Finally Revealed! 2025 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport: Is the Blackline Edition Worth It?
In 2024, the regular Atlas SUV got some upgrades, but it still has a raked backlight and no third-row seating. This is the Atlas Cross Sport. Forty cubic feet of cargo space and a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine are its features. For 2024, the Atlas Cross Sport gets a major makeover, and for 2025, it gets a minor update. Introducing the SEL-R Blackline, a new model with a blacked-out exterior, a leather cover for the steering wheel, and aluminum covers for the pedals. Avocado Green and Mountain Lake Blue are two new color choices.
A 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with 269 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque powers both the Atlas Cross Sport and the three-row Atlas. The only engine option boosts power by 34 hp compared to the outgoing inline four-cylinder and torque by 7 pound-feet compared to the outgoing VR6 six-cylinder. Due to the lack of chassis upgrades, the Atlas Cross Sport maintains its competent and benign road manners. From what I can tell, the ride is smooth and the cabin is quite quiet. It also has a respectable towing capacity of 5,000 pounds, which is quite impressive for a unibody crossover. With all-wheel drive, the Atlas Cross Sport's fuel economy drops to 27 mpg on the highway and 20 mpg in the city. Up to 25 mpg can be achieved by a regular three-row Atlas equipped with the same engine and all-wheel drive.
Pricing for the 2025 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport is anticipated to range from $39,000 to $54,000, subject to trim level and optionality. The most cost-effective option is the SE trim level, which comes standard with heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, six USB-C ports, wireless charging, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. A tow hitch and a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds are standard on the SEL with Technology and higher trim levels.
