- Let's examine England's first successful colony in North America: Virginia. Explode with John Smith, be captivated with Pocahontas, and rebel with Nathaniel Bacon.

Ngl, Bacon's rebellion ending with Bacon dying of dysentery is probably the most anticlimactic event in American history.
Dad says we're related to him
Idk those shits were probably hella explosive
@@danielcreasy5 my dad says were not related to anyone important and to shut up about it
@@bigploppa154 oh man then you better shut up
This has all the trappings of a successful channel. Easy to watch, funny and creatively animated.
Getting in early before the subscriber count explodes.
The next oversimplified
@@thethreerspodcast8728 no.. oversimplified is only around 2ce a year. We get like 4 of these gems!!
Sadly it hasn’t. So under appreciated.
Interesting thing about John Smith: begore becoming the leader of Jamestown, he fought as a soldier in the Long Turkish War. He was even knighted by the Prince of Transylvania, Sigismund Bathory (and before you ask he is Elizabeth B's first cousin) and served in the Wallachian Army.
He did have quite a storied history. My husband is named Jon Smith and was born on the 4th of July. People think it’s a bad alias or something when they find out. 😂
Well, at least if you trust the sources (that would be a guy named John Smith). He was.... to say it kindly... a serial liar. He described Pocahontas as a super hot young lady who had the hots for him but in reality she was just a rather young child when he met her and there is plenty of other claims he have that doesn't exactly agree with other sources.
So maybe, but I wouldn't be certain of any of his claims. The Disney Pocahontas movie is pretty close to his version of events.
We do know from other sources that he was a mercenary but the knighted claim and all his bravery he writes about in his book is pretty doubtful.
I like this kind of interpretation. Mr. Terry History brought me here. New Subscriber here.
Glad to have you here.
Mr terry sent me here!
He's got good taste
Since this channel is brand new, let me know which historical topics you'd like to see.
Can you do the French Revolution or Georgia Colony?
How they found and excavated Pompeii
I would like you to do some more info about the 7 years war as it is a not well known war
American revolution or world wars 1 and 2 would be cool to see
El Historia de Nueva Espana
I remember hearing your music presented to my class by my 5th grade history teacher, I enjoy your music and I'm extremely happy to see your content expand into content with a deeper understanding.
Thanks for sticking around with my work. Glad you like the progression.
That neighborly chat between the colonial powers' got my laughing muscles cramping up, especially the Sicillian pope and the French beaver hide crib xD
This is good enough to be an actual show, I love this perfect blend of comedy and education
One: amazing history
Two: amazing humor
Three amazing art style
I love it!!
Thanks for all three
Damn poor don smith
OMG! I just noticed one of the 7 dwarfs in part 1! Nice job
I'm sneaky
"Who's ever heard of a Brittish Empire" sent chills
This is absolutely amazing content!!
Really is the best history channel on CZcams
I love your work so much, I’ve watched and rewatched everything and I still keep coming back!
Keep up the amazing work ✌🏽
2:30 he went to the same exact spot because it was a good hiding place from Spanish naval patrols up the coast from Florida
that skyrim reference hit harder than dropping your phone on your face
Pretty funny, your historical facts were very good! Keep it up!
Mr Terry gave you a shoutout and I love this channel already.
Absolutely love your content and beyond shocked you don’t have 100s of thousands of subscribers
Just watched Mr. Terry's video reaction to this. You've got a new subscriber.
HI MR. BETTS
Hello. How'd you like the video?
Drawn of History
loved it! thanks for making it!
The use of Lacrymosa for The Starving Times is chef’s kiss perfect.
Well England liking tobacco, well Walter Raleigh was one of the first men in England to popularize it, with even a legend about one of Raleigh servants chucking a bucket of water over his head thinking he was on fire when he was really smoking his pipe
"Queen Elizabeth 👸Tudor the first, the Virgin Queen, 👸 Gloriana, and Good Queen Bess?"
Amazing how a small village grew to become the world's strongest country in a mere 400 years
Well, it was a small colony backed by the strongest empire in the world, which as we know seceded and inherited the position from the country it rebelled against. It makes sense to me
England wasnt even an empire when jamestown was established@@oliverkelly9164
@@oliverkelly9164 not the strongest Empire by a long shot. The British Empire would not become most powerful for over 100 more years. England (it was not even "Britian" yet) was relatively weak compared to Spain, France and other colonial powers. Jamestown was after all England's first real Coloney- making it the start of the "British Empire."
How did I only see this video now? Great channel, Hilarious and educational
this is the entertainment i been lookin for
loved it. thank you for helping me homeschool.
No problem. I have one on the pilgrims when you get to it.
"That's not even a tree..." Damn that was good
Well a random CZcams video suggestion was actually worth it, just subscribed 👍
Awesome vid man. It was funny, informative and had really good animations. Glad Mr. terry reacted to your video. Got a new history channel on YT to watch. :D
Mr. Betts I really like your channel.
Thanks. I have a huge video coming out late this week.
War of 1812 would be interesting animated.
I was thinking the same thing
I see four shadows it’s foreshadowing
@@coolioplayz9993 ah ha
Honestly mate if there's any justice you'll get the subscribers and views that your work deserves. You're doing something different and individual in a area that's already got a lot of channels that cover similar topics but in different ways and often similar styles to each other rather than the new direction and style you're doing. Keep at it man.
As you've seen getting mentioned by other channels is a really good way to grow so maybe reach out to some other channels and offer to work with them. Maybe you can offer to do the animation or write the script for a collaborative video or pair of videos. I'd suggest Overly Sarcastic, Jack Rackem, Extra Credits and History House Productions as great places to ask as they use animation, comedy to entertain and teach interesting topics like you and I can see you all working well together in styles and approach.
Keep at man. Honestly it'd be a real loss for CZcams if you were to stop.... And me...
Great video!!!
As a Dutch person; I’m kinda sad about the New York takeover, yet beavers are inferior to spices anyway…
My ancestor Dr John woodson on was one of the first English military/ civilian surgeon in North America... And the first English slave ownnnner in North America... Yea ash some good and some bad
Great intro!
I'd like to see you do videos on the lesser known American wars.
Working on a war of 1812 now
The hat representing the Pope made me cry with laughter.
I love the Applebee's in the background. It's the epitome of who we are now in that realm. 😅
Jamestown Colony
North vs South
damn genuinely a great fist video
Well done. New subscriber, saw a reaction vid on Vlogging Through History. Looking forward to more!
Welcome aboard!
Very good for time limit

No worky no foody would be a pretty good law even now tbh
Turn on closed captions
Good Vídeo
We also whooped John Smiths ass once he came back once-Nathaniel Causey after retreating to Jordan’s Journey outside Jamestown
3 years later... Captions still broken.
Wheres the Massachusetts bay company video? I cant find it when i seatch
Hi from Mr Terry history. :D
'Come on, who's ever heard of a "British" Empire?😂'
*Rules of engagement have changed. Bravo Six going dark.*
Can you fix the captions please?
But but.... HOW DID THE ROW BOAT BLOW UP!?
Anyone else gonna talk about the captions?
France's House is Covered in Thousands of hairy beaver Integuments and the inside contains Bageuttes
Can you please do the civil wars or world war 1 or 2
Was that a reference to Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter at 2:37?!
That colonial garden England was watering grew into a nation more powerful and all of them
Everywhere i go i see him
nice gave it a like 😃👍 (i’m with reese)
This was accurate.
This video is great. The subtitles are completely jacked, though. It looks like some import from an xml document failed, it all looks like encoded data rather than plain text.
PLEASE COME BACK...VA HERE
Who animated these? Do you do it all on ur own??!
Could you by any chance, fix the caption on this video? It's helps with what's going on in the video.
“Oh fart.” *actually farts* 😂😂😂
Can you please do battles in Texas history?
In the past I've done content on Texas. All I usually am told is I don't pronounce anything properly.
Drawn of History aww :( those ppl are just mean.
My teacher said there was a not so nice word high school humor so she skipped it at 4:02 I don’t know 😬 maybe the meant the not so nice word at 5:13
I didn't know Roanoke was literally attempted and failed twice by the same dude.
Pewds being Sweden made my day lol
Can you make a French Revolution video?
I think oversimplified did it better than I could. I do have an idea for something around that time.
Drawn of History ok #oversimplified
Hey somethings wrong with the closed captions
"Hoh please be 18!" LOL
Accurate
Jamestown… not there to start a country but a company.
The captions are broken.. They’re just scrambled letters and numbers for me.. :(
The subtitles are really messed up for me
Not to mention indentured servants were treated like shit
Mr. Betts, I have loved so many of your videos in the past. I like this one. I'd like to offer some well-intentioned criticism if I could.
Lately- the last year or so- I've had to make sure I pre-screen your videos before showing. I probably won't ever show this to my class. "Please be 18", "bugger off you wanker", "sausage party", and "turds" are terms that would get many my kids focused on the wrong things and not the lesson you're trying to give. Yep, I know they say turd all the time, but if I show it in class, I get the heat when parents lose their minds over it. And there's always at least one parent who'd hear about it and get spun up. My kids are middle-schoolers, and maybe not your target audience, but they easily could be included with a few less inclusions like the ones I've listed. I'm not trying to be prudish, but you've been in the classroom, and I'm sure you've fielded emails and calls from parents who make mountains out of molehills, and these days when everyone seems to have an advocate or a lawyer on speed-dial, I'm not taking an unnecessary chances. I know my administrator sure wouldn't.
I love showing your videos, but there are just some I can't anymore. Take it for what it's worth, and I'll delete this if you'd prefer. Just wanted to offer a viewpoint from a fan who has played more of your videos in my class than any other creator on CZcams. (And that includes John Green and Crash Course History.)
I completely understand. Actually, this is why I made this channel. I can make more mature content here. I never meant for the other channel to appeal to a younger audience but it did. This channel gives me more freedom. It's meant to appeal to high school and above, more the regular person interested in history than the 6th grader. Thank you for your honest feedback.
@@DrawnofHistory Thank you- that's a fair point I hadn't considered. I'll stick with your original channel for my kids, but I will personally be enjoying this one. Thanks for replying.
Of course, the surest way to get middle-school'ers to do something is to forbid it. Y'know, "Mr. Betts also has this other CZcams channel, but your parents would absolutely lose their frickin' minds if I were to ever show it here!" Salt to taste.
I agree! I just can't risk showing Mr. Brett for the above reasons
There is a weird problem with the subtitles...
6:04 is this J.J?
Is that JJ at 6:50 -ish?
You got a good eye and a good ear
Can you talk about the founding of Pittsburgh?
Umm 6:04 welp
Actually, they weren't slaves as the slave system most think of only came in with a migration of the Caribbean slave owners. The blacks that came in where indentured servants whose whole work was under contract and when it was up they made free or offered to continue. Most got freedom a few continued to work, and a few of the freed went on to do it themselves.
Pardon me, WHAT is up with the subtitles of this video
Is this an ARG or a critical website error
Mr Terry sent me here! Really liked the video can you please do the space race?
It's on To do list. BTW, make sure to subscribe because the third part comes out next week and Mr. Terry is in a couple scenes.
@@DrawnofHistory when will the next one come out?
Looking like this Thursday.
“Weird flex, but okay.” 🤣
Bacon literally sounds like the cynical historian.
There's a very good reason for that.
@@DrawnofHistory Nice
New vid next week with another history video guest star.
Those dysentery deaths, man.😂
How does a rowboat explode. Was it an attempted assassination?
6:06 is that JJ Muculough
Good ears
When the military humor comes out... "What do I get?, "You get to shut up!".
Well, I am ex-military so it fits.
@@DrawnofHistory I saw. Cracked up at you making fun of your navy pic during that sweet promo you did during one video. Keep up the great work!
