Where did he bring this kata from? We don't have it in Shotokan, it doesn't appear to be done this way in any other video aside from him performing it. Do they they teach it in SKIF?
That is a good question that I don’t have a complete answer for. This is what I do know, Kanazawa started showing this kata as well as a predecessor to Nipaipo (Niju hachi ho) at the same time. He explained he had learned and practiced both forms in his youth and didn’t want them lost. I do know that the older form of Nipaipo is dated from the 30’s. My thoughts are this one probably was also from that timeframe. For a short time, it is documented that Kanazawa trained at the Shudokan with Toyama. Toyama also trained in white crane Kung fu while teaching karate in schools in Taiwan. Perhaps he learned it there, but there isn’t any known documentation of that. I welcome anybody to comment that has further insight in to this beautiful unique crane kata.
That is true! He also did a few crane katas that in an interview he explained that they were katas of his youth. He didn’t want them to be forgotten. There are multiple videos of him teaching this one as well as a few with him demonstrating it to a crowd. My favorite is when he performs the kata then does multiple bunkai with several students.

Kojo ryu. Patrick Mc Carthy zone.
Some shotokan schools teach it but it's kind of a secret thing depending on the school.
@@mr.halloween2344 interesting
exactly my question
Usually Master Kanazawa practiced Shotokan style and this is definitely not Shotokan.

Where are you located? I am teaching this kata at my dojo in Eugene, Oregon. I agree it’s a beauty 😊
