In Rugby they don't have a concept of "down by contact" so if you just get knocked to the ground you can get up and keep going. You're only tackled if you are held and brought to ground. In that case the ball carrier is still entitled to whatever extra distance that momentum carries them plus however far they can reach. However if the ball carrier is tackled in the field and can't reach the goal they're obligated to let go of the ball.
