Making a Pair of Wood Lures

  • I’ve been working on the river again the last 6 months but I’m back home now and back to making lures. My first project was this pair of crankbaits I made for my managers from where I was working. Made from a huge chunk of Osage Orange (Hedge) I found washed up on the river bank at our facility.
    Also I didn’t mention in the video, neither of these were weighed or tested because they were not being made to fish with.
    Anyway it feels a little rough getting back to shooting videos again and I’m getting use to the focus on this new phone but hope you enjoy the video. More to come.

    Yup, HEEEEEE’S BAAAAACK, and it’s great to see! Love the way you add sarcastic humour to your builds. I’ve been watching lure videos for years now and yours still teach me something every time. Thanks for the long anticipated return video, it was well worth the wait! 👍🏻🎣🇨🇦

    Nice work man, my brother did the same thing on one of his lures with grain burning, I don't know what wood he used but contrast is quite good with black and white(ish) stripes. What are you using to sign your lures? That looks like 0.1mm pen maybe?

      I think it was a .1 actually. Pigma micron.

    Honest Trey, I have wondered if all was well. Missed ya!
    How's that electric chainsaw been treating you? I have considered getting one for occasional use, nothing heavy duty.
    Osage Orange is a denser wood than what I normally use. It sure has a beautiful grain, perfect without any paint. It looks like they didn't get any belly weight, probably because the wood is so heavy.
    Those lures are going to be treasured!

      Yeah alls been good, been working a day job for a while on the river so I haven’t had time to make any lures or. Ideas.
      The electric saw is pretty handy. Definitely best for light work but as long as you keep the blade sharp it’s works well.
      I forgot to mention in the video I didn’t add weight because they are just going to be display lures and I didn’t want to mess up the wood just to add weight when they weren’t going to be fished with.

      @@TreysArt I made 45 lures as ornaments for Christmas trees to give to family members a few years ago and didn't add any weight to them. That way they wouldn't weigh down the branches. LOL
      Weight or no weight, I didn't think those lures would have seen water. With the company logo, I knew they would be keepsakes!

    What is the paper you used to draw your design onto the wood?

    • @TreysArt
      @TreysArt  Před 6 měsíci +1

      It was just transparent stencil paper. The design was drawn on the face down side so when I drew back over it the lead transferred onto the wood. If that makes sense.
