Freddie was having breakfast & the radio was on when "Ice Ice Baby" came on. He thought it was "Under Pressure" starting but then heard Vanilla Ice. He told them to turn it up. He had his attorney on the phone before he was done with his toast. Vanilla Ice arrogantly told the judge he added one strike to the cymbal which make it different. Really? Let's talk about Queen & David rather than Vanilla Ice because the song has an incredible story! This song came about from a from an evening in the Swiss Alps with a lot of wine & cocaine! David found out Queen was nearby at their recording studio & called them up to visit. They were sitting around playing other people's songs when David said "let's just write one". That famous baseline came first which they almost forgot how it went after they went to eat. Freddie & David recorded without hearing the other to see how they each interpreted the song, I believe - thus the two very distinct styles. Freddie added his scatting - David's more serious tone, etc. It was two icons doing what they do best. Production was a hot mess because that's where being two total Divas came out. Each wanted control over the songs production & final sound. Each were used to getting their way. As you can see they worked it out. Iconic song written in just one night. Incredible.
They worked it out, but sadly it caused a rift between the 2 divas. Although they made up many years later, it meant that they never got to perform it "live" together. The Live Aid concert in 1985 was the big chance to do it. I was there at Wembley and prayed they would, but sadly no. I love Queen, but more of a Bowie fan
That makes sense of why this song is slightly disjointed. I thought that it was a deliberate artistic choice, in order to unsettle the listener, a little, to make them leave their comfort zone while taking in the deep lyrics.
That's a great reprisal of what went down. I only wish Queen and Bowie collaborated more over the years. Freddie and David's voices and sound just complement each other so perfectly.

John Deacon came up with the bass riff , and played it through the morning , but once they went to lunch , when they came back he came back from lunch he forgot the riff , and luckily the other band members remembered it so it could be used in the song , but Vanilla Ice took it and used it without permission and was sued for it
If you ONLY know David Bowie from Little Drummer Boy, you've got some major surprises in store when you venture down the Bowie rabbit hole. "Fame", "Space Oddity", "Let's Dance", "Changes", "Young Americans", and on and on.
Freddie's performance is from the Wembley Queen concert, David Bowie performance is from the Freddie Mercury tribute concert that was done after Freddie's death
Vanilla Ice stole Queens baseline for his ice ice baby song. Queen sued him and won. Please react to Queens Live Aid performance 1985. Queen: Full Live Aid Concert. It's over 20 minutes long, but I have watched other reactions to it, and I promise you that you will not lose anyone clicking off during the whole reaction, despite its length. I actually watched this live on TV at a summer birthday sleepover when I was 12 years old. This Live Aid concert was held on July 13, 1985 and there were two concerts held for Live Aid on that same day: one in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA and the other London, England, UK. MTV had VJ hosts and cameras filming on both sides of the pond and they ran the concert live all day and night. MTV would switch from one concert to the other all day long: they'd show an artist playing in Philadelphia, then one in London, then back to Philly, then back to London ... all day, with interviews from the performers in between line-up changes. It was brilliant! This was back when MTV was at it's absolute best. Many bands and performers participated, including Queen. It was a benefit concert in aid of the famine in Ethiopia. Queen performed from Wembley Stadium in London, England and their performance is so legendary (considered the BEST performance of any performer at Live Aid) that a tagline is famously attached to it: "This is the only time in England's history that, for 20 minutes, the country was ruled by an entirely different Queen." * Watch the crowd! Both Freddie and David are amazing singers and songwriters. This song just sort of happened while Queen was recording in Switzerland, where Bowie was living at the time. Bowie stopped in to hang out for a while and they all started drinking and jamming. Somebody suggested they do a song together. John had been working this bass riff and the song formed from there.

David Bowie - to get a real feel for this artist, you need to look at a variety of his songs from different times. He was an artist in the real sense - creative and controversial. For a really pared down song, highly recommended ‘Who Wants to Live Forever’ by Queen. Their Highlander soundtrack made that film, but that song just gives me chills when I hear it.
David and Freddie were friends and they wrote and recorded this track together. Vanilla Ice "stole" and got sued for it ... and had to pay 4 (!) million bucks! :-/ Fun-fact: If he had only ask for permission, than he would got it for free! :)
If he has asked, the owners of the song's copyright; the surviving members of Queen, Mercury's estate and Bowie would've had the option to grant permission for whatever fee they wanted or deny clearance flat out.
Bowie: Fame, Golden Years, Rebel Rebel, Moonage Daydream, Ziggy Stardust, Life on Mars, Lazarus, Let's Dance, Heroes, Space Oddity, Fashion, Ashes to Ashes.......the list goes on.
they did do this song together, thats how they got the video. Freddie and David lived near each other on Montreaux and decided to have a session and see what came of it. Under Pressure did.
the happiness on both of your faces that tells me you how you are so amazed with both great legend of the music world big respect to you both from London
Queen and Bowie were both recording albums in the same studio, ran into each other, exchanged niceties, asked what each other was doing, and so on. At the same time, Queen bassist, John Deacon, was fiddling around with that bassline. They all went out to dinner, came back, and Deacon had forgotten the bassline. The drummer had to remind him. From that bassline, worked out the song, "Under Pressure". So think of it as Queen, feat. David Bowie. The recording process turned into a hassle for both parties and they never worked together again, until.... Vanilla Ice took Deacon's bassline and used it for "Ice Ice Baby", BUT didn't give credit to Queen NOR paid any royalties. He even tried to claim it as his own in interviews! Queen and Bowie sued and easily won. Freddie died soon after and a tribute concert was held a few months after, where Bowie, and Annie Lennox, performed "Under Pressure" with the rest of Queen. This video is a mashup of the studio recording, a concert that Queen performed in 1986, and the tribute concert 6 years later, all edited together seamlessly.
Thanks, kids for this -- in fact, this "video" is an amazing "re-creation" of the original Queen/Freddie/David Bowie - they never performed it together, but so great! The actual performance is Queen on their own - and Roger sings the "Bowie" high parts... (as far as "ice, ice... Van Winkel -- he ripped off the beat and lost in a lawsuit... )
Vanilla Ice stole John Deacon Bass Line and was sued by both Queen and David Bowie, Freddie and David only ever sang it together while recording, in the footage that's Freddie in 1986 at Wembley and David at the same stadium in 1992 for the concert for Freddie after he'd passed away in November 91
There's an old video if you can find it where Vanila Ice is trying to say that they didn't still the beat from Queen, that his is different. Look up vanilla ice-it's not the same.
I agree do Live Aid. They never performed this live, it's clips from Freddie Mercury tribute concert and Queen concert footage. Vanilla Ice was a joke thinking he could get away with that, he got sued and had to add them to credits.
This song was used in Happy Feet Two. It's a pretty cool scene. And We Are the Champions is in it too. And Somebody to Love is in the first Happy Feet.
That bass intro was written by JOHN DEACON, and all the Queen members and Bowie wrote the song. Van Winkle was just a thief. They recorded it together, but lost Freddie before they ever performed it in public. This was put together from separate live performances, for the Freddie Mercury tribute concert.
The people who tell you to “wait until the end” need to chill out - they are forgetting that this is a reaction video. You’re allowed to react. If people want to go and watch the original video uninterrupted, there’s no law stopping them from doing it, unless they live in North Korea.
I have a signed photo of David Bowie & Mick Jagger I’ve got The Rolling Stones guitars signed by them, I’ve got a fender with Paul McCartney & Ringo signatures all with certificates I’m stoked you both saw this!! I never knew you reacted to music it was a time 2 be alive & the words to this song mean so much in any generation this song when listened to the words will ring true even now!
Great reaction, thanks! I would encourage you to watch Queen's live performance of this song at Wembley 1986 and Another One Bites The Dust at the same 1986 Wembley concert. Freddie's interaction with the audience in both of these performances is fun to watch.
Queen and David Bowie sued Vanilla Ice claiming that the bass line in "Ice Ice Baby" was a direct copy of "Under Pressure." Vanilla Ice argued that they weren't the same because he added an extra beat. The court ruled in Queen and Bowie's favor and Vanilla Ice had to pay an undisclosed sum.
@@joa0paul081 Out and out theft, imho. If "most artists" "sample" these days, is that not just proof they have no talent and have to resort to copying the work of genuine artists? The words "Vanilla Ice" and "artist" shouldn't be in the same book, let alone a sentence.
Vanilla Ice could only dream of being this great. He came to a party at my house once and left. He got mad because people didn’t fall all over him. I worked as a jock at a rock station and we had no idea who he was. He was from Highland Park area of Dallas. Rich part of town.
Queen - any of the live concerts. Love of my life from Montreal 1981, or Rock in Rio are especially awesome. Also his World domination badge aka the Live Aid performance. Dame David. The actual clip from the Freddie Mercury tribute concert which is him and Annie Lennox. If you can find it there is footage of Annie and David rehearsing with the rest of Queen and watching approvingly is a certain George Michael. Apart from his music there is his legendary flip from 1983 when he interrogated MTV during an interview. Also a serious interview with the formidable Jeremy Paxman, and while he has yet to grasp its significance, Bowie can see clearly how it will develop.
when john deacon first wrote this riff, they got in the studio with bowie and it was pretty much a contest on who could sing better, freddie or david. great great song

Guys. What you are watching never actually occured. Yes, the 4 members of Queen plus David Bowie, jammed together one afternoon and wrote this song. Sadly they NEVER performed this song together in public. What you are watching was spliced/edited together from two concerts. Queen in 1986 at Wembley and Bowie from the Concert for Freddy after his death in 1991. You can watch both concerts separately. Bowie sung this with Annie Lennox and Annie was edited out and Bowie combined with Queen. Brilliant editing. Cheers.

I remember watching this world 1st concert in Australia we stayed up for over24hrs absolutely loving every single bit of Theo’s concert I think we were 20yrs old at the time nothing compares to true amazing live acts ever! & I saw nirvana, Kizz, AcaDac, Guns n Roses, Pearl Jam😢, Soundgarden,, about every live band you could see in the 80’s90’s2000’s & beyond I guess working at a place of performance counts, the bands I’ve met the things I’ve done never would change a thing
Love it when someone discovers an original beat, which they previous thought was a later artists. That look, that realisation, that appreciation.
Can we give a hand and applause to the person who made this mashup! I loved it from the first time I saw it!
I can really see that you are enjoying the Queen vids. I can see the joy on your face. It fills my heart with joy :)
Fun-fact: If he had only ask for permission, than he would got it for free! :)
But did he in fact stole it from Queen or he just sample like most of the artists nowdays do?
@@joa0paul081
you still have to get permission and i think pay royalties
but he didn't sample he stole because he was claiming it was his composition
If he has asked, the owners of the song's copyright; the surviving members of Queen, Mercury's estate and Bowie would've had the option to grant permission for whatever fee they wanted or deny clearance flat out.
@@joa0paul081 Sampling is legally using a song with the permission of the owner of the publishing rights (not always the original writer or composer).
@@bluebell3720 ahm okay
Bowie: Fame, Golden Years, Rebel Rebel, Moonage Daydream, Ziggy Stardust, Life on Mars, Lazarus, Let's Dance, Heroes, Space Oddity, Fashion, Ashes to Ashes.......the list goes on.
How about reacting to their first hit KILLER QUEEN and WHITE QUEEN, live at the Hammersmih Odeon
Epic performance by two legends!
Facts!!
they did do this song together, thats how they got the video. Freddie and David lived near each other on Montreaux and decided to have a session and see what came of it. Under Pressure did.
"Starman", "The Man That Sold the World", and"Changes" are probably my favorite David Bowie songs. Check em out.
the happiness on both of your faces that tells me you how you are so amazed with both great legend of the music world big respect to you both from London
Under Pressure' is credited to all the members of Queen (Roger Taylor, Freddie Mercury, John Deacon and Brian May), plus David Bowie.
RIP to these two legends 🙏 😢
Thanks, kids for this -- in fact, this "video" is an amazing "re-creation" of the original Queen/Freddie/David Bowie - they never performed it together, but so great! The actual performance is Queen on their own - and Roger sings the "Bowie" high parts... (as far as "ice, ice... Van Winkel -- he ripped off the beat and lost in a lawsuit... )
RIP to two of the greatest voices in rock ❤
Vanilla Ice stole John Deacon Bass Line and was sued by both Queen and David Bowie, Freddie and David only ever sang it together while recording, in the footage that's Freddie in 1986 at Wembley and David at the same stadium in 1992 for the concert for Freddie after he'd passed away in November 91
Yesss 🙌🏻 Beautiful legends ❤️ more more more please. Keep ‘m coming! Much bless darlings and keep up the good work.
There's an old video if you can find it where Vanila Ice is trying to say that they didn't still the beat from Queen, that his is different. Look up vanilla ice-it's not the same.
Queen Freddie Mercury GOAT of the music Industry
Modern Love is a great song to react to from David :)
I agree do Live Aid. They never performed this live, it's clips from Freddie Mercury tribute concert and Queen concert footage. Vanilla Ice was a joke thinking he could get away with that, he got sued and had to add them to credits.
I absolutely loved seeing both of you just smiling away. Freddie just has that effect on people (so does Bowie, tbh).
They're both gone now but thank God we still have their music.
David is superimposed into this performance with Freddie! Hey, we will Rock you and another one bites the dust are really cool.
Freddie bringing the heat and Bowie's backup vocals are sublimely haunting. A timeless work of art
This song was used in Happy Feet Two. It's a pretty cool scene. And We Are the Champions is in it too. And Somebody to Love is in the first Happy Feet.
David Bowie - Young American 🙌❤️
That bass intro was written by JOHN DEACON, and all the Queen members and Bowie wrote the song. Van Winkle was just a thief.
They recorded it together, but lost Freddie before they ever performed it in public. This was put together from separate live performances, for the Freddie Mercury tribute concert.
Please never apologize for your spontaneous responses, that's what makes you you. You don't need a director your both doing great. Peace.
This is a mashup but David Bowie did perform this song with Queen after Freddie Mercury's death. That's how they mashed this video so well.
Your not used to hearing singer singing it’s nice to see people hearing singer
the most infamous and iconic bass intros ever.
Great reaction, thanks! I would encourage you to watch Queen's live performance of this song at Wembley 1986 and Another One Bites The Dust at the same 1986 Wembley concert. Freddie's interaction with the audience in both of these performances is fun to watch.
Back then love mattered now no one cares about it this is why this song makes me cry 😢
How many other singers voices would have got lost with Freddie singing all credit to Bowie
But I have a question tho, did Vanilla Ice really stole the bass line from Queen or he just sampled like most of artists nowdays do?
@@joa0paul081 stole it...no permission given.
@@joa0paul081 Out and out theft, imho. If "most artists" "sample" these days, is that not just proof they have no talent and have to resort to copying the work of genuine artists? The words "Vanilla Ice" and "artist" shouldn't be in the same book, let alone a sentence.
Freddie + Bowie FIRE !
Loving the Queen journey
Vanilla Ice stole that line. Queen sued. Vanilla Ice lost.
Vanilla ice now owns the song.
@@emcsquared8681 Vanilla Ice doesn't own jack.
@@clintonsmith5163 yeah, he does.
“Vanilla Ice famously sampled Queen and David Bowie's "Under Pressure" on his 1989 hit "Ice Ice Baby." Now, Ice, whose real name is Robert Van Winkle, says he owns the complete rights to the song. ... “An arrangement was made whereby the publishing in the song was shared”
@@roverwaters3875 if you can show different I’d love to se it.
@@emcsquared8681 He purchased the publishing rights so technically, yes. He did NOT write the hook. He DID use it without permission and he was sued.
Cheers.
One of my favourite all time songs due to composition, the message and my love for Freddie and David. RIP Gents 😢
these two are a genre on their own...
Hopsin - Ill Mind Of Hopsin 5
Queen released this song in 1981
Vanilla Ice realeased ice ice baby in 1990
He sampled Queen's song without permission and was sued for it
5:59 'insanity laughs under pressure we're cracking' - Best line ever. That's deep.
Screw the haters, you guys do great reactions and I feel you're very respectful to the material.
Queen and Bowie recorded this song together but never got to perform it live due to their schedules.
The greatest thing about Queen is they are their own genre. They don't sound like anyone else and no one else sounds like them. They are the most creative band. You can't go wrong with any of their songs.
Check out “Life On Mars” original video by David Bowie. I enjoyed your reaction to Under Pressure. Always fun to watch people get surprised with hearing popular beats from their original songs 😉 . . , but yeah if you think it’s weird seeing Bowie go from Drummer boy to Under Pressure, well you’re gonna really find Bowie rather interesting when you dig deeper😁
Fuck with Vanilla Ice,that was 1990.This Song came out 1981.
Its like they serve you a fancy Dinner and you take a Big Mac.
Yep, Vanilla grabbed Under Pressure....and now Queen and Bowie are listed as co-writers on Ice Ice Baby, as they should. When Roger sings Bowie's part in concert it is fantastic with Freddie and Adam - saw Q+AL in August 2019.
I think y'all both do a great job. Pause, no pause, questions etc. It's all a part of your reaction videos and It's great. Keep up the good work!
Two unique great artists, that respect the talent of each other, so they wanted to preform together. This is the result.
The video is them but this one is different. Don't apologize for stopping the song you have questions and we're here to fill you in
you are listening to 2 of the greatest Rock icons who ever lived on this earth enjoy
