- 175 Jaar spoorwegen in Nederland toont u de geschiedenis van het spoorwegnet in Nederland aan de hand van oude en nieuwe opnamen. Van de opening van de Oude Lijn in 1839 tot nostalgie die nog steeds terug te vinden is op het huidige spoor.
In 1839 reed de eerste trein over de Oude Lijn van Amsterdam naar Haarlem. U ziet hoe deze lijn zich sinds de opening volop heeft ontwikkeld en welke rol Nederlandse technici, met name Spoorwegpionier en ingenieus ingenieur Frederik Willem Conrad, daarin gespeeld hebben.
Er is ook ruim aandacht voor verdwenen en vervangen facetten bij het spoor: overwegwachters, seinhuizen, mechanische beveiligingen, bruggen zoals de Hembrug, speciale transporten zoals kolen-, bieten- en posttreinen en nog veel meer.
Gelukkig is er ook veel nostalgie bewaard gebleven op het spoor. Zo ziet u bijvoorbeeld beelden van station Valkenburg, het oudste station van Nederland dat nog steeds in gebruik is, en allerlei behouden materieel zoals de Hondekop, de Kameel , de Arend en beroemde treinstellen uit de jaren ’40.

you mean around 11:30? The narrator mentioned it's a Belgian locomotive. It does look similar to the ICM indeed.
No, it is a rebuilt NS Plan D coach, modified for push pull services in the 1960s. ICM emus were put into service in the late 1970s.

Is the DRC still used in Holland?
assuming you mean diesel rail cars, yes they are used, but almost al of them are of modern streamline design( example: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spurt_(Dutch_Railways)). These diesels usually only ride on local lines which have not yet been electrified. There are currently about 13 lines which have not yet been electrified, but the provincial councils and railway companies are looking into hybrid and more modern fully electric systems then the current 1500 kV DC system. also the ICM lookalike was a conversion of a dining car (name: Plan D) to a control car. As to why they put the control stand on the roof of this design, I have no idea. For the ICM it was so that passenger could walk through specially designed walkways which were hidden in the nose when not needed.
