    I'm a photographer who takes photos during walks, I don't do much video with it. The advantages of a slightly larger M4/3 camera is that the slightly larger lenses are better balanced, think of the 100-400 10-25 and even the kit lens 12-60, the camera is still small and the lenses even more so compared to the same setup in full frame. The GH7 seems to me to be a great camera for the landscape and nature photographer because of the tilting screen and the better EVF.

    • @overnightdelivery
      @overnightdelivery Před 18 dny +3

      I do way more photography then video but even I'm tempted to go with the GH7 over the G9ii. I use the 10-25 and 50-200mm which are both some of the biggest m43 lenses, so it will probably makes the lenses feel lighter. Also nobody talks about the fact that the screen can flip up without sticking out the side. That is clearly a photography feature. Plus the peace of mind of having a fan, not ever worrying about overheating.

    I really think Panasonic nailed it with the GH7 as they previously did with the GH4, GH5 and GH6. Adding the PDAF, internal ProRes and 32bit float to what the GH6 already offered in terms of features is a BIG WIN. Yes a FF sensor will always get more light and there's going to be always a limitation when compared side by side with a BMCC or FX3. However if Panasonic stops today adding features, focus on power consumption and at least doubles the recording time, they will have probably the best selling camera on the market for years to come.

    • @GrayGhostDog1
      @GrayGhostDog1 Před 18 dny +3

      ... I think the power consumption comes down to the amount of features and data it's processing, I guess. I found that my A7SIII would go through a fresh battery while I was in the middle of setting it up!
      I think this GH7 is among the best hybrid cameras on the market, to date.

  • @artistjoh
    @artistjoh Před 18 dny +16

    The GH7 rocks! It excites me more than any other camera of the last couple of years. Formidable is the perfect description of the new camera. Cannot underestimate how valuable that stabe is, and the float audio is the icing on the cake. I want one.

    • @madfinntech
      @madfinntech Před 7 dny +1

      It's too bad that the Arri log and that audio interface cost almost 1000 bucks on top of whatever that body costs. The value proposition really went downhill when I learned that those kick-ass features are separate purchases.

    • @artistjoh
      @artistjoh Před 7 dny

      @@madfinntech But it does mean that we can buy them one at a time, spreading costs over time. It also means that the only people who need to spend money on the Arri Log are those who already use Arri cameras. For me, I will get the XLR unit but not the Arri Log. XLR units have always been an optional accessory for GH cameras, so that is nothing new. The XLR units have always added extra capabilities to the cameras, so that is not new either.
      It is no different to having to spend the several hundred dollars for a good shotgun mic. There are always extra costs with every video camera on the market.
      What I don't like is that the new XLR unit will not work on older GH cameras. I like the shotgun mic holder (as it frees the hot shoe for other things) on the new device so would like to use it on my GH5 II, but alas that is not to be.

    The body may be big for m43 but it’s the same as the GH6 so convenient that I could re-use my cage. Biggest selling point would be the audio for me too bad that the XLR2 is rather expensive. I’ll stick with m43 for 4reasons: compact lenses, affordable lenses, stabilisation and the audio options (on the GH6+XLR1).

    To obtain a lower depth of field, you do not need the size of the matrix, but a long-focus light lens. I use gh6 in conjunction with voigtlande f0.95 60mm and 17.5mm. Excellent bokeh on both lenses, the depth of field at 60mm with the aperture open is such that one eye is in focus and the other is no longer there. So I recommend buying expensive lenses because it is the optics that draws the picture. The camera captures and saves this picture. Both gh6 and gh7 have all the functions that allow you to fully control the capture and saving of the image that the optics have drawn. Remember, optics come first, buying it, it will last you a lifetime, new cameras come out every 3-5 years, previous models are getting cheaper. Be wise.

      I think MFT can do it all. I have big and small camera setups and can switch lenses between any of them. It is true that MFT needs smaller bodies though. They haven't made one in over 6 years.

    Literally nothing beats micro 4/3s when i can have a 24-70 2.8 (12-35) and a 70-200 2.8 (35-100) in my bag for the same size as a single full frame 24-70 (either dslr or mirrorless). I think that fact is being lost in all this nonsense.

    • @Sj-qm6ec
      @Sj-qm6ec Před 18 dny +7

      the point is to enable the sensor to be able to keep up with the image processor to get all that codec options while still being compact and ergonomically shaped. if not for the internal fan this camera would shut it down itself after recording at least 30 min in 4k 60 fps

    • @shaananwalsh7513
      @shaananwalsh7513 Před 18 dny

      Yes. They should make more compact cameras. Not this model in particular but it would help the company. Unfortunately I don’t think they can afford the r & d for a separate line which is why this camera and the full frame share a lot in common. Just see what Fujifilm does as an example. The x100 series sells because of style not because it is as CAPABLE as other camera.

    • @brianb816
      @brianb816 Před 18 dny +1

      GH series has pretty much always been video focused. For a video camera with those capabilities, plus an internal fan, the GH7 IS a compact camera. Plus as others have noted the lenses are still compact.

    Personally, I think they should release the GH7 X model with a new 10 megapixel sensor that can give a clean image up to 10,000 iso instead of 4000 iso which is the limit of acceptable image on this model. Also some add-on with ND filter that has an electrical ND that connects between the body and the optic. Speed boosters for Dof. Black body like the S5X but glowing red markings on the buttons. More lenses too.

    10:37 The Sony’s picture output is TRANSFORMED from unusable handheld to Gimbal-Like with Active Stabilization, what Sony sometimes calls “BOSS” BalancedOpticalSteadyShot in some of their cameras. I think the InCamera 20% crop to achieve an electronic stabilization, WITH the SensorShift and or Lens Steady Shot create an incredible video platform for hand held full frame video footage. Do you guys remember the video from the RX1? We have come a long way in 12 years.

      @DerbyshireDave Před 18 dny +6

      It isn't.... It's still really poor compared to the Lumix even with the Active mode... and that ignores the fact that the Lumix can also do a digital stabilisation to take it a step further

    Of course Micro Four Thirds is dead. It was dead on arrival. It can do nothing that a phone can't either, but it can do nothing that a crop- or full-frame sensor camera can. It has very niche uses, but for most of us, it's pretty much useless.

    • @blutey
      @blutey Před 16 dny +1

      Micro 4/3 is good for birding since any lens put on it effectively doubles it focal length, not something that happens on a full frame camera. Lenses also tend to be smaller and lighter than full frame.

      I want everything to be in focus so I not a bokeh hunter person but I want a fun camera, Nikon Zf is that and they have a lens that M43 doesn't have it, 28-400mm f4-8, plus I not sure why but I noticed Panasonic M43 photo quality has a rough transition and surface way too contrast look from some youtuber's photos, and for me it make no sense to make your camera smaller when it's still not phone size small and the strangers still going to notice you are holding a camera just as a user you feel like you are less intrusive and the camera is closer to you and what make the differences is actually the weight, my favourite colour is yellow color and both of the brands has it, hence I will get the Zf and that lens plus 14-30mm f4 and maybe a Voigtländer too, just I hope they make a Yellow leather body soon!

    • @alexsystems2001
      @alexsystems2001 Před 17 dny +1

      No, it probably won’t sell because of people like me who had the GH5 for years and waited for years for the GH6 to come out with proper autofocus. I had M4/3 lenses, GH5 batteries, the audio XLR adapter etc. I was all in on M4/3. Then the GH6 came out with the same poor autofocus and worse picture quality and a green saturation to the images and mixed media. Overall the GH6 was worse than the GH5 and the GH6 was bulkier with the fan. So I dumped lumix altogether. It would be very hard for me to go back to M4/3 and re-invest in all the lenses and accessories again. Just not worth it. THAT is why it won’t sell very well. I had nothing against M4/3 I liked that I could have small lenses in my bag and the build quality and IS were top notch but if your video isn’t in focus, nothing else matters, your dynamic range could be amazing, the colors could be perfect but if it’s out of focus, nothing else matters and I think a lot of people left the system and it would take a lot to re-invest in it again.

      Absolut not! Most people see only their own perspective. And yes many people changed to full frame the last years. But most forget, that day bay day and every week or mounts, new video enthusiasts jump into the market.
      And they find the one fits all in one camera now. I think it will be the best selling since the original GH5 if not better.
      Never unsharp, never distorted audio, with prores raw. And you can decide if you need 16:9 or 9:16 just in post.
      And don’t forget the enormous magnet marketing hack to offer the ARRI S log.
      With lenses like Oly 1.2 apertures, the shallow field of depth will be closeup to ff lenses.
