This brings back some memories for sure, too bad they don't say what year this was but i'm gonna have to because i remember when this aired, in fact this is the earliest performace i can remember when dad used to watch Austin City Limits, this has to be 1981 or early '82, but i know i remember for some reason, she used to have that growl in her songs back then, and at the time i didn't know what "hot and sexy" was, i definietly there was something about her back then, and the black guitar with the rose on it, hard to tell with the grainny footage but i think that's what it was, great post, wish the whole show could be posted

The night before this show was recorded, Emmylou and the Hot Band played at the University of Texas Erwin Center in Austin. 1st half of the show she came out wearing the same dress she wore on the cover of her then current Evangeline album. 2nd half of the show she was wearing what she wore on this ACL program. Great show. I didn't get to see her at ACL, but I do remember talk of her playing ACL the night after she played the Erwin Center. Rodney Crowell and the Cherrybombs were the other half hour of that particular Austin City Limits episode.
doe everyone agree that this was from a TV show? the only citation I can find of ELH performing on TV in 1982 was on Glen Campbell's variety show. the still picture accompanying the citation had her wearing different clothes. I also don't think that show would have allowed a 7.5 minute performance. It was pretty commercial. On the other side of that argument, having seen ELH perform dozens of time I do not recall her every playing this medley in concert which leads me to believe that this was a commercially oriented TV show. what do you think?
Very good, but this is exactly the kind of singing she said would have ruined her voice had she kept singing like that, with a growly voice. As in the Hot band (her words). Thanks God she switched so we can still enjoy her singing new songs today, 30 years later.
