  • Here we go guys, a new upgrade that pretty much anyone can do on their laptop, keep in mind that my laptop is an HP Pavilion x360 14m-cd0001dx so many of the statements on this video are directly related to that laptop. We are adding an M.2 SSD to the laptop to supplement the existing HDD (or SSD like in my case) with a faster hard drive. I mean supplement because with this upgrade you are able to keep your existing hard drive while adding more capacity and overall speed to your laptop.
    Hopefully, this is something that many of you will find useful. Thank you so much for stopping by the channel once more and I’ll leave the links for all the references down here:

    In my case, after BIOS update, laptop didn't restart. It just having charging light on hours (even when it's unplugged) and nothing else. I tried to long press power button but nothing happened. Just charging light on and black screened cold laptop.

    I need some help. I'm looking around to do the same today but some pages say I need a M.2 Data, others say I need an name m.2 and I can see there is a little detailing the SSD keys themselves (the little nothcws in each connector one has two and the other only one).

      So here's the deal, SATA M.2s have two notches while NVME M.2s have only one notch...I also found conflicting information regarding if the M.2 was NVME or M.2 but when I opened my laptop I saw that there was only one notch so, problem solved, it had to be an NVME. I recommend you to open your computer and check the slot to see if it has 1 or 2 plastic dividers.

    Hi there, if the laptop has a HDD and you add an nvme SSD next to it, is that alright or is there a limit to the amount of storage for the laptop?

    • @orlandomireles6374
      @orlandomireles6374  Před rokem +1

      It should be good, there's no limit to the amount of storage you can get on a PC (aside from the actual physical space for the drives)

    can i install the m2 ssd and reinstall windows on it? or do i have to run windows on the original 2.5 hdd? cause the laptop is running slow.

    • @orlandomireles6374
      @orlandomireles6374  Před rokem

      There shouldn't be a a problem, in fact what I did was I installed the M.2, cloned the windows from my 2.5" ssd to the M.2, changed the BIOS so the laptop would boot up from the M.2 and after making sure everything was working fine I formatted the 2.5 ssd and now use it as mass storage with the M.2 being the main disk

    Do you need a heat sink for an ssd?

    • @orlandomireles6374
      @orlandomireles6374  Před 2 lety +1

      So technically speaking you don't, although I've seen the M.2 getting to about 60 C under heavy read and write speeds...you could try to squeeze a low profile heat sink in there but the problem is that there's almost no aire movement in that part of the laptop, another solution could be trying to figure out how big is the gap between the plastic cover and the M.2 and try to fit a thermal pad (if the space is small enough) so some of the heat can be dump directly to the plastic chasis of the laptop, neither are good solution but I haven't had any problems so far.

    Is this a 10th gen or 11th gen processor?

    • @orlandomireles6374
      @orlandomireles6374  Před 3 lety

      Not even, this is an 8th gen CPU, more specifically an Intel i3-8130U
