Pantera debuted their signature sound with ‘Cowboys From Hell’ and invigorated the metal scene with raucous hits “Walk,” “Cemetery Gates,” “5 Minutes Alone,” among many others. With the 1990 release of their album ‘Cowboys From Hell,’ Pantera created “power groove” and made them the heroes to headbangers everywhere. Their following album ‘Vulgar Display of Power’ was certified double platinum and widely acknowledged as one of metal’s most enduring masterworks. He's a nice guy too. People are just stupid.

One of my oldest, closest friends, for over 40 years just died last week and we buried him today. He was the biggest Pantera fan in the world, no joke. More band paraphernalia than anyone could ever have. He seen them in concert over 20 times, I was there a few times too. He had a life size cutout of Dimebag Darrell in his house. He had all their autographs on so many items. Followed them through to Damageplan, through Dimebag's and Vinnie's death to his own passing. Life long headbangers we are to the end. RIP Steve ...
may that man rest in power, with the legendary brothers of Pantera. \m/_

I've always heard from the metal heads when I was young he is up there with cliff and claypool. Rex is very good. Who ever says he isnt are probably the ones still upset about the real up
Rex was the reason they never needed a second guitar player, truly an epic bass player.
@@stevenbrewer4469 no Dimebag was the reason they didn't need a 2nd guitar player 😉

Pantera: one of the few metal bands to get HEAVIER with every album
So fukin true. And not just any old getting-heavier, redefining heavy as they progressed. And this is one aspect of Pantera that makes me really respect them.
Yep, Pantera is one of the pioneers of groove metal
They are INVENTORS of groove metal
*Pioneers, there were many groove metal bands formed in the early 90s.
Last Crack started like three years before Pantera switched his style, and released a demo in 1987 or 1988, doing progressive groove.
The same with Abhorrent, but they had a more thrashy style.
Now, there are some other bands that "created" the genre, as Machine Head (they have a thrashy sound too, but they are very often considered groove metal), White Zombie, even Meshuggah.
Now, if you might be saying "what? Meshuggah is djent you dumbass", actually, Meshuggah was a technical groove/thrash band, later their started to do shitty djent (because djent sucks!), and they released a demo and an EP in 1989.
Pantera is not the inventor of groove metal but one of the pioneers, there was a couple of bands that started doing groove before the release of "Cowboys from Hell", that is considered by many Pantera fans as the first groove metal album ever. I can't understand Pantera fans, I really like Pantera, I even have two CDs, but I can't understand their fans.
overkill does it everytime. but i will say nobody beats dimebag..... NOBODY
My favorite thing about Pantera is when everyone went mellow, melodic, they went even harder and heavier!
Because they were pretty glam back in the 80s.
Trendkill....
Their look was kinda glam. Their sound wasnt.
@@vadimastprojects8770 The fact they went from that to being so heavy just makes it cooler. Usually bands get softer and softer not the opposite.
You fuckin right they did! I've been listening to them from the beginning and I'll have this shit playing on my death bed!
For me these guys have always been the definition of metal.
A good, valid, sensible comment.
Dime is my idol. His playing is inspiring and absolutely unbelievable, and he is without a doubt the best guitarist of all time. RIP Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul
I like the way people call goat always players from their fauvorite band... You can read same about Slash Zakk Tom Morello Hendricks Buckethead Wes Borland John 5 and way way more....
@@blebleh666nah , Dimebag the 🐐
@@blebleh666honestly I like all of those except for slash. And I don’t know who the last dude is
Best or not, Dimebag was historical moment, and he was a wild horse like Hendrix..

Pantera saved metal. Scott Ian said himself. This fucking band changed my life.
+Cain Stanyer not scott ian everyone even mustin james etc they all agreed to that

@@fredfreddy1502 what
They were born already hitting purberty
That’s fucking funny
Love how they brought the bass out in all these cuts .. Then we get an understanding how important the bass player really is.. Sometimes you think Dimebag is tuned down but it’s the bass right behind him.. They thunder together!!!
Dime bag does tune down though to d and to c and that song of trend kill is in g#..
Also Terry Date is an absolute beast who produced most of Panteras albums except this one probably
22 years
Pantera not having/needing a rhythm guitarist says it all. Most of the heaviest metal bands from this era all had one
Dimeond was both. @@stjon1333

Dimebag was the hendrix of our generation and a gift from the metal gods. The guitar was an extension of his soul. Most people just play their instruments, he became it.

The world isn't the same without the Brothers and this band.
Truth....but thank God they're keeping the memories alive and giving that life to those who need to have it!
Can we acknowledge that Rex Brown never got enough recognition as a member of Pantera?
Underrated but not the best either. Vinnie said a long time ago Rex had the biggest free ride. In their day Dime was the best guitarist, Vinnie the best drummer and Phil the best metal vocalist. That’s very hard to live up to as bassists are pretty overshadowed in general. I wouldn’t say he had a ‘free ride’, though. A very recognizable name to any metal listeners of last 3 decades. What a shame there aren’t musicians and bands like this anymore... the industry is “nurturing the weakest trend”.
Can we recognise you're a poser.
That's what a good bassist does. He stands behind the band while making everyone sound better. Rex was an award winning bassist
YES! He is an amazing bassist.
playing with your drumsticks on fire. How do you get more fucking metal than that?!
You dont
+r tee Or you could watch and listen to a real metal drummer like Mario Duplantier not some turd like Joey Jordison.....
+Heretic Just playing the fucking music and not being a poser. That's more metal.
***** You can't argue with Peart but Jordison is nowhere near Duplantier's skill....
And he's not just fast unless u know shit about drumming.
I listened to this album all throughout high school. This shit still gives me as much energy as it did fifteen years ago.

So much bottled lightning from them days, now everyone wants to sound like each other and aren’t getting into bands with other people. And hey if you can produce a kickass solo record all by yourself, fuck yeah more power to you. Don’t get me wrong, I love the other music videos from pantera. But there’s something so wholesome about this one. Just a bunch of dudes at the top of their careers, jamin together. Just like how they started early on
Probrobly THE BEST Metal band who not only survived that grunge trash period but carried tons of bands with them and saw their way through it. I feel like Lamb Of God picked up that torch and ran with it in a very Goliath way but the songwriting and tone will never match Dime and Vinnie's chemistry. AND like another commentator said... Finnaly a comment that apritiate rex .
Alot of Panteras groove comes from Rex's bass
I agree 100%. And that’s one of MANY reasons I love this band so much. It’s always been them since the beginning (other than Phil). They play in sync with each other that other bands just don’t seem to have. And that’s most likely the reason they wouldn’t just replace Phil. If 1 person was gone. The band was gone. I don’t think they could ever build that kind of chemistry with anybody. But back to Rex. He is probably the most underrated bassist that’s ever played. I personally feel like he’s been robbed because of that. Dude is straight god status on the bass.

There will never be another Pantera. They were untouchable. Thanks for the memories. Cheers!
R.I.P Vinnie (1964 - FOREVER). Your legacy will live forever.

There will never be a metal band with EVERY MEMBER being at the top of their game, as it was with Anselmo & Pantera.
The closest we seen was mastadon, and they can't hold a candle to these guys.
