@@Mikeschmidt61 Dear Mike, happy to know you survived the Vietnam War. You can be proud to be a Marine, like your predecessors at Bois Belleau, Iwo Jima and Hué. You are part of the American History. Once a Marine, always a Marine. Best memories from France.

Nicolas Richard I was 16 when I went in, we had 72 in our platoon and graduated 29, so we are an exclusive club with a rich heritage. Never given, always earned, and because it's so hard to become a Marine is the reason we are Marines until we die. HONOR, COURAGE, and COMMITMENT are more than words, they are a code that hopefully I have lived by since graduating boot camp.

During the Evacuation of Saigon April 1975 Marines from 1st Bn 9th Marine Regiment & The Mayaguez Incident aka Battle of Koh Tang Island Cambodia May 1975, Marines from 2nd Battalion 9th Marine Regiment; both of these 2 operations the military lost over 40 Marines, Navy and Airmen. Most of the people that was lost were born in 1953 to 1957. Yes to young for the Vietnam War but old enough to go into combat. I know these numbers are nothing compared to KIAs in 1969. Their 130mm guns on the DMZ could fire further and faster and were very accurate compared to our 105’s and the Army 175’s at Camp Carroll. When the transition from the M14 happened they basically gave our soldiers and Marines single shot muzzle loaders with the early M16. The cartridges would get stuck in the chamber after one or two rounds. Then you needed a cleaning rod to punch it out from the barrel. They didn’t have enough cleaning kits so they were issued to groups of two or three to share.

The Vietnam War was so pointless
X years later Vietnam is one of the US's closest allies in the region.
Vietnam is a fking socialist democracy now. Allows private businesses, some freedom of religion, has a strong economy, open to tourists
And Communism was relegated to just a bunch of underfunded rebel/bandit cells fighting for nothing
But you can say that the war focused all the efforts for Communism support on Nam thus turning the others broke.
    Still. What a pointless war.
    Amazing soundtrack though
