumps in the last few days, seems they managed to spike a league after this recording! Once again, I salute ChipzNGuac for fighting the good mill fight and managing a 5-0!

    • @entuo
      @entuo  Před 29 dny

      @@toast_recon I forgot you can do that xD. Thankfully, Ashiok exiles their graveyard each activation, so they can't reach threshold to use the coliseum. Otherwise that might've worked, though! If they can manage to get 7 cards in yard in a single turn with coliseum + blue mana then that could have worked!
